The field of relativistic electronic structure theory is generally not part of theoretical chemistry education, and is therefore not covered in most quantum chemistry textbooks. This is due to the fact that only in the last two decades have we learned about the importance of relativistic effects in the chemistry of heavy and superheavy elements. Developments in computer hardware together with sophisticated computer algorithms make it now possible to perform four-component relativistic calculations for larger molecules. Two-component and scalar all-electron relativistic schemes are also becoming part of standard ab-initio and density functional program packages for molecules and the solid state. The second volume of this two-part book series is therefore devoted to applications in this area of quantum chemistry and physics of atoms, molecules and the solid state. Part 1 was devoted to fundamental aspects of relativistic electronic structure theory whereas Part 2 covers more of the applications side. This book teaches the basic methods of partial differential equations and introduces related important ideas associated with the analysis of numerical methods for those partial differential equations. Standard topics such as separation of variables, Fourier analysis, maximum principles and energy estimates are included. Numerical methods are introduced in parallel to the classical theory. The numerical experiments are used to illustrate properties of differential equations and theory for finite difference approximations is developed. Numerical methods are included in the book to show the significance of computations in partial differential equations and to illustrate the strong interaction between mathematical theory and the development of numerical methods. Great care has been taken throughout the book to seek a sound balance between the analytical and numerical techniques. The authors present the material at an easy pace with well-organized exercises ranging from the straightforward to the challenging. In addition, special projects are included, containing step by step hints and instructions, to help guide students in the correct way of approaching partial differential equations. The text would be suitable for advanced undergraduate and graduate courses in mathematics and engineering. Necessary prerequisites for this text are basic calculus and linear algebra. Some elementary knowledge of ordinary differential equations is also preferable.

This book cover the basics of partial differential equations. It's well written, motivational, and balanced rigorous. It contains a lot of good exercises which is a necessity for a beginner in this field. I read this book during a university course in the subject. I struggled. But in my opinion this book is pretty close to the ideal presented by Einstein: "Everything should be made as simple as possible, but no simpler".

A Great Family Legacy.......2001-04-01

My Aunt Geneva brought my heritage to life in her vignettes of her childhood days in her book Barefoot in an Oklahoma Sticker Patch. Through her shared experiences one can appreciate the struggles and triumphs of her great generation. Many of the vignettes are filled with the emotions of the times but laced with the humor and pride of the family. As her niece, "sticker patch" has strengthened my family respect, enhanced by family pride and inspired me to leave a similar legacy to my chldren and grandchildren.

Depression Life in Oklahoma.......2001-03-11

A timid socially deficient young girl becomes a prominant, intelligent, teacher, educator, and community servant through grit and determination and the strength of family during the depression when the thing she did was persevere and walk through those sticker patches.

The book is akin to "Angela's Ashes" except it is from an American, Oklahoman vantage point.

Brilliant Work on Southern Demagouge!.......2000-01-05

This work is a must read for anyone interested in southern history, or in demagougery in the U.S., or in southern politics! The author does an excellent job -- in a very interesting and readable narrative -- of truly capturing the colorful Eugene Talmadge, four times elected Governor of Georgia! He captures the real Gene, from Talmadge's red suspenders, to his plants at political rallies, to his outlandish, dogmatic ways -- such as the time he caused the Univ. of Ga. to lose its accreditation. As a teacher and historian, this book is one of the very best I have ever read!

Breakenridge - A View From Within The Clanton Gang.......2006-10-31

Please read this book with the understanding the nature of W.M. Breakenridge's relationship to the "cowboys" and Clanton faction. He, along with John Behan were openly aligned with the rustlers and criminal element. Consequently, his comments regarding Mr. Earp and the law in Tombstone are terribly biased and not to be taken as fact. Had Mr. Breakenridge been neutral, his words would have had significance. Mr. Breakenridge was little more than a tax collector, although he paints himself as a force in law. Reading his manuscript as fact would be similar to reading a biography of Adolph Hitler written by Joseph Goebbels and accepting it as pure fact.

One of the best books on Tombstone.......2001-06-19

The only truly first hand account of the vendetta between Earp and the Cowboys. Breakenridge is obviously sympathetic to the Cowboys therefore his work has constantly been belittled by the Earp worshippers. Of course what does he know? He was only there. The Earp Idolators can't stand that he has left a first hand account of what really happened. They'd rather see the events through the filter of Burns and Lake. But this book is the real deal. Read it and understand.

If you would like to read about how the non Wyatt Earp supporters felt about "Tombstone" back then read this book.

This is a greatly Revised edition of the orginal work........1999-06-06

Having read the orginal version of Helldorado 20 years ago, anticipation of again reading this first hand account of Tombstone days quickly lead to disappoint due to the blatant revisions in this book. For example, the chapter about John Ringo has been completely omitted and substitutions based on author Jack Burrows's derogatory comments from the Gunfighter Who Never Was have been substituted. Orignal photographs have also been omitted. Since William Breakenridge was actually acquainted with the people and times he wrote about, why should a modern revisionist feel compelled to correct his original observations and opinions and thus distort history? If an author has a different viewpoint, then let him/her write their own version, not use the title of another's work.

Bonar Law - The Forgotten Prime Minister.......2002-01-11

In a well-written and engaging work, Prof. Adams brings to life one of the most overlooked British politicians of the early 20th Century, Andrew Bonar Law. What is so amazing about this obscurity is the fact of the immense effect Bonar Law had on British politics. He played a pivotal role in toppling the Asquith government during World War I, but his most lasting legacy was his involvement with Ulster and the Irish Question. Adams rightly states that the existence of Northern Ireland is Bonar Law's greatest achievement. (NOTE: This is not a value judgement in any way of the Irish Question, simply a fact) Despite being an 'academic' work, this book is very easy to read and filled with wry humor that makes potentially dry history come to life. I highly recommend this work.

Andrew Bonar Law was a Conservative politician and prime minister from 1922-1923. From an Ulster family, he was prominent in the opposition to Home Rule for Ireland. In 1922 he was the moving spirit in the stormy meeting of Conservative MPs that ended the coalition, created the 1922 Committee and reinstated him as leader. The Conservatives easily won the resulting election. Law became prime minister in October 1922 but resigned due to ill health the following May.
