This book is not worth reading unless you are not at all familiar with the literature of employee motivation. All of the material is good, but not original. This is a good introduction to the subject.

A must-have resource for the pro-active manager........1998-09-09

Dr. Harris has hit the mark! This resource is conversationally written to the middle manager. It is obvious that he has researched AND experienced the "opportunities" of every day management of people.

Not only does he tell how others have succeeded in the challenges associated with employee motivation and retention, he gives practical, DO-ABLE, action steps for building a great team, small or large.

I discovered the book by word of mouth and have subsequently given it as a gift to others. Not long ago I saw "Getting Employees to Fall in Love With Your Company" between bookends atop the credenza in a friend's office, who also sang its praises.

I look forward to Dr. Harris's next book. Undoubtedly it will also be fresh, on the cutting edge, and on my shelf.

Speech and language technologies continue to grow in importance as they are used to create natural and efficient interfaces between people and machines, and to automatically transcribe, extract, analyze, and route information from high-volume streams of spoken and written information.

The workshops on Mathematical Foundations of Speech Processing and Natural Language Modeling were held in the Fall of 2000 at the University of Minnesota's NSF-sponsored Institute for Mathematics and Its Applications, as part of a "Mathematics in Multimedia" year-long program. Each workshop brought together researchers in the respective technologies on the one hand, and mathematicians and statisticians on the other hand, for an intensive week of cross-fertilization.

There is a long history of benefit from introducing mathematical techniques and ideas to speech and language technologies. Examples include the source-channel paradigm, hidden Markov models, decision trees, exponential models and formal languages theory. It is likely that new mathematical techniques, or novel applications of existing techniques, will once again prove pivotal for moving the field forward.

This volume consists of original contributions presented by participants during the two workshops. Topics include language modeling, prosody, acoustic-phonetic modeling, and statistical methodology.

This is a wonderful book, Margaret Wyles spins the magical tale of her childhood set in rural Wales in the period just before the outbreak of World War II. Ms Wyles obviously comes from that long line of Welsh bards, storytellers, who value the spoken and written word in ways that sadly our world is now leaving behind. Her mother Blodwen, upon who's letters this book is based, was herself a prolific writer. We are fortunate that many of her letters were treasured enough by their recipients to survive and find form again in this book. It truly brings to life the world that Margaret Wyles grew up in and makes one long for times like that again............

I rarely read biographies, but purchased this one because I know the author, and after drinking a few glasses of wine at a book-signing reception for him, felt compelled to do so. I was fully prepared to be bored by a dry historical biography, but was surprised to find an engaging book instead.

This is one book every person dealing with mental health should read, I could not put this book down till I finished it. It tells of the horrors and treatment of the mentally ill in the late fifties and early sixties in Ohio. The book tells the awesome truth about this subject. I am currently working at this particular hospital, and have been since 1972, I have heard of some of the treatment. All of the stories are not just about the injustice to the mentally ill, it also tells of the programs that were established to help the mentaly ill. I highly recommend reading this book and the other in the series of, Some Die Mad.

Auschwitz, Ohio which is Part II of the quatrain Some Die Mad is an amazing story and no doubt this work of art will become the definitive story about the tragic and bizarre mental health system of the Fifties. Whoever 44288 was, he does not deserve the anonymity his family has unnecessarily wrapped about him in its...ignorant shame. Auschwitz, Ohio and its three quatrain brothers, Gandy Dancing, Islands In Time and The Place To Wait are works of obvious genius and need to be celebrated. I cannot pass up an opportunity to tell prospective readers about this newly discovered classic, world-class piece of literature.

This look into the world of a Fifties Insane Asylum is gut wrenching and superb.

That this autobigraphical rendering was rescured from destruction is a testament to journalist and finder Perry Aayr to whom we all owe a debt of gratitude.

In case you're wondering, it is aptly titled.
