The Connolly's latest book on employee surveys is an outstanding reference for survey practitioners (like me) as well as for those who may be doing their first survey. The book is packed with practical ideas on the entire survey process.

The 20 ready-to-use surveys included are excellent and support the trend towards quick, issue-focused surveys vs. comprehensive employee surveys. The authors have freely shared their extensive knowledge and experience about employee surveys and quick surveys. It's almost like they poured their life's work into the book. I'm really impressed with this book and pleased to add to my reference library on surveys.

Iwas a new comer to the area of gardening. You Know all these things after Russian default ana crisis of 1998. This book allowed me to grow incredible harvestwith step by step instructions . In my district tverybody was demanding me about "special" seeds I used during this process. But the truth was that I havent even seen the description of the plants I was growing. It was easy, definite and really enjoable. Now it is my second year and everything just like a wonder: repeats all over againg. I have a tremendous harvest for my zone and my neighbors haven't one due to the desease and "bad tomatoes year"

Jason learns to live on his own because of the strong support of his parents and the many professionals who care about his future.

This is one young man's struggle with who he is and who he wants to become. He must choose between the intellectual world and the real world. What he desires are companions who share his interests in computer networking and math. There is a strong hope that the future will bring a greater understanding of Asperger's Syndrome so that more young adults will have the adequate resources available to them to be successful men and women. Giant Steps - On Eagle's Wings.......2006-06-21

When Jason Auell was born on April 22, 1980, autism/Asperger's research was starting to take off. He developed within normal limits as did his brother Luke, who was born on November 30, 1981.

Jason's behavior was closer to the Asperger's end of the spectrum, but as with any continuum, there were overlapping behaviors. He talked to himself; was echolalic well into early adulthood (autistic behaviors); saw the world in black and white, as "either or;" had special interests and facility for language (Asperger's). He had difficulty keeping his school work organized and had melt downs when confronted with making decisions. These problems are ones he has contended with for his lifetime.

Jason was also diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD); Bipolar Disorder as well as Asperger's. The boy's mother suffered from bipolar disorder as well. Jason's behavior became seriously erratic when he was 11 which resulted in extended hospitalizations.

From 1990-1992 he was an inpatient at the Forest Lodge Hospital in Colorado. He made great strides in independent living and was doing well on his pharmaceutical cocktail of anti-psychotic medication. His behavior in addition to the autism, bipolar and ADD included psychotic ideation under certain conditions.

He re-entered public school after Forest Lodge. The boy found his niche in math, science, German and band; it was in those classes where he excelled. The autistic aspects of his behavior included difficulty understanding nonverbal language; blunt statements with no intended malice (Asperger's) and the talking to himself and echolalia.

Over time, Jason is rehospitalized several times. After one such stay, he is situated in a halfway house in Macon, Georgia. That turns out to be an inappropriate placement as his housemates are cognitively delayed.

After working with the state systems and publicly elected officials, Jason is able to live in an apartment with another young man who has agreed to act as his mentor. SSI as well as other services helped defray Jason's cost of living expenses. Services for adults with disabilities are included, along with passages from Scripture which the family found comforting. The song "On Eagle's Wings" could easily underscore this entire book.

This book does a real service to the multiply challenged adult; I like the way Scripture is included and the faith that this family had at all times. Despite the many hardships they faced as a family, they pulled together and their devotion to one another is what makes this book stand out.

This is the ideal companion book to INDEPENDENCE BOUND by Marquette.

It was a good book on helping me to know how to let go of my child as he grows older and teaching him independent living skills. I was so pleased with the book and how much it taught me.

A journey.......2004-02-10

This book creates a journey in your own heart and mind as you travel with Dr. Gruber through his. This book touched my heart in ways I didn't expect. It is a tale worth telling and a book worth giving. If you cried when you read Tuesdays with Morrie, you will cry when you read this book.

A pretty good book.......2003-12-27

I am actually directly related to Mark Smetko--he is my uncle. This was a pretty good book. Knowing how our family actually lived through it, I think it was a little romanticized but for the most part quite realistic. The medical terms at the beginning added understanding and interest, and helped build up to the devastating shock when Dr. Gruber developed Hepatitis C and had to quit his job as a surgeon.

This story might have a couple of editing things that need to be revised a little bit. Otherwise, it is a pretty touching story and it was very sad for those of us actually living it. My uncle Mark was a very interesting person and it is good to read about the lives of these three people--Dr. Gruber, Mark, and Mark's mother Zita, my grandmother.

Couldn't put it down, related to so many things in this book. Falling in love can be like a madness, if you have been there you will know. I enjoyed the journey to Sweden, and across the country. Thank you for such a descriptive visit to beautiful Stockholm!

Alaska Love Story.......2003-11-21

This is a wonderfully informal book that takes you on a journey with the author through the Alaskan countryside. It contains excellent descriptions of this wonderful state, but the what continues as a theme throught the book is the author's love for the state and his respect and admiration for the green shirts and brown shirts he worked with for 28 years.

Alexander Terrell's career placed him at the center of some of the most pivotal events in nineteenth- and early twentieth-century history, ranging from the Civil War to Emperor Maximilian's reign over Mexico and an Armenian genocide under the Ottoman Empire. Alexander Watkins Terrell at last provides the first complete biographical portrait of this complex figure.

Born in Virginia in 1827, Terrell moved to Texas in 1852, rising to the rank of Confederate brigadier general when the Civil War erupted. Afterwards, he briefly served in Maximilian's army before returning to Texas, where he was elected to four terms in the state Senate and three terms in the House. President Grover Cleveland appointed him minister to the Ottoman Empire, dispatching him to Turkey and the Middle East for four years while the issues surrounding the existence of Christians in a Muslim empire stoked violent confrontations there. His other accomplishments included writing legislation that created the Texas Railroad Commission and what became the Permanent University Fund (the cornerstone of the University of Texas's multibillion-dollar endowment).

In this balanced exploration of Terrell's life, Gould also examines Terrell's views on race, the impact of the charges of cowardice in the Civil War that dogged him, and his spiritual searching beyond the established religions of his time. One should read this brilliant biography of a man who lived at a time of enourmous change and had the courage, energy and talent to influence much of the change. A farmer, lawyer, politician, father, diplomat, soldier/officer - successful at each. Founder of the University of Texas at Austin and Galveston, A.W. Terrell possessed oratory skills that only could come from a man whose intellect was above average. The author, Lewis Gould, not only captured a man,s unique character, but enables the reader to see early Texas through his words.
