R. P. Burn is an amazing writer for mathematical textbooks.

This book follows Burn's typical format; therefore, this text is little more than a collection of (very) brief introductions to terminology and concepts, followed by a long list of questions for each chapter. Finally, each chapter has an answer section.

The questions asked typically very short, and at first are very simple and intuitively obvious. As each chapter progresses, however, the questions begin to build from prior questions already answered and express more and more complex concepts.

Typically, by the time a chapter has been completed, the reader will have completed one or more complicated proofs typically found in other texts on the same subject-- small bite by small bite at a time.

Life in the Arctic Circle.......2007-02-20

OK, so I'm incredibly biased, as this is my Great Grandmother's account of life teaching and working with an Inuit community starting in 1926 in the Arctic Circle. However, this is a fascinating read for anyone wanting to learn more about the environmental conditions and the (unfortunately) vanishing culture of the Inuit people. The honesty and lack of prejudice that my great grandmother exhibited in her writing during that time period is impressive, especially considering the harshness of such a climate. Ever survived living in extreme sub-zero temperatures w/o the benefit of central heating? Like to learn how it is done? Then this should definitely be added to your reading list.

This period novel, originally published in German in 1926, gives a very interesting look at gay love set behind the gay underground in Berlin. The story tells of one lonely man's attraction to a boy prostitute. I found MacKay's passionate descriptions of gay love and attraction, at this period in history, to be beautifully written.

Battle between love and devotion.......1998-03-19

This book gave much insight into the life of Radclyffe Hall, and how her mind worked. A battle between her love for Souline, a nurse, and her love for her partner of many years, Una, is very apparent in Radclyffe's letters to Souline. She refused to leave Una, who had been faithful and supportive of her for years, but loved Souline and wanted to spend more time with her. She loved Souline dearly, but was very controlling in doing so, controlling Souline financially and emotionally, sending the two on an emotional roller-coaster that in the end left them both separated.

A wonderful book, with very useful footnotes and background information.
