And if you are simply a person who loves someone with diabetes, you will find this book extremely helpful in understanding the emotional impact of this disease. The short summary of the book might be "It's okay to be angry about having diabetes, and in fact anger may help you to get the best treatment and keep yourself as healthy as possible." Mary Frances Connors has learned some very valuable lessons about being a strong advocate for one's own health care, and she's a compassionate teacher willing to bare her soul to share those lessons with us. We can relate to her very well because she's so human -- even though she's a registered nurse and highly self-educated about the nature of diabetes, she still has to fight off that urge to delve into a bag of cookies, and sometimes succumbs. She shows us how she -- and we -- can forgive ourselves and keep trying and working for the most optimal health and happiness we can achieve.

I have read this book twice! Anyone who has diabetes or is living with a diabetic in thier life should read this wonderful book! I for one, would never of thought of this debilitating disease in this way. It explains so much who and what they are dealing with. When you read the authors thoughts of her life with diabetes, it also makes you aware of all people living with all handicaps. It has answered a lot of questions for me and brought to light many inner thoughts of my own. I feel like I have been enlightened. I am a compassionate person but, this book has made me more so! Read it! You will walk away a different person.

Named ambassador to Argentina by Harry Truman in 1951, Bunker went on to serve six more presidents as ambassador to Italy, India, Nepal, and Vietnam and on special negotiating missions.
