Author Roughton's book is remarkably clear and concise, affording a comprehensive perspective on the context and content of an effective safety culture.
Those interested in creating such a culture will understand that the emphasis on safety must become an integral part of the organization from top management to the operating worker. This book describes the path to that end, as opposed to simply describing a tool to be used and set aside.

Such a useful text!.......2000-04-30

I absolutely appreciated this book, which, in my opinion, perfectly matches with another book by Lawrence Perko titled "Differential equations and dynamical systems". The main reason why I think this is a very good book is that it deals in a quite clear and extremely precise way with the analysis of attractors for stochastic time series, also developing non trivial concepts such as Lyapunov functions and the study of chaos. Thanks to its completeness and to a great number of examples, it can be extremely useful for both the applied mathematician who wants to improve his or her knowledge concerning the analysis and the application of both deterministic and stochastic dynamical systems and for the econometrician as well. One only fault: it should have been written later: the concept of non linear cointegration could have been dealt with, making the text even more useful for econometricians. A must read, anyway.

This is a must for any fan of offshore racing. Don Aronow was a genius, and his son (as you would expect) gives a passionate account of some of the aspects of Don Aronow that most of us have no knowledge about. The large text covers up that this publication is a little thin on the ground when it comes to depth of content - but for me it's all about the pictures anyway - wonderful stuff. They are of a bygone era - if I had a magic wand I would send myself back to the early 70's, so that I could experience again the most beautiful boats in the world. Failing that, this book is a step in the right direction in achieving my dream.....

Michael Aronow has done a fantastic job with this book. It's a class act all the way and it features the most incredible speedboat pictures I've ever seen. The action shots, in particular, are thrilling. Terrific!

Nice Pictures, Story is very safe........2002-11-29

I enjoyed the wonderful pictures that practically fill this thin book. They truly are unique and rare photographs for the most part. However, the story as far as a biography goes is sorely lacking in any great depth. And as you might expect of one's son, told from a safe vantage point, leaving much of the true gritty details out. The text encompasses as much a play by play of Don's racing career more so than anything else. Those who want to know the true story of Don Aronow beyond his race victory's should look elsewhere, but do by this book for the pictures, they are excellent.

Best boat book ever.......2000-12-21

This is the best book ever written about speedboats. Unbelievable stories combined with awesome photographs. This is as close as you can get to the action.

Don Aronow was the Babe Ruth of boat racing. It's refreshing to see him finally get the recognition he deserves.

"Don Aronow: King of Thunderboat Row" is as good as it gets for even the casual powerboat fan. It contains an amazing blend of breathtaking photographs, fascinating anecdotes and behind-the-scenes stories of Aronow's personal and professional life. George Bush's contribution to the book is a wonderful and moving addition. Michael Aronow has done an extraordinary job. He has delivered a winner, proudly carrying on the Aronow tradition.

From 1994 to 1998, William B. Gould IV served as Chairman of the National Labor Relations Board. One of only three NLRB Chairmen to come from an academic background, he quickly realized that he was an outsider in a very political world. In this compelling memoir, Gould describes the tribulations of trying to assure impartial administration of federal labor laws while faced with a hostile, Republican Congress. He describes his difficult confirmation process and wrenching Congressional hearings, particularly the one over Proposition 226, a ballot initiative that required unions to get explicit authorization from all represented workers prior to expending dues for political purposes. He tells how the behavior of both Board members and members of Congress, guided by self-interest and rigid ideology, contributed to the Board's problems. Clueless in the Capitol.......2000-11-04

For those fascinated by the political process, Labored Relations may become the top comedy pick of the year. Prof. Gould, a fine labor law professor who has dedicated his life to showing unions, companies and workers what he believes to be a better way, consistently rejected the sincere attempts by all those around him who tried to show him a better way to move past the traps that bedevil anyone who decides to play Washington's political game. The book begins with a musing by Professor Gould as to why, as Chairman of the National Labor Relations Board, he was being taken to task yet again by both liberals and conservatives during one of his many troubled appropriations hearings on Capitol Hill. But after 475 pages of labored musings, the reader will be even more amused to discover that the professor never does figure out the proper role of a member of the NLRB in our society. At one point he even asks himself what he likes least about being a professor and an NLRB member. Grading papers and dealing with his fellow NLRB members, he writes. Both tasks require a willingness to genuinely consider a point of view other than one's own, something the professor seldom does in his labored days in Washington. If you are interested in obtaining a political appointment in the next administration and want advice on how to make nearly every mistake possible during your tenure (including meticulously documenting your foibles in a memoir), be sure to buy this book.

it seems to me that chairman Gould didn't get as much adulation and power as he thought he deserved. Perhaps the reason that he didn't get along with anyone, including his democratic friends in congress, the white house and the Board itself, says more about his style than theirs.

As John's partner at just before publishing............2000-08-03

This book, an interesting documentary of 18th and 19th homosexuality in America captured my interest though it was a subject I would normally become absolutely bored. Jack's style is so intense that the reader is quickly pulled into his "spell" in the process, becoming immersed in the emotional outpouring of grief as well as the inability of Fitz-Greene Halleck to find any romantic/emotional support which could fill his void. So exemplary are these allusions, this reader was not sure who exactly was being documented. Life did not get any better with the loss of his one love; a love who could never give him what he wanted though it is never clear why. The fact that he was married was an indication that he was "in the closet" and it is not disclosed whether or not a physical/sexual relationship was ever consumated. Dr. Hallock spent much time researching the facts for this book and when finished(10 years of research), it was as if "Fitz-Greene" could finally rest. Enjoyed the book immensely, reading it with Jack's mother in his house in Philadelphia - though it appeared he was able to bring the emotions of Fitz-Greene to life. Well worth the paper back, at least.
