Ensuring that you've got the right candidate for any position is an art. Mr. Cohen does a fantastic job of educating us to the nuances of this art and if you're in the biz, you should read it. My only gripe - too pricey.

Fish lung is quite ancient.......2000-11-27

Although this book is a detailed survey and synthesis of air-breathing fishes, it is clearly written, and provides introductory background information on the subject. As is pointed out several times, while air-breathing fishes are often considered as the fishes which evolved the ability to breathe in the air, and then invaded the land to evolve into the land vertebrates, this is not entirely correct. The fish lung evolved in the ancestor to both the ray-finned fishes and the lobe-finned fishes, many millions of years prior to transition to land. In the Upper Devonian one of many different fishes with lungs, a group belonging the lobe-finned fishes, became amphibious and eventually evolved into the tetrapods. While the fish lung was conserved and exists in the modern lungfish, in the bulk of fishes, such as modern teleosts, the fish lung evolved into a non-respiratory gas bladder, used largely for buoyancy control. Nonetheless, for more than three hundred different species of modern freshwater, shallow fishes, air breathing is a valuable mechanism to cope with hypoxic water conditions, and was conserved or re-evolved.

Good information, bad style.......2003-05-13

The style of this author's work was very jumpy. One time it would be talking about one thing and jump to another subject very quickly. He also did not explain certain terms used until later on, which forces you to go back and find where he had used the same term. He provides good information, but it is hard to absorb a lot of it because of his style.

An excellent study guide for understsanding the basic text........2000-03-30

The study guide helps in the process of understanding the narrative of the main text. The multiple choice answers gives a correct explanation for each of the five answers. The guide has a summary for each chapter with an outline of the principle learning objectives of the chapter, a summary, study outline, and to check understanding there are review questions, and study-review exercises, issues for essays and discussion, questions on major political ideas, geography, and problems for further investigation. This is a very well structured guide that really helps to deal with the basic text.

For those who want to support a survivor, and you don't know what to say or do, this is an important story to read. It will help you develop compassion and a better understanding of the challenges that survivors must face in the healing process. Truly, this book is a source of inspiration and hope for all. One can only admire how she found the strength and compassion for others to share her story. This story will have a positive effect on you. I know it did me. It changed my life, my attitude, the way I see things. May Aimee, and all other survivors, find the peace and love that they so richly and truly deserve, and may they see themselves as the most beautiful work of art as Our Creator intended them to be.
