Helped me avoid many costly mistakes.......2001-06-05

As a solo chiropractic practitioner with no B-school background, this book came as a revelation to me! There is actually a systematic way to evaluate potential employees! Some of the chapters about psychometric testing, etc., applied more to small-to-midsize companies instead of micro companies like mine with 10 employees. Yet, I use the interview format from this book every single time I have a job opening for the last four years. What a difference it has made in my clinic staffing!

Excellent for teacher science activities........1999-04-26

Masons' book is great for teachers that are looking for fun science activities. The activities in this book can be modified from Pre-K thru middle school. Great for interactive and hands-on experience. I have personally used it for three different grade levels and each time the students were very enthusiastic and eager to learn more. Mason makes the experiments easy to follow. Mealworms are fun and easy to care for. Following the metamorphic cycle is an experience my Pre-K, Kinder, and First graders will never forget. Thank you Ms. Mason.

Space exploration for the layman.......2007-01-28

Venus Observed provides a unique look into the Magellan mission: a journalist's perspective.

Not being a scientist myself, it was easy to understand and comprehend not only the space craft, but also the data that was retrieved. Thanks to Henry S.F Cooper's superb writing, anybody can sit in mission control and understand what the mission planners wanted to achieve, the spacecraft's capabilities, the Venusian landscape, and the competing theories and discoveries of the mission's scientific team. You not only get the scientific stuff, but you also get the human drama as technicians try to keep the craft flying and scientists argue about data that (to them) doesn't make sense. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

This is the best book about the dogs and dog handlers I have read. Other books I've read seem to be stories that could have been written by anyone who'd heard about the situation. In "None Came Home" it was clear that this author was involved and he gave a human/dog perspective. Many of the other books told of battles more than the "dog" story. I will read this book again and again. (and cry each time.)

Mr. O'Donnell is a verified USAF Vietnam Combat Veteran/K-9 Sentry Dog Handler who served in U-Tapao, Thailand during his active duty service. SGT O'Donnell's novel represents a dream of what could have been done to restore order from the powerless trauma of what had to be done regarding the U.S. Government's requirement to abandon K-9s at the end of the Vietnam War. "Beyond the Stone Arches" is the gripping story of a pioneer missionary doctor who served for four decades in a mission station deep in the interior of Fujian province. Each chapter could stand alone, for the scene changes from Imperial China to the shaky, new Republic in 1911, to civil wars, banditry, floods, plague and cholera epidemics - but through it all, Edward Bliss, Jr. tells the story of his father's daily work, his love for China and its people, his ventures such as raising milk cows so children could have milk, and his courage in the face of danger from Communist guerrillas, bandit gangs and rampant warlords. Memoir of a Journalist Career.......2007-02-06

Bob Schieffer who spent his life in journalism and was the anchor of 'Face the Nation'. He offers a behind-the-scenes account of his more than forty years in journalism, including coverage of the White House, the Pentagon, the State Department, and Capitol Hill. Mr. Schieffer also discusses his reporting of Kennedy's assassination, the civil rights movement, Vietnam, Watergate and September 11, 2001.

You can tell that he enjoyed his career as a journalist and seems to be honest in his recollection of his career. And his brushes with those he interacted with. Though he does name drop and seem to let us know when ever fate favored him. Other then some of the few self-serving statements on his personal life and social climbing, his anecdotes are still worth reading. Even though he seems to never have met a person he didn't like. Do not expect to learn anything new, but it will jog your memory of many familiar events.

I enjoyed this book because it gave an insider's perspective on many of the most important news stories of my lifetime. Having worked for a CBS affiliate in the early 80s, it brought back many memories. But what I took away was a sense of Bob Schieffer's genuine, unflashy but solid character. I've never met him, but I watched his work over the years as the "backup" anchor for CBS News. Stars have come and gone, but he has always handled that duty with quiet grace. He was never one to grand-stand, to wax with righteous indignation or pomposity. He's never tried a special sweater or a silly signoff (remember "Courage"?) to boost his ratings. I'll bet he never even owned a blow dryer. Just did his job, said his piece, bringing hard work and common sense to the task. To me, this book was a heartening reminder that the basics really can pay off in the long run.

Bob Schieffer is not only an outstanding reporter and anchor but an excellent story teller as well. His accounts of the history he has seen make the reader feel a part of the story. Highly recommended to anybody interested in knowing more about the stories that have shaped our lives.

Stories Of His Career.......2005-04-17

Schieffer just tells stories of his life in a fun way. He has loved his career as a journalist. He tells stories of Walter Cronkite, Barbara Walters, Jimmy Carter, Shah of Iran, the Kennedy assasination, and other stories of years past. He has covered many big stories in his life including Vietnam in the past and 9/11 in more recent times. He recently did the Presidential debate in 2004.
