Just scroll down to the "So You Want to" and "Listmania" guides and you will see the name. If this internet junkie spent half as much time marketing and offering a worthwhile product or service, it wouldn't be necessary to hawk overpriced so called self published books which only offer at best generic if not outdated advice. And of course, it wouldn't be necessary to hype over the hill authors like JBQ either.

Mr. Pond is a recognized authority. I and many others have benefitted from his advice. As I see it, there is no place for internet junkies on this website and I have reported this to amazon as well.

Call me old fashioned, but I was brought up on the principle that you get ahead by being of service to other people, not by attacking other people. With that in mind, why does this JBQ shill continue to go from one financial book to another attacking every other financial author and hawking Quinn?

Jonathan Pond has written an excellent book and unlike Quinn, is a recognized authority on investing and personal finance.

I highly recommend this excellent book by Pond. I also recommend the excellent books by Ray Linder, if you want real financial advice and not regurgitated, outmoded advice ala JBQ.

Good review of the big picture of one's financial life.......2001-01-30

I am not a beginner investor, and still, I found in the book some good reminders, answers to some ideas that I was bouncing around and even some things I did not know. It feels a bit awkward to provide a good review after seeing mostly negative ones, but I stand behind my rating. First of all, this is not a book on how to pick a winning stock or how to make a killing on the market. It is about making general decisions about one's financial life, and then waiting for the money to accummulate in the due process. If you set your expectations correctly, the book is useful and enjoyable. Secondly, at no point I felt that I needed any services from the Pond's firm. On the contrary, he gave me some ideas on how to finetune my own handling of my finances. Finally, I believe Jonathan Pond brings a great value in educating potential investors in his PBS appearances and in the book. Even if his ideas are not earth-shattering, they are to the point and delivered with a good sense of humor.

In this sweeping indictment of law and social policy regarding accidents, Richard Gaskins charges that the United States has seriously neglected its responsibility to protect public health, safety, and welfare against the hazards of modern industrial environments. The main reason for this neglect, he claims, is the antiquated view perpetuated by the American legal system: that accidents are essentially legal disputes between private individuals.

Citing the failure of our judicial system to cope with the recent surge in personal injury and "mass toxic torts," he contends that the dimensions of the accident problem could not be handled even by a perfect judicial structure. Highly publicized suits involving accidents resulting from vaccines, asbestos, Agent Orange, nuclear power, toxic wastes, defective or dangerous products, and occupational diseases dramatize the need for a better solution. The occasional million-dollar jury award simply underlines the eccentricities of the legal system, which has been aptly characterized as a form of "lottery."

Unlike earlier treatments of accidents and public policy—including economic approaches to tort law, moral philosophy, and policy reform—Gaskins provides a critical overview of each position and shows how they relate to one another. He then proposes an entirely different national approach to the emerging problems of environmental accidents, based on distinct but coordinated policies for compensation and prevention. The topic of accidents must be expanded to include not just traumatic injuries but also a larger portion of illness and disability. And because these events are so deeply embedded in modern social, technological, and environmental relations, the responsibility for future accident prevention rests with more vigorous programs for public control.

As we are beginning to learn from such problems as acid rain and the "greenhouse effect," a high-technology environment provides great wealth and convenience, but carries an inevitable toll in personal illness, disability, and long-term ecological problems. Drawing from both Christian and Islamic sources, Reconquest and Crusade in Medieval Spain demonstrates that the clash of arms between Christians and Muslims in the Iberian peninsula that began in the early eighth century was transformed into a crusade by the papacy during the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. Successive popes accorded to Christian warriors willing to participate in the peninsular wars against Islam the same crusading benefits offered to those going to the Holy Land. Joseph F. O'Callaghan clearly demonstrates that any study of the history of the crusades must take a broader view of the Mediterranean to include medieval Spain.

Following a chronological overview of crusading in the Iberian peninsula from the late eleventh to the middle of the thirteenth century, O'Callaghan proceeds to the study of warfare, military finance, and the liturgy of reconquest and crusading. He concludes his book with a consideration of the later stages of reconquest and crusade up to and including the fall of Granada in 1492, while noting that the spiritual benefits of crusading bulls were still offered to the Spanish until the Second Vatican Council of 1963.

An "E" ticket ride.......2003-07-10

I was saddened to learn that "A Hitchhiker's Guide to Armageddon" would be the last book in the popular Lost Cities Series by my friend and publisher David Hatcher Childress. (David is the Head Honcho at Adventures Unlimited Press who published my 1998 book "HAARP, The Ultimate Weapon of the
Conspiracy"). I have always been an armchair archeologist (well, at least since the third grade). As such I have repeatedly found vicarious delight in tramping the globe with David in these books. Many reviewers have called him "the Real Indiana Jones" -- which I won't deny, except to point out that, on the rare occasions when he's home, he hangs his Fedora in Illinois.

My favorite thing about this series of books written by David Hatcher Childress is that he is an unaffected, unpretentious writer - which is to say, he writes like he talks. Each book reads like a conversation with David. It is easy to imagine one's self in the World Explorer's Club HQ in Kempton, Illinois, as I was earlier this year, listening to David recount his latest adventure in some exotic location, his voice soft with
understatement, his eyes twinkling at his little jests. I can clearly see him, at several points in the story, getting up and pointing out some artifact on the Club House walls, which are festooned with mementos of member's treks about the globe. "Oh! This," he says, touching a strange black object of iron chains and colored glass, "This is a lantern I picked up in a bazaar in Cairo last month." He achieves the same effect in his books by profusely illustrating them with photos and diagrams, facsimiles of ancient manuscripts, and the like.

In "A Hitchhiker's Guide to Armageddon" David invites you to tag along with him as he sets out on his wildest adventure yet, in search of the Apocalypse and The End Times! The story opens with you waking in your sleeping bag with flies crawling over your face somewhere in a Middle Eastern desert on the road to the Hill of Megiddo, the site of the legendary fortress in northern Israel where Armageddon is prophesied to start. It's a long hitchhike around the world from there; David leading you from one adventure to the next -- from mysterious tunnels running for hundreds, perhaps thousands of miles beneath South America, to ancient cities in the deserts of China, to legends of worlds before our own.

In this last Lost Cities book David really cuts loose. You'll find him musing on the rise and fall of civilizations and the forces that have shaped mankind over the millennia; including wars, invasions and cataclysms. In his comfortable, at ease before a roaring campfire style, David discusses such unsettling subjects as ancient wars of the past -- including evidence for
ancient atomic wars -- and relates that dim past with the present, and the much prophesied apocalyptic future.

Like a good roller coaster "A Hitchhiker's Guide to Armageddon" is a fun and scary ride. When I was a child all the rides at Disneyland required tickets, and the "E" ticket rides were the best. "A Hitchhiker's Guide to Armageddon" is definitely an "E" ticket ride!

Pulls out all the stops.......2001-12-14

Steamshovel Press ally Childress does an off-the-wall finale to his "Lost Cities" series, which documents his picaresque adventures around the world. Previous "Lost Cities" books have been geared toward specific world locations, like North Africa, Asia, North and Central America, etc. This one takes on "Armageddon," although it begins at the Megiddo fortress, site of several great battles mentioned in the Bible and where legend has it the battle of Armageddon will begin. The most interesting chapter is entitled "Lawyers, Guns and Money", detailing Childress' legal adventures, including those shared with Steamshovel's Kenn Thomas. Thomas and Childress were taken to court by the former roommate of David Ferrie, Lee Harvey Oswald's albino pilot pal.
