Book Description
Packed with an exciting set of essays, this IHRIM book describes how HR is not only using the Internet, but in any ways is leading the way in business today. HR is throwing out the binders and moving volumes of information to Internet/intranet sites, enabling employee and manager self-service applications to improve organizational effectiveness. It would seem that the Internet and intranet were created specifically for human resources and they have embraced the technology and used it to their strategic advantage. This book poses as many questions as it provides answers, but the one common theme is progress. Share this information with senior level decision makers and strategic managers - they will thank you for it.

Nutrient Requirements of Horses: Sixth Revised Edition
ASIN: 0683049623 |
Book Description
This solidly clinical and practical text focuses on both nutritional and general care of the horse, whether idle, equine athlete, or general working horse. Also covered are developmental problems linked to nutrition. A color augmented chapter on toxic plants is unique to this text, and provides valuable information and conversion factors for various ages and physical demands.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent information with details and research results!.......1998-05-15
Excellent source of information for those horseowners who want to optimize their horse's care instead of just throwing "any old hay" at them. Even though this book is very similar (almost identical) in content to Lewis' other book, "Feeding and Care of the Horse", I would definitely choose "Equine Clinical Nutrition" instead as it contains literary references to research. Very useful if you need supportive information and are located near a vet-med library to pull papers.
This book should be used in conjunction with the "Nutrient Requirements of Horses" (National Research Council, 1989), as Lewis' appendices do not include the full nutritional content tables of many less-commonly used feeds.
This book is well worth the price, and I am looking forward to the next edition if one is in the works!

From the author: Polyesteramides were prepared by reactive extrusion by a condensation reaction of a fatty dicarboxylic acid [Unichema Pripop (1009 (C36)] or a carboxyl terminated polyamide 12 (CTPA 12) and a dioxazoline coupling agent [(1,3-Phenylene)-bis(2-Oxazoline), (00)]. The Residence Time Distribution (RTD) was measured using different fillers as in-line ultrasonic detectable tracers and UV detectable reactive or nonreactive tracers. The apparent RTDs measured using ultrasonic detectable tracers were very different. The analysis of the reaction product and comparing RTDs measured using ultrasonic and UV tracers showed that the addition of a tracer had no effect on the reactive system and that most of the ultrasonic tracers did not flow in an identical manner to the reactive system. No direct correlation was obtained between the rheological or rheokinetic behaviors of the monomers or the reactive system and the apparent RTD. The RTD was obtained by using calcium carbonate as in-line ultrasonic detectable tracers and UV detectable reactive or nonreactive tracers.

Essentials of Computational Chemistry: Theories and Models
ASIN: 3527305890 |
Book Description
Written by experienced experts in the field, this book describes the basics to the extent necessary for reliably judging the results from molecular modeling calculations.
Without unnecessary overhead, it leads readers from simple calculations on small molecules to the modeling of proteins and other relevant biomolecules. Beginners are guided through their first modeling experiment, while routine users of modeling software are provided with invaluable troubleshooting hints. A unique resource for students, researchers and lecturers, now available in this all-new, enlarged edition.
"If the currently popular 'Dummies' series of computer books were to publish a volume on molecular modeling this would be it" (Journal of the American Chemical Society)
"The book is well written and assumes no prior knowledge of molecular biology, statistical mechanics, or quantum chemistry. The authors provide practical hints for the application of the majority of available programs in computational chemistry" (Computers in Physics)

Accelrys advertisement.......2007-01-17
This book describes what is essentially docking calculations in the context of the Accerlys software. The text is very qualitative and does not provide enough instruction to do any "molecular modeling". It seems to be more guidlines for various software packages sold by Accerlys.

Book Description
Camillo Golgi (1843-1926) is widely regarded as one of the founders of modern neuroscience. In 1873 he discovered the 'reazione nera' - the black reaction - a histological stain which was to prove to be a revolutionary method for studying the structure of the nervous system. To this day, the Golgi stain is still widely used. For every student of medicine or biology, Golgi's name is synonymous with one of the basic structures in the cell: Golgi Apparatus, a cellular structure involved in protein glycosylation and transport. Golgi discovered the apparatus in 1898, and as a result of which, he is probably the most widely cited biologist in the scientific literature. But this is only one of Golgi's many contributions to scientific research. Amongst other things, he devised a system for the classification of neurons on the basis of axonal distribution, and identified a type of cell in the cerebellum. He identified and described the malarial cycle in the human. His discoveries were both basic, and rich with therapeutic implications. His remarkable achievements earned him a Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1906. It is enough to open any book of biology or medicine to realize that Golgi is one of the giants of 19th Century scientific endeavour. Despite this, Golgi remains a relatively unknown figure in the history of neuroscience and cell biology. This long-awaited biography, in a new translation from the Italian, is a fascinating analysis of Golgi's experiments, ideas, and personal life. It will be welcomed by anyone who has ever wondered about this brilliant Italian scientist and his seminal contributions to the fields of neuroscience, cytology and cell biology, pathology, and biochemistry today.

Book Description
This first biography of William C. Stratton covers Illinois politics and the Stratton family from the 1920s through the 1950s.
Born into a political family and immersed in Republican politics throughout his youth, Stratton never seriously considered a career other than the one that led him to be a member of congress, state treasurer, and two-term governor of Illinois from 1953 to 1961.
Shortly after Stratton lost the 1960 Illinois gubernatorial race by a wide margin, federal agents began to check his financial records for possible income tax evasion. The IRS accused him of spending political contributions for personal use without paying taxes on them. Stratton was acquitted, but his political career was virtually finished, even though he did run again for governor in 1968.
Basing his work on original sources—including interviews with Stratton—David Kenney focuses on how and why Stratton became involved in politics. He examines Stratton’s goals and the methods he used to achieve them. His discussion of factionalism and the continuing conflicts within the Republican party from the 1920s through the 1950s provides a closeup portrait of Illinois party politics on all levels.
Customer Reviews:
A Political Passage The Career of Stratton of Illinois.......2007-07-12
This book is an excellent account of William G. Stratton's background and career. Chapter one is an accurate description of the Stratton family and Lake county, Illinois during the the first few decades of the 1900's. As a Stratton relative, I can say that I am thrilled with this chapter because it is just as my late father, a first cousin of William G., described it many times. Mr. Kenney did a fine job as author of this well-done book. Evidently Mr. Kenny knows historic Illinois politics inside and out!

A long term prairie wetlands research project.......2001-02-25
As a result of decades of conservation research we now understand the basic underlying value and fundamental necessity of sustaining prairie wetland ecologies for the overall well-being of the ecosystem, with implications for wildlife habitation, and the impact of human activity (including agriculture) upon natural resources. Henry R. Murkin, Arnold G. van der Valk, and William R. Clark have successfully collaborated in summarizing the findings of the Marsh Ecology Research Program (MERP) in Prairie Wetland Ecology: The Contribution Of The Marsh Ecology Research Program, which also reflects the contributions from ten field experts. This comprehensive and long term prairie wetlands research project was a joint effort of Duck Unlimited Canada and the Delta Waterfowl and Wetlands Research Station. Prairie Wetland Ecology is a superb and highly recommended introduction to prairie wetland ecology research in general, and MERP in particular, as well as providing a superbly informative background for further ecosystem research.
