      Book Description

Formative evaluation is the systematic testing and revision of instructional materials for the purpose of improvement. Though an essential stage in instructional design, it is badly neglected in the subject literature. This book aims to bridge the gap, taking full account of the context of real-world conditions: limited time and resources, competing demands, and recalcitrant subjects. The book covers all the processes applied to all media, from workshops to hypertext. An essential reference for both novice and experienced instructional designers.

5 out of 5 stars A classic guide for evaluation techniques.......2000-06-28

Dr. Tessmer is a well-recognized expert in the field of instructional design. He has published other books on task analysis in instructional design. In fact, his book on formative evaluations is one of the favorite books used to teach formative evaluation in graduate instructional design courses. Another book to consult on this topic is Formative Evaluation for Educational Technologies by Barbara N. Flagg. A useful book on summative evaluation techniques is Program Evaluation: Alternative Approaches and Practical Guidelines by Blaine R. Worthen and others. The Tessmer and Flagg books are specifically focused on instructional technology products.

Chapter one explains the purpose behind conducting a formative evaluation and what the benefits of such an evaluation are. Chapter two gives fairly detailed information about planning a formative evaluation. The remaining four chapters each describe one of the four typical types of formative evaluation: expert review, one-to-one, small group, and field test.

This book contains a great deal of practical step-by-step information. It is obviously written by someone who has conducted many instructional design reviews and evaluations. The discussion for each of the four evaluation approaches contains a lot of sound advice on associated pitfalls as well as specific procedures. Procedures are well-defined in a step-by-step format. Example forms and questionnaires are provided where appropriate. This book is a "must have" for any instructional designer or evaluator. If you are looking for guidelines on program evaluation, especially summative evaluation, then check out the Worthen book. If you are looking for help with front-end analysis, check out Task Analysis Methods for Instructional Design, by Jonassen, Tessmer, and Hannum.

This is an excellent resource, and I hope that Dr. Tessmer will someday write an updated version of this classic.

              Book Description

Long proven as an analytical tool of uncommon accuracy and utility, particle-induced X-ray emission has enjoyed a solid, if narrow, reputation in the area of chemical analysis. Capable of detecting elemental concentrations down to parts per million, PIXE is now a standard component of the analytical arsenal of the nuclear physics laboratory. Yet in wider avenues of chemical research, PIXE technology is still relatively new and untested.

An inside look at the nuts and bolts of PIXE from specialists who've refined the technique in biomedicine, atmospheric science, geology, and art and archaeology, this comprehensive introduction to PIXE reveals its conceptual foundation and unique methodology as well as its, as yet, enormous untapped potential as a primary analytical tool. Particle-Induced X-Ray Emission Spectrometry (PIXE) offers professionals and students a practical, user-based look at the many facets and current uses of PIXE for multielemental analysis while providing a stimulus for creative, insightful investigation.

Beginning with a brief history of PIXE, the book then introduces the reader to the conceptual basics central to understanding and using PIXE. It details the hardware and methodology that make up PIXE, examining its instrumentation, characteristics of x-ray spectroscopy, standardization of quantitative analysis, the accuracy of PIXE analysis, and its limits of detection. The technique of focusing proton beams to micron dimensions with the nuclear microprobe is thoroughly detailed, with practical advice on what pitfalls to avoid, and clear illustrations of its present uses in biomedicine, materials science, archaeology, and earth science.

The following chapters form a comprehensive catalog of the cutting-edge uses of PIXE in a host of fields, shedding light on the technical specifics unique to each area of research as well as the intrinsic versatility of PIXE. A discussion of biological and medical applications includes a look at sample preparation, micro- and macro-PIXE, the use of PIXE with other methods, and data evaluation. PIXE's role in the compositional analysis of atmospheric aerosols is described, including a look at PIXE's future impact on global climate research. A look at PIXE's applications in the earth sciences contrasts the analysis of bulk material with grains and crystallites and highlights PIXE's practical uses in key areas of geologic research. PIXE's role in art and archaeology includes a fascinating and detailed exposition of its important role in the analysis of gem stones, pottery, paper-like materials, and pigments and paintings.

Concluding with a detailed comparative analysis of PIXE with other current analytical methods, the book then provides a fascinating glimpse into the future prospects of PIXE. A must reference for the professional and novice in search of the basic hardware and methods behind the current state of the science, Particle-Induced X-Ray Emission Spectrometry (PIXE) is a premier guide to exploring the analytical possibilities open to this unique technology.

The authoritative handbook to exploiting the full power and versatility of PIXE— now and in the next century

Respected for its practical accuracy and detection range of parts per million, particle-induced X-ray emission has enjoyed a secure place in the analytical arsenal of the nuclear physics laboratory. Yet, its undeniable analytical potential in other areas of science has scarcely been tapped. This unique reference, from PIXE specialists in biomedicine, atmospheric science, earth science, and art and archaeology, features a user-based look at PIXE's conceptual basics and methodology, with a view toward new and creative analytical work.

Touching on every facet of PIXE technology, from basic instrumentation, specimens, the characteristics of X-ray spectroscopy, standardization of quantitative analysis, to the accuracy of PIXE analysis and its limits of detection, the book offers an unprecedented look at the newer uses of PIXE in such areas as:

Complete with a comparative look contrasting PIXE with more conventional forms of analysis, this important reference is key to grasping the technique's practical specifics and exploiting its full analytical potential.

                Description:
Tracing gold back to its source by means of the elemental composition of objects contributes to the knowledge of the trade routes used in the past. The analysis of a large number of ancient gold objects showed that in most cases only a few elements are useful to characterize the metal. Quantitative analysis of these elements was performed on a set of gold samples with different techniques: inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry in liquid mode and with laser ablation, 12 MeV proton activation analysis, fast neutron activation analysis, particle induced X-ray emission (PIXE) and PIXE induced X-ray fluorescence. The aim of this paper is to present a discussion on the possibilities and limitations of these techniques to characterize gold.

                5 out of 5 stars Brilliant.......2006-03-01

Garnett Williams is my hero. He takes what seems like a complicated topic and makes it seem simple. Williams never assumes anything about the reader's prior understanding of any topic - he patiently and carefully explains what you need to know to understand his point. He reiterates, summarizes and gives examples so that even when you are occaisionally feeling like you might get lost, he reels you right back in.

He includes a glossary and chapter summaries which are very helpful. He also does a great job of refreshing important concepts from prior chapters as they again become relevant.

The layman's challenge in understanding scientific literature, even books written for lay audiences, often results from a minor oversight or assumption on the author's part. One little detail that, upon omission, makes the picture unclear. Williams covers every detail; he was thorough and consistent throughout.

I'd highly recommend this book for anyone trying to understand Chaos Theory or build a better foundation for the understanding of Complexity and other related sciences.

4 out of 5 stars for science or engineering readers.......2005-10-20

With all the noise about chaos and chaotic phenomena, Williams sets out to dispel the confusion. Powerful maths ideas are explained with enough rigour to satisfy most readers. But this is primarily not a maths text. I started reading it thinking it was, and then realised otherwise.

The ideas are not developed in a traditional maths way, with scads of theorems, lemmas and corrolaries. The exposition deliberately mimics what you are likely to see in a physics or engineering book. With a level of detail sufficient for that readership.

The main ideas covered involve fractals. How to define and measure such things as the fractal dimension of a curve or surface. Which leads into attractors and basins of attraction. Finally, the book ties chaos into related ideas from information theory; enriching an understanding of both fields.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent:-- clear explantions .......2005-07-21

This is an extremely well-written book. It is not a "popular science" book, but if you have a few semesters of undergraduate math, you'll be fine.

The author presents the material very clearly and cleanly, with easy examples and useful intuitive metaphors.

I wish all math and science texts were this well-written.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent introducion to chaos theory!.......2005-01-12

I am very happy having chance to read this book. Actually after the Gleicks Chaos I've tried to read "Understanding nonlinear dynamics" but some chapters were too hard to understand for me. After reading "Chaos theory tamed" the previous book was overcame in a meantime cause Williams book builds up a very strong background and is excellent step for further exploration for a non-mathematician.

                thanks to gnutella network:)

                5 out of 5 stars beginner's choice.......2002-07-05

Very easy to read. It is an excellent tool to readers that want a first contact with chaos theory. The math is very simple and even if you are rusty or need some basic theory the book has 7 chapters to reinforced you. If by chance you don't understand this tools then probably chaos theory is not for you.

                Book Description

Queen of the Turtle Derby and Other Southern Phenomena collects a bevy of wise, witty, often hilarious essays by the inimitably charming, staunchly Southern Julia Reed.

In classic Dixie storytelling fashion, Reed wends her way through the South—from politics, religion, and women to weather, pestilence, guns, and what she calls “drinking and other Southern pursuits”—with a rare blend of literary elegance and plainspoken humor.

To hear Reed tell it, the South is another country. She builds an entertaining and persuasive case, using as examples everything from its unfathomable codes of conduct to its disciplined fashion sense. When a bemused Reed once commented on the cross-dressing get-ups of an upstanding community member, her austere grandfather said, “He’s been wearing them lately. Now come on.” A friend of her aunt’s merely said, “I wonder where he gets his shoes. I can’t ever ?nd good-looking shoes in Nashville.”

Southern food, of course, is an entire world apart: gumbo, grits, greens, okra, chess pie, Lady Baltimore cake, and Frito chili pie make memorable appearances in Reed’s stories, which will amuse, delight, and even explain a thing or two to baffed Yankees everywhere.

By now, is there anyone alive who doesn't know Southern men like their guns, while their women like big hair and wear lots of makeup? Judging by this mundane ( the nth Scarlett O'Hara deconstruction), repetitious collection of vignettes (see the German model story), there is truly nothing new under the southern sun. The recipes ( except for the frozen tomato - and who would really serve that?) are familiar. Sure, it is a comfort to know that in the South losing one's mind isn't all that big a deal. It also helps to have housemen, plus maids and cooks to fry up all that great chicken, raise up the kids and allow that steel magnolia (what else?) grandma to keep looking so immaculate while doing years of exhaustive note-taking at the "closed" Belle Meade Country Club - and Julia and friends attend a "racist" boarding school.

We know there really are wonderful cooks and writers to experience in the female South. For fun and style in writing, Florence King was there first. Her books are much more satisfying.

3 out of 5 stars Color me ambivalent.......2005-06-12

There's plenty of laugh-out-loud fodder in this little book of short essays. Nothing is quite as funny as the human condition, observed and considered. At this, the author excells.

What astonished me was that I turned the last page of the book with the realization that race seemed to be completely omitted from the narrative, except where one could infer the presence of a non-white in the kitchen or as a maid. For a book of the 21st century, this is beyond startling to me. A subtitle of "Other (White) Southern Phenomena" might have been more on point.

Consider some of the topics. I know that debutantes, for instance, are not only white girls, but the writing about debs and their parties and their season is about a particular kind of girl whose lineage goes back to before -- well, you know. Think about the ubiquity of queens in places like Mississippi and Alabama and the picture that will come to your mind is not one of diversity. If the author's country club experience includes a racially integrated membership, this certainly would have happened not only in her lifetime, but probably since she has become an adult. But there's no mention of that reality, only of a particular kind of food available to those privileged few -- though I suppose that the included recipes purport to allow us to elevate our experience.

The essay about Scarlett O'Hara goes some distance toward explaining what it is so many white women find so endearing about Scarlett: her pluck, her determination, her sauciness. It overlooks entirely that Scarlett, even in Margaret Mitchell's rarified imagination, did not save herself without a "mammy". I don't get Gone With the Wind and probably never will. What I got from the essay was a point of view blessedly or infuriatingly disconnected from decades of social criticism.

The adage that people who like this sort of thing will probably like this seems quite apt. If you are interested in a funny, fairly unnuanced view of the upper-middle class white experience of a Southern woman born in 1960, here's your book.

5 out of 5 stars So real I kept thinking I was reading about my own life.......2005-02-14

Wow, where do I start? I read this book in one sitting and laughed and cried while I was at it. Being from Arkansas myself, I cannot tell you how many times I have heard, "What would people think?" It was a mantra in my household, particularly when I was trying to do something as outrageous as leaving the house without lipstick. I turned about every other page over to show my husband later, so he would understand me better!

I felt Ms. Reed presented both sides of the South well... the backward (and oft times embarrassing) ways, and the strong traditions and attitudes that make a real (positive) difference in a person's life. I bought it for my mom and her three sisters, as I knew they would laugh as hard as I did at how she nailed so many aspects of Southerners. I've also given this book to several young women, as I think it portrays the strength of Southern women. Ms. Reed finally gave me a way of explaining to blue-state Northerners (where I live now) why I'm so proud of being Southern.

2 out of 5 stars Not so funny..........2005-01-05

Well, having recently finished Celia Rivenbark's 'We're Just Like You Only Prettier', which was very amusing, I figured this book would be similar to that one. The reviews said it was very humorous, and entertaining. I'm sorry, but I do not agree. Julia Reed is a Vogue writer living in New York City, but she's from Mississippi. Now, I felt that at times when describing the silly ways of the southern women's traditions, it was almost like she was making fun of them. But then when she would bash the Yankees (which I happen to be, and am darn proud of it) she was all for her southern heritage.

I love southern books, and I've always had this fascination with the south. I truly hope one day to live there when my husband retires. I have always admired southern women, their traditions, their tight family bonds, and the land itself. Ms. Reed made these women sound ditsy, and shallow, while making us Yankees sound like ignorant, clueless slobs. And she made the area (the south) sound like pure hell to live in.

I gave this 2 stars because there were some interesting facts in it, and some of the events that go on down there were really neat to learn about, and all the food she talked about, sounds delicious! But overall I'd just like to forget this book. It has in no way changed my opinion of southern men and women, or the south itself, and I can only hope they don't look at the Yankees the same way Julia Reed does. If you're looking for a funny book on the 'ways of the south', pick up Ms. Rivenbarks book, that one won't disappoint.

5 out of 5 stars The perfect balance..........2004-08-22

I have been looking for a book like this for some time. If the "GRITS" series took it all a little too seriously for you, then pick up "Queen of the Turtle Derby" (this is a true 'you cant put it down' title). I was delighted to find a fellow southerner/ part-time new orleanian in love with the gulf coast, in love with the south, the food, the people, but with a sense of humor about it (doesnt being a southerner revolve around a sense of humor in the first place?). This is the book for the girl who choose NOT to be a debutante but who still holds a very special place in her heart for those who were. Its the book for those who grew up steeped in this culture, and possibly even rejected it at some point, but who realized later in life how much it is a part of who you are and now accept it with open arms, ready to laugh at any minute. Its incredibly smart, funny, and filled with unforgettable stories about friends, family, guns, booze, debs, food and pagents. Reed is an incredible writer and after enjoying her articles for years, I can only hope that there is a second book on the way. And she is welcome to parade in mobile anytime as the catfish queen!

Congressional politics can be a dirty, rough-and-tumble game, but Washington legend Elizabeth Drew takes us ringside to an unusually fierce fight: the quest for campaign finance reform, spearheaded by maverick senator John McCain.

Little known outside Arizona, McCain gained prominence when he broke from the Republican leadership and still came close to earning his party's nomination for the presidency in 2000. Derailed by George Bush (whose lieutenants, one of Drew's interviewees remarks, fought "the dirtiest, nastiest campaign I've ever seen"), McCain struck out against entrenched, big-money interests, earning plenty of enemies on Capitol Hill and plenty of admirers outside the Beltway. Drew gives us a day-by-day, sometimes hour-by-hour account of McCain's courtly but tough battle, fought with handshakes here, cajoling there, and shrewd calculation everywhere.

Readers wanting to know how things really get done in Washington have a fine guide in Drew, and admirers of McCain will find still more reasons to respect him after watching him in combat. --Gregory McNamee

                    Book Description

The most original, the most sought-after politician in America today, Senator John McCain is at the front of a large movement -- people who are dissatisfied with the way politics is conducted in this country. They are eager for change, and McCain's independence and his vigorous leadership have inspired them.

Granted unique access to the Senator and his closest aides, prizewinning journalist Elizabeth Drew offers a close-up, fascinating account of Senator McCain as he goes about the legislative business of achieving campaign finance reform, his signature issue, building coalitions, and working across party lines. As she shows him in action, McCain is revealed as a shrewd and long-sighted strategist, someone who works with his colleagues far more successfully than his image might suggest. We see this original mind at work and get new insights into his complex personality.

Drew also shows how McCain has broadened his agenda, putting him at a pivotal place in American political life.

In this riveting narrative, replete with McCain's unusual candor, and his unorthodox ways, we see how this war hero turned political leader is showing the public -- and cynical Washington insiders -- that there are other ways to go about working for the public good.

4 out of 5 stars Campaign finance reform and politics........2006-11-21

I have to agree with one of the previous reviewers and say that there is too much admiration in this book for Senator McCain. However after saying that, it took guts to take on the leadership of his party to propose campaign finance reform. McCain did it for the best of reasons--because it will make our republic more democratic, and not beholden (as much) to money. For that reason along, I also have a lot of admiration for the Senator from Arizona.

Even though the author shows her bias, this is a nice story about how the forces of politics works in our nation's capital. Introduction of a key piece of legislation requires diplomacy, conviction, and working with disparite groups. Senator McCain should be congratulated for his efforts in getting this legislation passed.

4 out of 5 stars The man with the plan.......2003-04-15

Always original and always unabashedly candid, John McCain has won over many fans in the realm of politics - as well as his fair share of enemies. Whenever I hear McCain is to appear on Hannity & Colmes or another show, I make it a point to tune in - because I know something provocative - and possibly something controversial, may be said. That's what sets McCain apart from the politically correct force-fed politicians of today - he refuses to rigidly adhere to the strident dogma of party lines. McCain, instead, subscribes to his own agenda - one of morality, reform, and good old-fashioned honesty.

While Elizabeth Drew primarily delineates McCain's co-authored monumental McCain-Feingold Campaign Finance Reform Bill throughout the book, she all the while allows us to delve into the innerworkings of the McCain office and his devoted staff. While others in his own party(and those outside as well) bash him and label him as being bitter towards Bush as to why he didn't back the President's tax cuts, McCain proves that he, above all, is a man of principle, not party line. True American patriots like John McCain are few and far between. As SC Senator Lindsey Graham says, "The thing about John McCain is that if you ever get to be his friend, he'll be with you thick and thin. There ain't a lot of that up here."

2 out of 5 stars A boring book about a compelling political figure.......2003-03-28

I just finished this book, and I really don't see any point at all. This book was just a meandering tale with McCain at the center, shedding no light on him as a private or public figure. I have to point out that I like McCain as a character and I was hoping to learn more about him as a politician. Articles that I have read in magazines lately are much more informative. Read the excerpt and if you are not hooked, do not expect the writing to improve.

4 out of 5 stars A new Don Quixote from the cowboy state.......2003-03-03

John McCain is the new Don Quixote of American politics -- honest, decent, committed and innocent; a political virgin in a pleasure dome where most of the residents are dedicated to pleasing the big spenders.

He's an adopted Arizonan, probably more because of his wife than any other cause, but he's the perfect impratical heir to a long tradition of Arizona idealists who flopped magnificently on their own but set a grand stage for others. Think of Barry Goldwater, or Stu and Mo Udall, as the epitome of political idealism and the graveyard of personal achievement.

In a nation based on the idea that errors of opinion may be safely tolerated where reason is left free to combat them, McCain poses as a champion of restricting open political debate. Ironically, his McCain-Feingold bill to ban soft money in politics contained a neon sign pointing the easy way to simple evasion, allowing "unaffiliated" campaign committees to raise the same money from the same influence peddlers to achieve the same results.

Political limits have been sought for hundreds of years; in America, some of the first limits were ending the free whiskey for one's supporters on election day. Teddy Roosevelt banned corporate donations in 1907, and McCain is merely the latest but surely not the last in a long line of distinguished opponents of political influence peddling.

Drew, an excellent reporter, does a masterful job in detailing the long intrigues that bedevil all legislation. She has a good knowledge of the legislative process, and her this alone her book is a revealing insight into just what goes into the making of our laws.

The sad part, of course, is that McCain's efforts are meaningless. Money pours into politics for one simple reason -- donations buy favorable results for donors. People rarely give to politicians to improve the community; it's a pity McCain didn't learn this as a charter member of the Keating 8. If donors were really interested in good government, they'd buy snowplows for Washington. D.C., rather than giving "soft" or "hard" to politicians.

McCain is a maverick, as gutsy in politics as his grandfather was as an admiral in the Pacific in World War II. Like Goldwater, like his grandfather, John is totally authentic (okay, I've known McCain since his first campaign in 1982). Like Goldwater, his success may not be measured in immediate results; but, look for McCain's name to sound long and true if the campaign to make politics more open, honest, candid and accessible to everyone someday achieves positive results.

This is why Drew is worth reading; granted, she's wrapped up in campaign finance reform, but she touches some undercurrents in modern society that McCain has tapped. Like Don Quixote, McCain's aim is true; unlike Quixote, McCain's efforts may may pay off in another 20 or 30 years with a birth of new honesty in politics.

McCain is a masterful politician, and Drew nicely captures these skills. He is genuinely committed to public service for the public good; before his first campaign, he talked to a wide range of Arizonans about a potential role in state politics. His first thought was to run for the legislature; when a Congressional seat opened up, he seized the opportunity and won a close but significant victory in a state where the largest newspaper open favored conservative Republicans.

Like his grandfather, John McCain III knows how to seize opportunity when it arises. Many politicians are 90 percent show and 10 percent candor; McCain is the opposite, and it is this honesty which Drew so nicely portrays that has made him into yet another national figure from Arizona.

Get personalities out of the equation.

An unvarnished up to date inside look at how our national legislation is formulated, processed, obstructed and finally passed. An vital and compelling insight into the capabilities and limitations of our constitutional process. Critical insight into the legislative process. A forceful argument for communicating with our elected representatives.

Who says so? I'm a student of government: Georgetown; AB [History/Government],1955; Stanford, MA [International Relations],1964; and victim of Congressional ambivalence (POW Hanoi, Vietnam 1967 - 1973].

Incidentally, Senator McCain comes across as a TR reincarnated; but that is not the fault of the author. McCain assumes the responsibilty himself. What you sees is what you gets. Don't fault the messenger; read the book and be a better citizen for the doing so.

The greatly revered Mr. Gladstone-four times the prime minister of Great Britain and the premier moral spokesman of the Victorian era-had another, disquieting side. This book is the first comprehensive study to place Gladstone`s dual character in a sophisticated psychological framework, revealing a man who wrestled with powerful internal conflicts as much as he did with the formidable political and social issues of his time.

This poetry collection of mine has been nearly ten years in the writing. I began when I first met my wife back in August of 1996. I jotted poems down in small pocket pads, notebooks, and computer files. I submitted many of them to editors in hope of publication and delighted when they were accepted. It was an ideal way to share the feelings I had for Sharon with, hopefully, a great deal of readers. Sometime later I started filling small journals with poems and giving them to my wife on the occasions of her birthday, our anniversary, Easter, and Christmas. We would go out to dinner, then come home and I would read to her another book of poems. Finally, putting these Sharon poems together in A Dusting of Star Fall: Love Poems made sense to me. Of all the poems I have written since the 1950s when I first began writing poems, this collection includes my favorites because they are all love-inspired. These poems that speak of my love for Sharon afford me the pleasant opportunity of delivering them from the deepest part of me into the light of written words so you can read them in this book. These poems express my belief that the love Sharon and I share truly does conquer all.

Yes, letters. This is the story of Sal's life for three years in San Francisco told through a series of letters written to his friend, Tim, who has remained in Chicago. We see life in the gay ghettos, in the gay bars, in the workplace, and in many other venues as Sal explores his new home and makes friends and has relationships none of which turn out very well. Roommates are downers too but hey that happens a lot in reallife. If you want some insight into a gay man's life at the end of the 20th century this book will give you great insights.

I began Love, Sal and was unable to put it down. His relationships represent the type of relationships that me and most of my friends have experienced, both [homosexual] or [heterosexual]--the push and pull...the battle of wits and emotions...the struggle....always trying to fight for control of ourselves and/or the other person. I appreciate the very honest way he writes. Thanks Sal for writing this book.

Love Sal is addictive reading. The anecdotes that he presents from his life are beyond merely humorous; they reflect his mature insight and remarkable sense of wit. He doesn't simply bring a smile to your face -- his articulate commentary reflects his point of view on a great variety of subjects that run the gamut from sex to AIDS to what it means to be gay. A must-read. While funny, much of the book has a serious thoughtful angle to it. Yet... he uses humor to get readers to think. He writes about the his experience with such insight, affection, and honesty. I can only hope that there is more to come.

This is a wonderful book written in an amusing, fascinating, way. It's rich with passion and anecdote, and balanced with sharp perspective and fair objectivity. I found it refreshing and inspiring to read about and share this author's journey.

Incredible book on the day in the life of a PGA touring pro. Davis Love III happens to be my favorite as well and I live in LA and this covers a week at the Nissan/LA Open back in 1992. Great book on the mental aspects of the game and what a pro goes through. Also has some interesting insights to the PGA pro community (caddies, practice habits, etc.)
