Very nice book.......1998-04-18

I have read this book first time very long time ago. It was one of my first books about the planets. Since that time I was returning to it several times. I is ilustrated with very much pictures and drawings about the planets and satelites of the Solar system including the Earth. The Earth described on the same way as other planets.

The book contains all necessary data young astronomist must have including the introduction to cosmology and astrophysics. The most attractive is the chapter about the Saturn and its rings.

I'm expecting new edition of Whipple's book with new discovered facts about the Solar system.

An absolute great work. Whether you're an historian or someone just wanting to read a good story this book has it. Mr. Howerton will take you with him, from the beginning at Camp Claiborne Louisiana where you will meet the infamous drill Sergeant Julius G. Phagan. He'll make a soldier out of your h'ass or else. You'll traverse the states by rail arriving at Camp Kilmer and then board the troop ship Stirling Castle. Once in Europe the 355th wastes little time before being thrown into action at the Seigfried line and their first major battle at Lindern Germany. The 84th infantry division played a major role in the European theater of WW2 and K Company of the 335th was in the thick of it. I highly recommend this book

Incredible memoirs of a WW2 soldier.......2005-11-18

I have been conducting research on my grandfather's service in Germany during World War Two and this book describes the firsthand emotions of combat, then looks back in hindsight with notes that further explain how soldiers deal with the day-to-day of battle and life.

I would highly recommend this book.

An excellant account of an infantry company in World War II........2003-03-07

Dear Captain, et al. Is a brilliantly written memoir of a young soldier during WWII. Mr. Howerton gives a very factual account of a highly distinguished infantry company during the war. His wonderful writing style allows you to see the war from day to day through his eyes. You will get to know the men of Company K, 335th Infantry Regiment, 84th Infantry Division as if you were there with them. The love story intermingled with the historical content is an excellent touch. I would highly recommend this book to everyone.

This book is absolutely fascinating! Marcella Horn's exciting account of her city born family's move to the wilderness is both witty and profound. This book combines courage, adventure, and romance. It is about fulfilling dreams, overcoming odds, family unity. Ms Horn vividly describes the rugged scenery of the Pacific Northwest wilderness and her characters come alive under her pen. Encounters with hungry and wild creatures, some four legged, some two, abound. It is a thrilling memoir.

In January 1995, the World Trade Organization (WTO) became the successor to GATT-the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade. The new organization was the result of years of negotiations on improving the rules-based trading system that oversees international trade. While most trade officials and others who have a direct interest in multilateral trade policy consider this multilateral system to be a major contributor to the enormous growth of world trade and income over the past half century, the WTO is viewed with suspicion and even animosity by many environmentalists. The criticisms focus on many aspects of the WTO. Some maintain that trade liberalization under WTO auspices has led to an environmentally harmful exploitation of natural and other resources, and others argue that the WTO hampers governments in pursuing environmentally friendly policies. The WTO is seen as increasingly extending its reach into areas-particularly through its dispute settlement process-that go beyond what is normally thought to be trade policy with important implications for the environment. Dealing with the principal issues in the trade and environment debate will preoccupy negotiators well into the next century. They will be a focus of attention, for example, in the Meeting of Trade Ministers in Seattle just prior to the start of the next millennium. The outcome of these negotiations will be important for all WTO members. This book provides an overview of the key issues for negotiation in the period after the December 1999 WTO Ministerial Meeting in Seattle.
