Book Description
Fundamental Managerial Accounting Concepts 2e by Edmonds/Edmonds/Tsay focuses on concepts that are isolated and introduced in a logical sequence. The authors intentionally limit the scope of the material to help students build a solid foundation of the most important concepts in managerial accounting. Fundamental Managerial Accounting Concepts 2e is organized in a distinctive way, particularly in the first six chapters. The objective is to establish a coherent, integrative framework that enables students to build knowledge in stepwise fashion. The authors’ goal is for students to understand the underlying principles of accounting, not just memorize content.Customer Reviews:

Leading With Love: How Women (And Men) Can Transform Their Organizations Through Maternalistic Management
Kathleen Sanford Manufacturer: Vashon Publishing ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 0966175379 |
Book Description
In this time of change and decreasing loyalty between companies and employees, workers in every industry are expressing feelings of being unappreciated, unnoticed, and uncared for. The situation is ironic because businesses spend millions of dollars every year jumping from one sure-fire approach to the next in unsuccessful attempts to improve the work environment. Why have so many techniques failed? It's because so much of what is presented as good management is only a disguised form of manipulation.Leading With Love explains maternalisic management: leadership based on true concern for the well-being of the organization, the employees, the customers, and the leader. It explains how to balance the needs of all, and avoid organizational ills while nurturing your own personal and career success.
You'll discover why so many exciting business ideas haven't lived up to their promises. Many companies have adopted a succession of the latest techniques without experiencing significant change. The results: frustrated managers and a growing cynicism among both leaders and followers.
Leading With Love is a compelling presentation of how intuitively correct management theories can be implemented and lead to success for you and your organization when supported by the power of maternalism.

Pulsation, Rotation and Mass Loss in Early-Type Stars (International Astronomical Union Symposia)
Manufacturer: Springer ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 0792330447 |
Book Description
In this Symposium, researchers specializing in pulsation, rotation, magnetic fields and stellar winds are brought together for the first time in order to broaden our understanding of O and B stars. Thanks to advances in digital spectroscopy, new types of pulsating B stars have been discovered. The pulsations can be understood in terms of the recent revision of metal opacities, but the effects of rapid rotation and magnetic fields need further study. Observations in the UV and X-ray regions demonstrate that many B and Be stars show other activity, besides pulsation which is not yet understood. The reason for the enhanced mass loss in Be stars is a question which dominates the Symposium and which remains unanswered, although it is surely to be found in activity at or near the photosphere coupled with rotation. It is shown that the geometry of the circumstellar envelopes around Be stars is indeed a flattened disk as they can now be optically resolved. The variability of radiatively-driven winds from O and B stars are likely related to the rotation of the star. This underlines the central theme of the book: that the various phenomena seen in these stars cannot be studied in isolation.

The Burger Court: Justices, Rulings, and Legacy (ABC-Clio Supreme Court Handbooks)
Tinsley Yarbrough Manufacturer: ABC-CLIO ProductGroup: Book Binding: Library Binding ASIN: 1576071790 Release Date: 2000-11-21 |
Book Description
The Burger Court is part of the ABC-CLIO Supreme Court Handbooks Series. Proving not as counterrevolutionary as its legal architect Richard Nixon had hoped, the Burger Court delivered significant decisions in cases involving the separation of powers (including landmark United States vs. Nixon), federal-state relations, equal protection, free speech, and civil liberties. Another surprise: the Burger Court guaranteed in Roe vs. Wade a woman's right to an abortion, demonstrating that this court definitely had a mind of its own. An understanding of the Burger Court and its decisions is absolutely vital to a basic knowledge of how the Supreme Court fits into the long history of American jurisprudence.

Melvin Urofsky Manufacturer: ABC-CLIO ProductGroup: Book Binding: Library Binding ASIN: 157607160X Release Date: 2001-03-06 |
Book Description
Earl Warren served as Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court from 1953 until the end of the tumultuous 1960s. In The Warren Court, learn why conservative critics still view this court as revolutionary, out-of-control, and permissively leftist, while its liberal fans still cheer what they view as the court's progressive activism that secured--once and for all--the rule of law for all Americans. As relevant today as they were nearly half a century ago, the Warren Court's decisions remain with us today: the rights accorded to the accused in Miranda vs. Arizona, the limits placed on school prayer in the court's controversial religious decisions, and the abolition of school segregation in Brown vs. Board of Education. These are just a few of the Warren Court's controversial decisions analyzed here.Customer Reviews:

Dr. Douglas Owsley, curator for the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History and forensic scientist "reads bones like most people read books." He also gains as much knowledge from them. In No Bone Unturned: The Adventures of the Smithsonian's Top Forensic Scientist and the Legal Battle for America's Oldest Skeletons, Jeff Benedict presents a double story: a sensitive portrait of this extraordinary scientist and a thorough reporting of the landmark 1996 lawsuit, Robson Bonnichsen et al v. U.S. et al. Benedict admits that his initial plan was to focus on the lawsuit, in which a group of scientists sued the federal government for the right to study the remains of 9,600 year-old Kennewick Man--the oldest complete human skeleton to be found in America and claimed by the Umatilla Native American tribe for reburial, but shifted his focus after hearing about Owsley. The result is a fascinating account of how one man's commitment to science and knowledge could help rewrite North American human history.Owsley is among the country's leading authorities in skeletal research and physical/forensic anthropology. In addition to curating the Smithsonian's vast Native American skeletal collection, he has assisted various government agencies to identify remains in historic cases ranging from the war in Bosnia and Waco to September 11. By reviewing Owsley's input in these cases, Benedict shows how his involvement in (and impact on) the Kennewick man case is a logical outgrowth of his professional standing and brilliance. Part detective story, part thriller, the lawsuit at the heart No Bone Unturned provides captivating reading. Benedict tells this high-stakes story, replete with legal twists and high-powered political maneuvering, clearly and dynamically. One might think that a story about a scientist and a lawsuit could be, well, as dry as the bones Owsley studies. Far from it--No Bone Unturned makes the case for donning a lab coat and fighting the good fight. --Silvana Tropea
Book Description
When he's not at a notorious disaster, Doug Owsley is entering tombs and crypts, unwrapping mummies, or climbing into caves to unlock the secrets of bones.
In No Bone Unturned, investigative journalist Jeff Benedict not only unveils a compelling portrait of the man behind America's most notorious cases but also gives us a fascinating look inside the world of forensic science as seen through the eyes of a leading specialist.
Doug Owsley's extraordinary talent has put his phone number on speed dial for federal agencies, from the FBI to the CIA and the State Department. When the Branch Davidian compound in Waco caught fire, when a terrorist-flown plane crashed into the Pentagon, and when mass graves were uncovered in Croatia, the authorities called Owsley. Through cutting-edge science, instinctive artistry, and dogged tenacity, Owsley painstakingly rebuilds the skeleton, and helps identify it and determine the cause of death.
A curator for the Smithsonian's Museum of Natural History, Doug Owsley has handled over ten thousand human skeletons, more than anyone else in America. He has worked with America's historic skeletons, from, colonial Jamestown burials to Plains Indians to Civil War soldiers to skeletons tens of thousands of years old.
That includes the Kennewick Man, a 9,600-year-old human skeleton found in shallow water along the banks of Washington State's Columbia River. It was a skeleton that would turn Owsley's life upside down.
Days before Owsley was scheduled to begin studying the skeleton, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers seized it and announced they would repatriate Kennewick Man, burying his bones on the land of the Native American tribes who claimed him. Along with seven of America's leading scientists, Owsley sued the U.S. government over custody. At stake was a wide body of knowledge about our past and our history that would be lost forever if the bones were reburied. For six years, Owsley fought a legal and political battle that put everything at risk, jeopardizing his career and his reputation.
