This book is a tome. A holy bible.

I ahve made my own Koji, Tempeh, Tofu, Kim Chee, and Saur Kraut with this book. Admitedly the Saur Kraut was wierd but my German relatives confirmed what I had done and were overjoyed that I had done it the old way.

My long experience in microbiology and fermentation (beer, beer, beer, beer) mean

I KNOW THIS IS GOOD BOOK.

But the most ignorant (but literate) mudsquating yokel can pull of alost any ferment cuz the techniques are thousand years old.

This book gives an overview of the nanostructure and the resulting electronic and optical properties of metal nanoparticles embedded in insulating polymer matrices. The preparation of such materials is reviewed with special attention to thin film deposition techniques. Deposition parameters, chemical and physical properties of the matrix material as well as the application potential of such films are described. Extensive investigations of the nanostructure are presented and detailed descriptions of the particle geometry given. As a result of various diffusion processes during thermal annealing or electron- and laser-beam irradiation, substantial changes of the metal particle size are observed. Extensive measurements of the electronic and optical properties are presented to demonstrate the detailed relationships between nanostructure and elctronic and optical properties. Modelling of the optical properties with various theories is explained in detail.

The articles in this volume focus on control theory of systems governed by nonlinear linear partial differential equations, identification and optimal design of such systems, and modelling of advanced materials. Optimal design of systems governed by PDEs is a relatively new area of study, now particularly relevant because of interest in optimization of fluid flow in domains of variable configuration, advanced and composite materials studies and "smart" materials which include possibilities for built in sensing and control actuation. The book will be of interest to both applied mathematicians and to engineers.

A fascinating study of the circumstances of African-Americans during the first thirty years from the emancipation of slavery in the United States. This analysis is divided into chapters that examine population factors, vital statistics, anthropometry, race amalgamation and social and economic conditions and tendencies. The author concludes that, as of 1896, the abolition of slavery did not demonstrably improve the plight of African-Americans in the United States. Hoffman was the statistician to the Prudential Insurance Company of America at the time of this publication, and as such collected vital and social statistics regarding African-Americans.

Ms. Leavengood delivers a captivating look at the lives of women who helped to shape the Grand Canyon - not geologically, but culturally. These early explorers helped to open up the Canyon for the millions who would follow, and the author does a great job in capturing the both the appeal of the Canyon and of the women who first made the trip. This book is a must read for anyone interested in the Grand Canyon or the human spirit.
