Effectiveness of Human Resource Measurement.......2000-04-24
This book reveals the HRD Effectiveness Model of measuring Human Resource. But it is outdated as it was written in 1988, as since then Human Resource management has evolved very dramatically. Surely Chalosky & Reinhart would more updated information to present to serious HR practitioners.

A vital examination of the failure of healthcare for gay men.......1999-08-05
Scarce's book resonates deeply as a gay man who consistently finds himself on the short end of the cultural, religious, governmental, and medical sticks. From anal cancer to rectal microbicides to the atypical inclusion of poetry in a medical tome, this book is unique and important. Without Michael Scarce and the work he has uncovered, gay men would have little enlightenment about male on male rape, barebacking, anal pap smears, and the profound discovery of the heterosexual copulative disease. Buy this book. Of course, I haven't bought it yet...I'm still waiting on my free copy.

"This series of books provides coverage of all of the major analytical techniques and their application in the most important areas of physical, life and materials science. Each text is presented in an open learning/distance learning style, in which the learning objectives are clearly identified. The reader's understanding of the material is constantly evaluated by the use of self-assessment and discussion questions. Series Editor: David J. Ando. It is now recognized that, in order to ensure the validity of a forensic science analysis, a number of criteria need to be met. These include the following: The sample under investigation is suitable for the analysis being carried out. The analytical procedure adopted will answer the particular question(s) being asked, for example, with respect to identification, quantification and profiling (comparison of samples). The data obtained are both correctly recorded and interpreted. The findings are accurately reported. The aim of this text is to provide an understanding into the analysis of drugs of abuse within the context of their control, an appreciation of the different techniques that can be employed for drug analysis and the reasons for their use. In this book, the major classes of drugs of abuse are addressed, the analysis of which follows a systematic framework, including description, presumptive testing, thin layer chromatography, instrumental methods and data analysis. Throughout the text, regular questions and answers are used to further develop an understanding of the processes being employed. This book will appeal to both undergraduate and postgraduate students of forensic science, as well as those practitioners who are new in post or receiving additional or refresher training. It should also be of benefit to those who are studying controlled substances as broadening courses in other scientific disciplines. "

Book Description
The authors provide a comprehensive treatise on wild and cultivated Bolivian potatoes, a critical food crop in high altitude regions throughout South America. Part one illustrates their importance in providing the genetic basis for developing new potato varieties resistant to pests and
diseases and adapted to environmental stresses. The genetic and cytological relationships between species, their genome composition, and their crossability with each other are also discussed. In part two detailed descriptions, distribution, habitat data, and taxonomic positions are set out,
species by species. The authors' views on the evolution of cultivated potato species are also presented.
Book Description
For its broad range of engaging literature and flexible arrangement at the lowest net price, the shorter edition of Literature: The Human Experience is a classroom favorite, now with more help for reading literature and an emphasis on global ideas. Selections are carefully chosen and arranged around the classic themes of humanity, such as Love and Hate and Culture and Identity, to help students connect what they read to their own life experiences. The shorter edition offers more selections from around the globe and new ways to open students' eyes to a broader world literature.

The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine
ASIN: 1566562910 |
Book Description
For Palestinians, the 1948 massacre by Irgun and allied Stern Gang soldiers of more than 200 residents of Deir Yassin, a tiny village near Jerusalem, resonates sharply as a focal point of history. The dead victims almost all women, children and old men became irrefutable evidence of the consequences for Palestinians of the creation of the new Jewish state. The resulting forced exile of over 750,000 Palestinians in 1948 over two million scattered in a far-flung diaspora today remains at the heart of the Israel-Palestine conflict. Remembering Deir Yassin brings together Palestinians and Israelis, Jews, Muslims and Christians, Jewish theologians and Palestinian priests, to reflect on the fifty year legacy of Deir Yassin.
Customer Reviews:
a beautiful memorial book............2007-05-21
I have enjoyed reading this book. Its many contributors from both Israeli and Palestinian society have made it a wonderful dialogue. Whether ones interest is in the Deir Yassin Massacre, or the greater Arab-Israeli conflict, this book is enlightening for the varied perspectives that are part and parcel of the conflict. Too many peices tend to lack human depth, no matter which side of the conflict it covers. This composition lends that human element, and reminds one the impacts of ideology and history have played unfair games with the lives of men, women, and children.
Another Lost Opprtunity.......2006-12-08
The greatest disappointment I felt in this book is not what it was, what it made of itself, but in what it could so easily have been--But wasn't; What it could have done, but didn't.
If you pick it up expecting to gain a vicarious patch of high ground from which to safely view the events in and surrounding the village of Deir Yassin on the morning of April 9th, 1948, look elsewhere. A much better crafted ten-page narrative was written over thirty years ago by Larry Collins and Dominique LaPierre than any to be found here.
Worse, if you expect to immerse yourself in the lives of the victims--mothers who illuminated dark corners of their homes with stands of Carmel Daisies; sons who, awash in testosterone, stepped ashore onto sand moist with breast milk then stumbled forward toward the dry, desolate earth of manhood; daughters who looked sidelong into the eyes of boys conflagrant of lust of life, then away before their own might be detected; fathers who permitted themselves the vanity of oil in their hair, drank too much arrack on Thursday evenings and wondered, wistfully, if they'd married too young, too impulsively; then all of them to awake one morning to see the end of everything before they'd found a moment to wipe overnight residue from the corners of their eyes--you'll share my disappointment.
You'll find scarcely a thread of the human fabric of Deir Yassin here.
Worst of all, the editors saw fit to exclude entirely mention or examination of that other son, who, with coal tar smothering his features, allowed his essence to be washed along in that same bestial surge of adrenaline and naked terror and mob non-thought that consumed so many boys before him, from My Lai to Srebrenica, from Nanjing to Adana--and from Gush Etzion to Munich: Boys warm from the crush of their mothers' embrace that sent them off to war; boys whose cranial walls imploded in the absolute moral vacuum into which they were dropped, an assault rifle their only friend in a mist of enemies; boys who returned home, rinsed encrusted blood from their bodies before patting mute love through fingertips upon the shoulders of their mothers while asking for a cup of tea.
They decided instead to assemble a bound collection of twelve essays, only two of which were based upon stories of individuals, neither of whom slept at night within the confines of Deir Yassin--and only one of whom was present for the April 9th predawn in which the Star of David never rose, as if unwilling to be associated with the abomination transpiring below. Of the remainder, virtually all are essentially heels planted into Palestinian sand, political statements long of wind and selective historical memories but short the warmth of human breath. To the extent that the human component of Deir Yassin is mentioned at all, it surfaces only as a numeric value within statistical reportage. In the so doing, the editors chose to repeat the dehumanization of Deir Yassin and all it implies that made her destruction humanly possible--and by extension, the dislocation of her survivors, thus clearing terra firma of unwanted flora and fauna up to and including Ishmael's children--making way for the plow, pre-manufactured housing and bypass roads.
Several of the essayists make perfunctory offerings of reconciliation, of forgiveness of debts owed. But with a single exception, all did so only after submitting a litany of grievances, listings of historical events in which transgressions of their own are curiously absent, some of which would be humorous were they not so naked in both their ingeniousness and cardboard cut-out perspective of the purity of Jewish evil. Fuad Bassim Nijim, for instance, in reference to the proposed building of a Deir Yassin memorial, imagined that "Israeli children can learn [from the memorial] about the bloody past of their fathers, while Palestinian children can better understand how their parents were dehumanized and why they carry a wounded spirit."
Only Rami G. Khori comes close to presenting an olive branch in his right hand without a dagger in his left: "Deir Yassin was the site of a massacre. Yad Vashem [a nearby memorial to Holocaust victims] recalls the evil of genocide...May these be the last memorials to atrocity in the Holy Land?"
The last great hope of pre-empting the need for additional memorials to the fallen fell from the lips of Haidar Abdel Shafi at Madrid. That both the editors and most of essayists of this book were in no way influenced by his simple, gentle dignity, his eloquent manifesto of the minimal rights of his people--or any people, without resort to strategic dishonesty--is astonishing. It placed him within the same category of historical figures as Mohatma Ghandi and Martin Luther King.
This book chose instead the well-travelled low road, in fear of upsetting the mass. It will, as a consequence, pass into obscurity, as have all before it that found not within them the courage to turn within the stream and find another way. It will reap the mediocre harvest of its own cowardice.
Hayat Balabseh was a young woman of unusual compassion and extraordinary courage. She deserved better than for her memorial to serve as a flimsy gunnery platform for political assassination.
terrible the history of a lie.......2004-02-16
This is nothing short then the history of a fabrication, which is to say the history of the Deir Yassin 'massacre' in which less then 100 Jordanian-arabs were killed in battle with the Haganah in 1948, all of those killed were combatants, killed with weapons in their hands or close by. This book ignores the truth and ignores many other facts sourounding the unfortunate event. This book sadly, and regrettably, completely ignores the similar massacres of the Etzion Block where 100s of Jewish civilians were also murdered. Hopefully a second edition of this work will carry the name 'twin massacres' Dier Yassin and The Etzion Block. But until then this book will be a biased account of a controversial episode, one that has been blown out of all proportion.
A Well-Balanced Account.......2003-02-13
The sad story of what happened in Deir Yassin is told through the research of 12 individuals whose papers are joined together here to make this book. It is written in much the same style as "Iraq Under Siege".
The story of the massacre at Deir Yassin lives in infamy, but its history is quickly becoming forgotten as urban development now covers the site... a site that ironically (or not) sits within a stone's throw of the Holocaust Museum, Yad Vashem, in Israel in somber rememberance of the 6 million Jewish innocents that were massacred by Hitler in WWII.
Chapter 11, "Christianity and the Future of Israeli-Palestinian Relations" is one of the best written in the book. All chapters are thought provoking and written with succinct clarity.
I especially appreciated this book not only for its candor, but because it maintained an essence of ecumenicalism between Christians, Jews, and Muslims that many other books do not afford. This is a must read for EVERYONE!
