Book Description
This text presents concepts simply while ensuring the best, most accurate coverage. College Accounting is designed to make accounting understandable to virtually everyone without sacrificing substance and technical correctness. A step-by-step, straightforward approach helps students build practical accounting skills that are needed when entering the world of work. The text presents simple topics first and gradually builds to more advanced topics, so learners are not overwhelmed. The narrative approach covers a simpler example of a service business before moving to a merchandising business, and finally, a manufacturing environment.

Frustrating and disappointing and a waste of my good money........1999-11-03
STUDENTS BEWARE !!! It is frustrating, disappointing AND a waste of my good money to have bought this book, only to later discover that I could not buy the subsequent volume to cover only Chapters 16-28. I now have to purchase Ch.ONE thru 28, because these money-grabbing scoundrels did not write/publish the follow-up ! I am extremely disappointed with having to re-purchase the first 15 chapters, which are now, to me, superfluous! They are a done deal! All I need is the textbook for ch. 16-28. The Study Guide/Working Papers for 16-28 are available for purchase...why not the damned textbook???

Book Description
The primary aim or purpose of this book is providing a methodology for creating a CoachSystem (CS) in an organization.
This book is also not necessarily a skills and practices book. There are many great coaching skills and practices books available for developing coaching ksa's but hardly anything on what coaching can do for and to organizations!
This book also provides a method to take coaching to the line-the bottom line in organizations-all the way to the customer interface. It provides a simple, yet effective model of coaching that anyone can learn in a few minutes and then proceed down a path of mastery over time to creating organizational effectiveness.
Clearly this book lays out for you a coaching methodology you can teach to your line managers, or use with your customer service department-even your kids! It helps you build a CoachSystem, integrating coaching into your organization at every level.
The book is about creating outcomes for the individual and the organization that lead to well-being, purpose, competence and awareness. It is based on proven methods of improving performance, creating generative rather than destructive change and facilitating individual and organizational transformation.
Customer Reviews:
well written and easy to follow and understand.......1999-11-02
I enjoyed reading your book immensely. It was an ongoing revelation of our relationship over the past 12 years. The "light-bulb" was constantly being illuminated as the coaching principles you so clearly and succintly penned to paper shined before my consciousness. You truly have been practicing what you preach!
The depth of your research and how you incorporated into your thoughts and practice was appreciated throughout the book. It is well written and easy to follow and understand. I am recommending it to all my colleagues. We are not coaches but just understanding the dynamics you put forth are sound for any relationships we encounter in the future of our practice.

Customer Reviews:
A deep grasp of algebraic coding theory.......2006-09-19
The book is well organized and mathematically rigorous. It depicts a full picture of conventional algebraic coding theory in a systematic fashion. As a specialist in coding theory, I give my highest rank.
Channel Coding gone wild.......2006-06-25
I used this textbook for an introduction to Channel Coding class I took (graduate level). I think that the material is difficult, but this book is remarkably clear, considering that. I had no experience with Galois Fields or any of that kind of math before starting with this book, but I was able to grasp it. I think the main thing missing in this book are good summaries for each chapter, giving highlights of the important stuff. Sometimes it's hard to get an overall picture of the material, I got bogged down in math sometimes. Visually, the book is beautiful, good fonts, charts, etc...
Students beware!.......2006-05-28
I am taking an error correcting code class as a graduate EE student where this text is assigned. The book is a reference manual for people who already know the material. It is not for those who are new to algebraic codes or galois field arithmetic.
The book is introduced as an introductory book, but it is nothing of the sort.
horrible text.......2006-02-18
This book is not for beginners. All about is math.Impossible to understand.I try to give ZERO star.

Since its inception in 1915, the Best American series has become the premier annual showcase for the country's finest short fiction and nonfiction. For each volume, the very best pieces are selected by an editor who is widely recognized as a leading writer in his or her field, making the Best American series the most respected -- and most popular -- of its kind. Dave Eggers, who will be editing The Best American Nonrequired Reading annually, has once again chosen the best and least-expected fiction, nonfiction, satire, investigative reporting, alternative comics, and more from publications large, small, and on-line -- The Onion, The New Yorker, Shout, Time, Zoetrope, Tin House, Nerve.com,and McSweeney's, to name just a few. Read on for "Some of the best literature you haven't been reading . . . And it's fantastic. All of it." (St. Petersburg Times). Lynda Barry Jonathan Safran Foer Lisa Gabriele Andrea Lee J. T. Customer Reviews:
Mostly the stories are about survival.......2004-11-28
Sherman Alexie writes of Sacagawea, the Shoshone who accompanied Lewis and Clark. She died of some mysterious illness when she was only in her twenties. Lynda Barry's entry is in the nature of a graphic short story. She covers the interesting subject of the peculiar scent of each person's house.
Ryan Boudinot writes of having a costume as Hitler for a school harvest carnival. First he created trouble on the school bus. His fourth grade teacher was amused and disturbed. Another student dressed as Anne Frank. The teacher elected to have a discussion about the Second World War. The girl playing Anne Frank saw her popularity soar. Davy, the boy character of the story, decided not to be Hitler that evening. He and his father found a Frankenstein mask.
Mark Bowden writes of the tyrant, Saddam Hussein. In his sixties, he cannot appear to age since his power is based on fear. He swims, he dyes his hair. His desk is immaculate. He reads voraciously which is a good thing since he is fed lies. His passion is Arabic history and military history. People have reported it is plesant to sit and talk to Saddam. As people age, the area of making choices is reduced. A tyrant has the narrowest field of all. Power shuts the tyrant off from the world. Saddam's clan was known to be violent and clever. Saddam committed his crimes publicly, cloaking them in patriotism. Things started with ego and ambition and became a political movement. The conflict in Iraq was a conflict in mentalities, between the city and the village. The backbone of politics is in the city. In the city politics is a matter of law, not blood. Saddam was a man of the village, of tribal loyalty. His favorite movies were THE GODFATHER and THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA. The invasion of Kuwait in 1990 was a military miscalculation. Mark Bowden explains that cruelty is the tyrant's art.
Judy Budnitz in "Visiting Hours," describes visiting her brother Ezra in the hospital after he suffered a concussion causing short term memory loss. She tells her parents she is danger of being suspended from school because she has taken time-off to visit her brother. The family dynamics appear to be conflict-ridden and mysterious. The brother suffers a new injury to remain in the hospital.
David Drury states in a piece that a suburb is a delicate thing. A family whose house burns down inherited the house from an aunt. The blended family did not really fit into the neighborhood. Family members did not tend the lawn, and Christmas decorations were taken from the yards of the other houses. The children did not have the approved kinds of bicycles and they were shunned by the other children.
Tribute bands are a maligned sector of the rock and roll scene claims Chuck Klosterman in "The Pretenders." Being derivative is not simple. Fans already exist for the tribute band. You don't have to beg your friends to come to watch you play.
This selection of material by Dave Eggers and his advisory group of mostly high school students is quite good. The idea of having annual volumes for different kinds of writing is great.
Eclectic assortment..........2004-10-22
I bought this for a plane ride and I loved it. The fact that it mixes so many different genres is great. There are so many pieces in this collection that I never would have been exposed to had I not purchased this book, and I'm thankful I did.
Without getting into specific essays, I enjoyed almost everything featured in this book. It is a diverse group of readings, and I'd recommend it to anyone that wants to broaden his or her horizons but doesn't know how to do it. You'll feel enriched after reading this.
Very fun read.......2004-10-03
This eclectic collection of writing was loaned to me by a friend who thought it would be right up my alley. She was right! I had never heard of the series and am now seeking out the other years of "Nonrequired Reading." Every selection is different, so you are bound to love something in here. Several entries had me giggling delightedly. Others had me crying. Most I just enjoyed without any sloppy emotionalism. Definitely recommended.
Unmitigated Failure.......2004-04-27
They should retitle this volume: "Nonrequired Reading, Where Literature Comes To Die" Why anyone would want to waste their time with pretentious drivel like this is beyond me. This is the most needless collection of mish-mash I have ever seen put together.
Must Miss.......2004-03-31
This anthology is dull, dull, dull, full of mediocre writers who couldn't achieve recognition if it wasn't for the keen perceptive eyes of Dave Eggers and Zadie Smith, two "literary powerhouses"--yeah, I even have to laugh at that one. If you hate Smith and Eggers, you'll hate this anthology even more. This volume is titled Nonrequired Reading for a reason. It's somewhat amusing to skim through while you're on the toilet, but I can't say that it merits anything more than a cynical chuckle, before being tossed into the garbage bin with last month's Cosmo.

A Biased Biography........2007-10-07
Grigori Efimovich Rasputin was one of the most mysterious men in Russian history. It was difficult to understand his ways in life. Was he a holy man who was simply misunderstood, or was he a scheming sinner who manipulated the suffering of others? Was he a miracle worker or just a crafty manipulator of the Imperial Family? All of these questions and more are answered in Rasputin by Harold Shukman.
To this day, Rasputin is a shadowy and enigmatic character; a person of contradictory personality traits. He was a suitable scapegoat for those who wanted to attack the Tsar's actions and decisions, but who wouldn't confront Nicholas directly. Rasputin was thought to have powers related to God. In fact, most people believed he was God.
One of the most dramatic experiences in Rasputin projected these powers of God thought to be held by Rasputin. Rasputin had a very close friend, Anna Vyrubova. Not too give too much of the story away, but Anna was caught in a terrible derailment of a train in which she was almost killed. Although she survived the accident, doctors despaired of saving her life because her condition was so bad. Rasputin came to Anna and stood over her as she lay on her deathbed. He reached out and held her hand. Intensely focused, Rasputin repeated a prayer. Anna suddenly awoke from her coma; it was a miracle.
People believed Rasputin had an uncanny control over the Tsar and his wife. Rasputin enjoyed the celebrity status this reputation gave him. He was soon hated by all. The story of Rasputin's demise is well known. His assassinator, Prince Felix Felixovich Yussupov, always portrayed his murder of Rasputin as a political act to save Russia.
Rasputin was a man of malign and destructive force in Russian history. His religious teachings were unorthodox, and his alluring charisma aroused an illustrious response in many ladies of the St. Petersburg aristocracy. Shady financial dealings added to the atmosphere of decadence and scandal as he was considered a political threat.
This book fulfilled every one of my expectations. I was looking for a biography of a person whose life I knew close to nothing about. This way, I could learn something new. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone. It features events formed in the novelization
of a film, rather than in history context. The book is written so dramatically that I often was close to missing my stop while reading it on the train.
Some points in the book I found to be rather biased. The author depicted Rasputin to be a man with an unhealthy influence. Very few times in the book did Shukman present Rasputin as an honorable holy man with ostensible beneficent purposes. One must view a person from two perspectives: the good side and the bad side. If we pay attention to what one person depicts another as, we cannot set our own opinions. Instead, we will follow society's norm.
Rasputin offers a simple gist to Rasputin's life. If one would like to attain a detailed knowledge of Rasputin's life, then this book is not for them. This book can be read in a few hours. It has narrations and detailed events. Some pieces of his life are simply glimpsed. Nevertheless, it is a good read and I would recommend it to anyone.
A Good Intorduction.......2003-01-27
I wanted to get a brief introduction to the life of
Rasputin and this book delivered very well. It's well
writen, at times I thought I was reading the novelisation
of a film rather then history as it sort of plays out like
a movie.
Rasputin is an interesting character and this book made me want to read something more detailed and in depth on his life and
relationship with the Ramonavs. But I would suggest this book
for those who just want to get a glimps of who this man was. You
can read it in a couple hours.
A trustworthy profile: the head, the heart and the soul..........2001-05-20
It is a profound investigation about the demoniac monk. This book can teach us a great deal about the dark side of the human soul. The contents tend to lean us to two extremes: painful feeling of great fear and strange enchant.

Book Description
In the author's own words: "Have you ever been at a place where you felt you had absolutely no control over your life? Well! That is in my opinion is exactly what has happened to me. While living here on the Gulf Coast of Florida. It's like something takes me over at times. I will meet people, see things, smell a fragrance, or hear a sound that will trigger a response from deep down in my soul that I feel takes over my whole being. As a result it has been coming to the surface as poems. They are simple and understandable, heart felt, and at times when I have been transferring them to the word processor I myself have broken down crying uncontrollably, 'Sounds Crazy' you say; it can't be any crazier than it feels to live it day by day."

An edgy, no-holds-barred, post-modern memoir that moves with ease from the gritty details of a harrowing childhood, to the soulless meanderings of a young man "making it" in New York City, to the soaring search for meaning.
Customer Reviews:
a classic in gay lit and hindu/buddhist lit.......2005-09-13
a classic for gay men, people looking for more from life, people into eastern spiritual paths, and just all around good therapy.
at times i wished mark were less heady, but given his background it shows who he is fairly well, and of course you see how he came to be that person.
i gave my copy to a friend, other friends have ordered it and are enjoying it, and i am considering buying additional copies to circulate among friends. i read about him online, i read his follow up book, and hope to read other books of his in years to come.
mark is a real gift to the gay community, as well as a gift to humanity and the world as a whole. i would love to see this book have further surges of popularity as it did when initially written. further generations can certainly use the questions he raises and the emotions this book brings up.
wish u were enlightened before u wrote!.......2002-11-13
I was so ezxcited to read this book but very quickly disappointed. it was a very over charged account of something less nobler.
better watch the film 'holy smoke' and atleast get more action out of that.. this is a overly hyped book about nothing.
Made me cry..........2002-07-04
...For about two weeks my head was buried in this book. I've always had a curious fascination with art, with sex and with the meaning of life. (Haven't we all?) Well... This book made sense of a few things for me.
I remember being stood, crammed onto the subway with a 1000 other "suits" in my face. Me standing in my jeans and trainers... Trying to hold back the tears from reading this book.
It will always stay with me. I maybe don't read as much as I should but I must say that one of the reasons I do not is because it is very rare that I'll find a book which will touch me in a way that this one did!
Fabulous...5 STARZ and then some.
riveting.......2002-02-22
I didn't want to like this book. I didn't want to like a guy who had such low sexual morals and I sure didn't want to like a guy who would re-tell those sexual encounters so graphically. But like Mark I do. This is a really moving book with profound insights. I've read two of his books now and each one has left a quote on my refrigerator. This book put "Whatever it takes to break your heart and wake you up is grace". Wow! I read that and had to put the book down. What an interesting way to look at heartbreak and despair. This book is inspirational but probably too far out there for most people to "get".
A book for everyone who seeks to know life.......2001-06-30
Mark Matousek is a brave man and a generous heart. This true story of his tragic childhood, his escape into trading/selling his body for semblances of love, his entry into the chaos of the corporate world of New York with all the attendant singes of dermal pain and empty heart, his jogging into AIDS territory personally and in the loss of loved ones.......all of this journey must have been difficult to tell. But then he begins his odyssey of finding spiritual enlightenment and everything written before appears as preparation for his enlightenment. That Matousek writes well is a given here, and has been further substantiated in his subsequent books (like The Boy He Left Behind), and because of his finely honed skills this book steps beyond the too frequently published "self-help genre". SEX DEATH ENLIGHTENMENT could easily be a novel, so interesting and beautifully developed are all the characters at play here. The fact that this is one man's true journey toward entry into the spiritual world just makes it that much more engrossing. Though once on the bestsellar lists around the world, it seems that there should be a word of mouth compaign to bring people back (and find new readers) to this very special book. This writer has given us what really could be the discovery of a truely brave new world. Recommended as an inspiring guide to those who seek to truly know life and the connectedness of us all.
