If anyone wishes to take their health seriously they need to read every book that this man has ever written. The medicine and pill popping society of today would be far better off, if people exerted the self-control explained necessary to promote better health.

This book was obviously written by scientists actually working in the field and allows the reader to gain from the writers' actual experiences in development, application and trouble-shooting of various assays. This book will serve as an excellent teaching tool for lab managers to train their staff in the complexity of developing, optimizing and using immunoassays.

Decent math book.......2001-06-29

While I resent the term remedial, I will admit that I am very weak in math. I had to use this text for an algebra semester and will have to use it again for a trigonometry semester. I did get a B+ in the class, but I think that had more to do with the teacher then the book. After I actually sat down, ignored that the teacher had said and read the text, the algebra portion became much clearer. You'll probably never buy this book to own it, but if you come across it in school, don't be afraid.

Ferdinand Foch is the prototype of the twentieth-century general. Better than any other general of the First World War, Foch came to understand how technology and modern alliance systems had changed the nature of warfare. He is most famous for his role as Allied commander in chief in 1918. In this position, unparalleled in the history of warfare, Foch welded together the disparate war efforts of France, Great Britain, the United States, Italy, and Belgium. Now fighting as a more coherent whole, the Allies repulsed the German spring offensives of 1918 and returned to the attack themselves in the summer. In this role, Foch foreshadowed the similar roles played by other commanders of large coalitions, such as Dwight Eisenhower in World War II and Norman Schwarzkopf in Desert Storm.

Foch's other important legacy is his public dispute with French prime minister Georges Clemenceau during the armistice and peace negotiations. Foch argued strongly for the creation of Allied bridgeheads across the Rhine River to ensure that a less populous and less industrialized France could defeat a vengeful Germany in the future if necessary. His public quarrels with Clemenceau, who did not share Foch’s opinion and did not care for his interference, left the French Third Republic with a civil-military crisis as menacing as the one with which it began World War I. Foch’s legacies are both positive and negative, but he left a profound impact on the twentieth century. Michael S. Neiberg masterfully analyzes this complex man and provides a solid overview of French political history against the fabric of the twentieth century’s first industrialized war.

Marshal Foch is largely forgotten today except by military historians and Francophiles, yet he was among the most important leaders during the Great War. In this illuminating biography, Neiberg restores Foch to his proper place in the annals of military history. Foch wasn't always right--his faith in the offensive proved costly to France in 1914--but the man had elan and cran, verve and guts. As generalissimo of Entente forces in 1918, he was instrumental in defeating Germany's warlords (Hindenburg and Ludendorff) on the Western Front. Neiberg's fast-paced and sympathetic account makes for heady reading. Neither pedantic nor polemical, this book is a "must read" for students of World War I or anyone interested in military matters. In short, I liked it!

I read this book in about one week. I found it very well written with logical conclusions and theories based on an extensive primary and secondary source material study, complex yet readable and extremely well researched. This is a book that anyone interested in American history and the complexities of the first 4 generations of the Adams family will appreciate. A masterful undertaking by the author...never boring and highly informative.

(...) An insightful and interesting study of four generations of complex and often contradictory personalities. I especially appreciated the author's manner of hinting at future developments and bating the reader to read on and on...in my case, well into the night. His analysis of the Adams' strengths and weaknesses is what sets this book apart so I am perplexed that anyone would describe it as dull and a mere listing of events. But don't take my word for it -- if you have only a few moments to browse through it, check the index for the passage dealing with the death of the tragic first generation daughter, Nabby. The writing is poignant and wrenching. Anything but routine.

A Must-Read For Early Am. Hist Buffs!.......1998-01-06

Four generations of the John Adams family of Quincy are brilliantly covered in this detailed, yet concise, 400 page study. The lives and work of 2 presidents, 3 major diplomats, cabinet officials, and great scholars are outlined within the context of their remarkable history as an American family. This book touches upon the topics of Colonial America through the Revolution and Civil War on into the 20th Century. One can't help but be interested with such personalities as Adamses John, Abigail, John Quincy, Charles Frances, Henry, and Brooks. Their triumph as a family, depite problems financial and personal (alchoholism, depression, etc.), makes for inspirational reading.

Too Close to the Mirror.......2003-10-15

I have thought enough of Smokey Crabtree's books to have bought them for the local schools in my area to have in their libraries. While it seems unfortunate that they are now out of print on Amazon.Com ... I am happy to say that I know people are able to easily purchase these books at .......... I honestly have enjoyed both of Smokey's books "Too Close to the Mirror" and "Smokey and the Fouke Monster". If I ever had one book in my library or was to recommend one book to another person that stands out among the rest, it would be either one of these two books. Smokey's easy going backwoods way takes you right into the swamp bottoms that Smokey called home for so many years. Smokey's son's experience that resulted in the encounter the Fouke Monster, along with local town peoples sightings and involvements with the creature is spellbinding in itself, but the real value of Smokey's story goes beyond all that. Smokey tells of how greed over the almighty dollar became more important to some folks than the creature itself and how it turned neighbor against neighbor until Smokey was almost at the point of wishing he'd never heard of the Fouke Monster ever again. In my opinion, the lesson that one will learn through Smokey's true life story will outweigh the price of the book a thousand times over for most of us ... maybe even more for others.

Enjoy the book for you won't be sorry you bought it!
