The background for this study was the fact that, in 1999, Dutch legislation introduced a duty for the person engaging in biomedical research to take care of insurance on behalf of the test subject. The goal of this legislative arrangement being to guarantee that the test subject would be compensated without great difficulties in case damage arose out of the research. When such an obligation to take out insurance cover exists then, in case of damage, the victim will be able to claim compensation directly from the insurer. A critical evaluation of the functioning of this legislative arrangement has taken place and the situation in other parts of Europe has been examined. Country reporters from Belgium, England, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland describe the insurance and liability arrangements concerning biomedical research in their country. A comparative analysis completes the survey.

This book is an exposition of the derivation and use of equations of motion for two-phase flow, which include bubbly liquids and particle -fluid mixtures. The approach taken derives the equations of motion using ensemble averaging, and compares them with those derived from control volume methods. Closure for dispersed flows is discussed, and some fundamental solutions are given. The work focuses on the fundamental aspects of two-phase flow, and is intended to give the reader a background for understanding the dynamics as well as a system of equations that can be used in predictions of the behavior of dispersed two-phase flows. The exposition in terms of ensemble averaging is new, and combining it with modern continuum mechanics concepts makes this book unique. The book is intended for engineering, mathematics and physics researchers and advanced graduate students working in the field.

Beyond the mundane.......2000-08-30

This is perhaps the very first time multi-fluid modelling was given such a rigous theoretical analysis. It brings what was known as phenomenological and engineering approaches to the level of a scientific subject being operated with mathematical apparatus and opening new windows to examine problems of hyperbolicity, ill-posedness of the model and addressing multi-scale complexity in two-phase flows. It is useful book to have for anyone who want to capture the essence of multiphase flows and attempt to approach it as a scientific matter, either computationally or experimentally.

Eugene V. Debs was one of the very best products of American Labor movement. He was one of the millions of workers engaged in mass struggles for the most basic of rights waged during the late 1800's and early 1900's.

Two decades as a union fighter led Debs to adopt revolutionary socialist conclusions. He did so while in Chicago's Woodstock Jail, a few months before his 40th birthday.

He became a socialist in prison, was several times the Socialist Party's candidate for president, and became the a symbol of labor and Marxism for a generation.

Eugene Victor Debs RULES! (er..ruled!). This book shows how this great friend of humanity stood up against mindless racism, poweful business interests, and the military and prison-industrial complex in the early 1900s without fear of the powers that be! The Canton, Ohio anti-World War I speech (which he was unjustly arrested for making) should have been read during the Gulf War farce and the only complaint that I have of this book is that it doesn't include his classic soliloquy to the Canton jury (although it's widely anthologized elsewhere). Today's schoolchildren who are short on true heroes should be taught of that great American who lived by his words "I may not be able to say all that i think-but I will not say anything that I do not think!" Mr. Eugene Victor Debs!
