We used this book as our main text for a graudate level Bioremediation Course. I personally found the book very well structured and easy to understand. The appendix has a wealth of info as well. GREAT BOOK!!!

Best bioremediation resource........1999-04-08

I use Cookson all the time in bioremediation. The best section is the Appendix with nutrient demand calculations for any organic compound. This is the "If you can only afford one book" book.

Since then, society has become more interested in the environmental impacts of solid waste treatment and disposal, and how biological processes are used to minimize these impacts. Republican Propaganda.......2007-09-28

This novel gets my "Razzz!" of the year award. I see all of the 5 star reviews and can only explain them by supposing that the people reading Flynn's books are looking for this particular sort of nonsense.
The hero is a HERO and a one of those bully boys for the President that take care of business that can't be left to those pinkos in Congress. If you have a loose sense of reality, and are among the 29% who still give Bush a positive approval rating (perhaps a redundant statement), this is the book for you. If not give it a miss and try some Lee Child, or the new novel "Volk's Game".

Mitch Rapp Series.......2007-09-11

Always a good read when you can follow an intriguing character through several novels. The Mitch Rapp series by Vince Flynn is the best I have read since Ludlum's early days.

Enjoyed this book so much I went and bought all the Mitch Rapp series novels. Really have enjoyed going through them from the start. About to start Executive Power. I highly recommend this book and author. Do yourself a favor though and start with Transfer of Power.

Pushing all the right buttons.......2007-07-18

This is my first Mitch Rapp novel but it won[t be my last. A great story about the classic rogue CIA agent, but rogue for the good guys. And the book serves up rough justice on an assortment of bad characters, from imam apostles of hate, to inside-the-beltway paper-pushers, to amoral terrorist enablers. SPOILER ALERT. I mean, when you have the protagonist go to Saudi Arabia, strap a bomb vest on the evildoer's son, then blow up the son and the bad guy while flipping off a security camera, there isn't really anything more to do to satisfy the bloodlust of the reading audience, myself included. I only worry about one thing, which is that I share many of the geopolitical attitudes of the former East German bad guy. I hope Flynn isn't trying to tell me something.

consent to kill is one amazing book. from the beginning to the end it never slows down. i only stopped reading to work or sleep.

Although she was over 40 when she decided to have a child, she and her partner Helen had prayed for one at the Church of St. Clare in Assisi, and in fact all across Tuscany and Umbria, as if the churches of Manhattan were further from God, or it was harder to hear prayer over the traffic. The book is beautifully written, and shares with the reader some of the emotion and considerations one has when becoming a mother. I'm a fan of Maso already, but appreciate this thoughtful portrayal of the conflicting emotions and sensations of pregnancy. When she speaks of the wonder of seeing her daughter for the first time, it reminds us all how precious and awe worthy that moment truly is.

What does a journal of a writer's pregnancy have for a male reader? Plenty, at least for this one. I read the book in one evening and came away thinking how lucky the child Rose is to have this beautiful letter from her mother. Portions of this book made me sad. Maso writes: "I think of my mother often these days. That she did not have a mother to talk with, to console her, to reassure her as she went through her pregnancies." I remembered my own mother whose mother died when my mother was twelve, just entering puberty. I cannot fathom her loss. But I do understand all too well Maso's remembered grief over the death of her beloved friend Gary from AIDS. "That I had walked at 4 a.m., most terrible hour of the day, of the night, in utter fear and dread, in utter sorrow, scarcely breathing, to kiss my dead friend good-bye. . . The worst possible thing had already happened, so what else was there to fear?" Too many of us said too many unnecessary goodbyes in that first onslaught of AIDS deaths in part because of a government that did not care about those of us who were different. More Maso: "Why shouldn't the old models, which are working with less and less success, be challenged--the world reimagined? Heterosexual privilege and power--and all its attendant rigmarole. Such a system, if it were to be taken seriously, would have precluded me from having a child. Luckily I have never taken it even the least bit seriously. But I have been outside of everything from the beginning--except the system of love." Passages like this one make this book wonderful. Besides the sorrow, there is so much joy, so much hope, so much love here.

As always, Maso paints with words. She has created a beautiful book, from the title to the last sentence with the metaphor of Rose pointing a finger "upward toward the heavens, like the infant Christ, in the renaissance paintings." This book will not disappoint you.
