Not quite what you would think..............2002-06-17

I was extemely disappointed when I received this "book", it's actually a very brief spiral-bound pamphlet of things that are supposedly insider secrets of getting a job as a flight attendant. This is mostly an over-priced synopsis of things that most people already know from everyday experience and common sense.(e.g.: Don't chew gum on an interview, arrive on time when meeting with prospective airlines, have a neat appearance, smile and have a good attitude around others). There exclusive airline contact information consists of 14 primarily domestic carriers and information that you can easily obtain from any internet search engine and the yellow pages. This may be helpful for a very small percentage of people, but I would strongly suggest spending your [money] elsewhere as this book is filled with things you can easily find with a few hours of uninterrupted time, your home computer, and access to the internet.

After returning from maternity leave I wanted a new career change and a job that would give me more time off. Working in retail for over 8 years I had always dreamed of becoming a flight attendant, but I wasn't quite sure what the requirements were. After reading this book it really helped me prepare. It was easy to read, not too lenghty and was straight to the point. I especially liked the sample tests, and interviewing tips like the do's and dont's at the Open House such as making sure that pagers and cell phones are turned off during an interview because it's disruptive and arriving early because seating is limited. I recently attended an interview with Northwest Airlines and was selected for a training date in March 2001. I couldn't believe it! At the interview I was amazed at the number of people that were there. I had no idea it was so competitive. This book helped a lot! Thanks

I recently picked up a paperback copy of FAIRY TALES CAN COME TRUE: How a Driven Woman Changed Her Destiny, and I couldn't put it down until I'd finished the last page of the Epilogue! This driven woman's life reads like a novel, complete with suspense, intrigue, boldface names, steamy encounters, emotional meltdowns, and (which isn't giving anything away given the book's title) picking up the pieces all over again to create something even better. If you're a professional woman (or aspire to become one), in the legal profession in any capacity, or just enjoy getting inside the head and life of successful people, I think you'd enjoy this candid memoir. It's a perfect summer read!

Rikki Klieman is not much of a writer and less of a person. There is nothing here of interest or value.

In this book I found an enlightening story about the struggle to get to the top. A great description of the amount of dedication and self-sacrifice necessary to overcome obstacles, define (and redefine) goals, and to never stop moving forward. For any young woman looking to see what it takes to get to the top of her respective field, this is a wonderful story-if it is taken with a grain of salt. Even though Mrs. Klieman seems to find strength in her struggle in a man's world, she digresses to hypocrisy and to being just like a man more than she gives herself credit for.
You can call her a slut, or a liberated woman (that's the way it was in the 70s according to her). You can call her driven, or you can call her obsessed to a fault. You can say she is focused, or you can say that she ignores what fails to progress her theme-she is a good lawyer after all.
She writes that she never wanted to be placed ahead because she was a woman. But in one part of the book she calls a judge who also happened to be her ex (they dated while she was CLERKING!!)so that he could get her an interview with someone she otherwise would have had to wait months to see. This is just one example of many sordid situations. She is appalled when she is passed up for a judgeship because, according to her, she was too pretty. Yet there is clear evidence that she uses her looks just as much as she uses her brains. She also seems to think she is a super good-looking lady. She mentions it so, so, so many times it starts to get ridiculous!!! (is it just me, or is she not really that hot?)
In the book she was an alcoholic, a workaholic, vomited involuntarily on a weekly basis, was someone who couldn't carry on a relationship, never had kids, and basically admits to cheating on her husband (and wonders why he didn't want to have anything to do with the book). She had no life outside of the law. The best years of her life went to her clients. I thought the point was work to live, not live to work. She does the latter, incessantly. If she were a man, her life wouldn't be that remarkable. She had a part to play in every major obstacle she faced in life-she did it to herself. So many people throughout the book helped her that it's hard to believe she is self-made in the true sense. But the biggest gripe is the fact that she did not find happiness until AFTER she stopped practicing law. Her life during her years of practice totally sucked-I'm not sure what message that is supposed to send. If this is how you want to get to the top, be my guest.

Harvard Law School celebrates its 50th year of admitting women with a three day program, featuring Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg and Attorney General Janet Reno.

We begin our 30th year of practicing law today -- we have no idea where the time went. It really flew.

Our law school class had some 200 students, 11 of whom were women. Women now make up 50% or more of law school classes around the country.

The events of Leisha Joseph's life are sensational, but the deeper story lies in her relationship to God, and in what she can now teach others who suffer from the fear and hurt that result from violence and trauma.

As the treasured only daughter of an upper-middle-class family, Leisha, as well as her brothers, enjoyed a happy childhood. When she was eight years old, all this changed abruptly with the death of her father. The strain on her mother manifested itself in wild behavior. In between frequent stays in private mental hospitals, she brought home a string of boyfriends, some of whom preferred children and made their way to Leisha's bed. After trying to burn down the house and chasing Leisha with a kitchen knife, her mother was confined to the state mental hospital. While friends and family lent a hand, it was largely up to Leisha and her brothers to keep the family intact.

Sadly, Leisha experienced the pain of isolation because of her family situation. She found God as a teenager, but that comfort did not last long. I found this book very interesting and helpful, as I was kidnapped, stabbed and raped 12 yrs ago....this book was one of the best I have read since that time....it takes a very strong survivor to write about such an ordeal...I hope to be able to write one someday...this is my goal in life as it may be able to help someone else...we need to get these rapists off the streat and to let everyone know that it is very important to report rapes...once again....thanks for a great book...

life events that me and her have faced together. Hi, im the stepdaughter of Leisha Joseph. I'm not only giving the book 5 stars because she's my stepmom but, because i have read the book, and it seems, even to a 13 year old like myself, interesting. I think she deserves the 5 stars for, all the hard work she's ever done in her life. Writing a book, writing tons of childrens books like her new Christmas one that just came out. Basically, going on with her life no matter what challenges lie ahead of her, Leisha, is the most loving person i have ever met.

I was sitting at my aunts house when I seen this book and I grabbed it and read the short paragraph about the book and just that was enough for me to see I would love this book! So I asked my aunt to borrow it and brought it home and started reading it! I never wanted to put it down cause it always brought interest! I read the whole story and it inspired and amazed me! Never have I seen one person have so much faith in God! I would love to meet her and tell her my thoughts!

A helpful book to help those whom have been through rape.......2001-06-15

I read Leisha's book and it helped me to deal with some of the things that I had gone through on a personal level. I too came from a "Dysfunctional Family" I can relate because we have similar backgrounds even though our paths in life are different. At the time I first recalled a flash back and memories came back. There was not too many resources out there to read and to know that I wasn't alone.

It is very difficult to deal with depression and flashbacks but Leisha's book assures you that through her spoken testamony that God was there. It was her faith in God that inspires you. Some of us were not raised in christian homes and it shows that God truly loves us through his grace. Rape can happen any where at any time and God does see all. He is a just and loving God despite what happens. Leisha's book has helped me to open up more to others and it is truly a blessing to know that someone else understands your hurt.

When I was reaching out for help I found comfort when reading this book because there is so little on this subject that the church does not talk about. We need to talk about a topic that has wounded so many people out there. If you are a pastor, preacher, evangelist, lay person, councilor, rape victim or even a person who has never been through what she experienced please read this book! It will become a help resource that you can use to help those whom you love whom are rape survivors.
