Excellent textbook.......2007-05-10

This is the best text for Cost accounting I have come across in years. It is well organised, well written, the information is clearly presented and it contains a fair amount of detail. The questions range from multiple choice to theory to really long numericals.
Only one quibble - this book is such an old edition it does not contain a number of key topics. If it could just be updated to the 21st century it would beat all others, including Horngren, hollow.

First Wade Cook Book: Info is still relevant.......2002-05-25

Wade Cook gave some basic info to new gold investors. While some of the information is dated, much is still relevant in 2002 with gold getting ready to make a long anticipated run.

After debunking the Y2K concern as a scam by "Chicken Littles" trying to sell stuff, Mr. Cook attempts to fill the pages of his latest book with generic "investment" data that we have all heard before. Subjects such as getting out of debt, paying off your mortgage in half the time, and how to form corporations and trusts have no place in a book entitled Y2K - other than to fill up pages. Furthermore,another 13 pages,(10% of the book) is dedicated to selling his other books and audiotapes. I am compelled to agree with him when he complains about people using the Y2K issue as a means to sell products!

Beware of this infomercial for author's products, services!.......1999-04-12

You'll find precious little step-by-step information on how to invest in gold as a hedge for inflation or devaluation. The author cites many things you can do, but too often winds up inviting you to hire him, especially to setup a Nevada corporation. Instead of technical guidance, I got exhortations to, "... get out of debt.", or "...develop a better relationship with God.". At the end of the preface, the publisher warns that the book is adapted from live seminars and lectures and, "While this style may be hard to follow at times, the free flow of ideas lends energy and vitality to the learning process." What he should have said was that they invested minimal time and effort to churn out this transcription of his ramblings. Spelling appears to be a particular challenge, including multiple spellings of a gold mining company, and this transcription from an interview, on page 80, "...the last name is Stevens, S-T-E-V-E-N-S." If you've found any books that actually provide assistance in joining the "Y2K Gold Rush", please note them in your comments on this one.

great entry into gold investing for the beginner.......1999-04-04

having some concern over the potential fiscal impact of y2k I had been thinking about putting a certain amount of my money into gold. i had no knowledge whatsoever of how to go about learning about gold investing including what to buy, how to buy and where to buy---and what not to buy. after reading mr cooks book i learned enough to comfortably and with some level of intelligence go about making my first purchases of gold...the book clearly and simply states wades views on gold investing and how to go about making that plunge. its easy straigthforward reading with clear examples of the types of gold one should invest in. it gets a little mushy with his views on the "government" side of gold things and is a bit overdone in the final chapters of pushing some of his ways to set up living trusts, corporate accounts etc...all of which were of no interest to me nor probably the average reader buying the book for the purpose of learning about gold and how to invest in it...the book hit the mark big time for me, a novice gold person and i am sure would for other readers who want to learn more about the basics of making your first gold investment---no matter how big or small...would have like to have seen a bit more though in the aea of silver investing, as that too is a hot item for y2k right now---but than again the title is "y2k gold rush", not silver rush...nice job overall and would reccomend novice gold buyers or tire kickers buy it...thanks much.

This book and others in the series have added a new dimension, involving the reader with reproductions of maps and documents from the era. I have been giving the to my dad a gifts and will be looking for the next one to come out.

truely history in your hands.......2005-11-19

This is far more than a book. It is a curriculum and a fun experience. I loved it and I have not even listened to the CD yet. The graphics are beautiful, the text wonderful as well as accurate and interesting. The very best part is the inclusion of some 60 reproductions of documents associated with the war. Operations orders, leaflets, diaries, paper money. and more--much more. Of course most people know about the critical weather decision on June 5th, but I certainly had never seen the weather map for the day and with the book you can not only see it (the weaher map), but also hold (a reproduction of it), but study it and transport yourself back to the briefing room. The overall reproduction quality of the included items is good or better. I wrote a World War II book with the subtitle "history in your hands," but my hat is off to Julian Thompson because he trumped our effort.

But long ago, on Iberian soil, they were the magisters of their people, and the leaven of Mediterranean civilization altogether. Such were the Sephardim, and in Moslem Andalusia they were renowned prime ministers and army commanders, distinguished scientists, belletrists, and religious scholars. In Christian Spain and Provence, their translators ignited Europe's twelfth-century renaissance, their revenue agents funded the economies of Aragon and Castile, and their astronomers and navigators plotted the explorations of Christopher Columbus and Vasco da Gama.

From the late fifteenth century onward, in exile from their Spanish and Portuguese homelands, the Sephardim made their mark as viziers and intimate advisers of Ottoman sultans, as vastly esteemed physicians of Renaissance dukes and popes, and as dynamic importers and exporters in the Dutch maritime traffic. Fantastic introduction to Sephardic History.......2003-06-19

If you are at all interested in the history of the Sephardic people this is the book to get. Sachar takes you on a journey from the plains of Al-andalus to the deserts of the Ottoman Empire, the thriving metropolis of the Dutch, to the modern state of Israel. The book is utterly readable and reads less like a dry history book and more like a novel where the central character is an entire nation. There is relatively little in the way of books about the Sephardic experience, and those that do exist for the most part are stiff and scholarly. Sachar makes it palatable while at the same time showing an incredible breath of knowledge and research that went into this book. BUY IT NOW!

Half a Story.......2000-01-05

The lack of information on Sefaradim in Arab Lands is deplorable. The author perhaps lacks knowledge of these languages to adequately research the matter. His assesment of these people seems to be limited to those today in Israel. What about those that went to Canada,the US, France, Brazil, Venezuela, Argentina?

Not a great book.......2006-06-26

Over two-thirds of this book is summaries on each of the species found on each island. This can get pretty boring if you're not a scientist. A nice part, though, is that there are pictures for each of the species included. But for learning about the islands themselves, you're pretty much confined to the first quarter of the book, where there are brief overviews. Unfortunately, much of the book made me feel like I could have written it more cohesively and eloquently. The book isn't big, but they could've cut alot of the size if the text wasn't almost double-spaced.
