Very insightful into the world of performance appraisals.......2005-05-05
This book was required reading for a Management course here at ASU. I found the content to be very boring indeed. I also didn't care for the Skillbuilder sections either. My head is still spinning from them. Bob Cardy is a master at putting one to sleep. Highly recommended! Pick up a copy today! Snore.

Mr. Jager perfectly captures the rhythm of this small town........1996-06-10
Ron Jager has used his considerable store of dry wit and keen
sense of observation to create a book that wonderfully portrays life
in a small New Hampshire town.
His book is consistently entertaining, whether meditating on
nature as observed near his pond or contemplating the ups and downs
of life in a town that still practices the most basic form
of participatory democracy - the annual town meeting. Mr. Jagers
rural life does not begin in New Hampshire however. He also
gives us glimpses of his own boyhood in the midwest; a background
that makes him uniquely qualified to write about rural life in
a very different part of the United States.
Clearly the people that appear in this book are not just subjects
but neighbors and friends and his affection for them and for his
"last house on the road" come shining through.

Cool!.......2005-12-11
Claudia is given a choice: 1. She can go to 8th grade, 2. She will stay in 7th grade. Claudia thinks it is easy. But for her 7th grade friends, it is not.
what the hell?.......2005-07-16
instead of putting her back a grade, why not hire a tutor for her or put her in special education instead of moving her back one grade and then back up? What a mess the education system would be if kids having trouble in school were moved back one year and then back to their normal year!
How can Claudia decide?.......2005-03-31
Mrs. Amer said that Claudia can go back to 8th grade. Claudia has a hard time whether will she go to 8th grade or remain in 7th grade with her steady boyfriend, Mark?. This one is the best!. Will Claudia remain in 7th grade or skip to 8th grade?
I think this book is great!.......1999-07-05
The problem was, Claudia was faced with 2 decisions:which grade to go into(either to stay in seventh grade or move back to eighth grade), and figuring out what to do cause she was having mixed feelings with both Mark and...Josh! In the end she makes good decisions. Don't wanna spoil it for you! It's a great book. My cousin and I read it about a million times! Keep it up Ann!
It was a great, cool, beautiful, awesome, & ravishing book........1999-05-27
Claudia Makes Up her Mind (No. 113) is a bomb! So touching and romantic. I liked it so much I read it twice! Ms. Martin, thank you! :-) The book was also (very) funny. In every book that Ann Martin writes there is always something funny you can read about. Peace out!

Book Description
"Never be ripped-off again!" That's the rallying cry sounded by authors Elinor Burkett and Frank Bruni in their war against shoddy products and bad service. Unlike other books that offer only buying advice, Consumer Terrorism is for those consumers who've already been burned. So when a vacation is ruined by a hotel's negligence, or that expensive suit comes apart at the seams, or the new car spends more time in the repair shop than on the road, it's time to take the offensive and get results. Intelligent, aggressive and realistic, yet humorously written, Consumer Terrorism leads readers through the most effective ways to present their cases. It explains who to contact, the right, and wrong way to complain and what to expect in return. The no-holds-barred approach is unique, cleverly blending the use of formal avenues of consumer complaint resolution with guerrilla tactics sure to get results. So get mad -- then get action!
Customer Reviews:
Too harsh!.......2002-06-17
I agree with others thoughts. I think the book goes overboard on expecting totaly 300% prfection ALL the time. It says that many people in service industries shouldn't be there because they are incompetant. I am a waitress, and I like my job, and I found that rather offensive. It isn't my fault when the kitchen screws up your meal, or that it tastes bad, or that it took too long to cook. I don't cook it!
This book has some good advice, but has a lot of stuff that you would ignore.
I felt ripped off buying this book........1999-05-25
I needed some concrete advice on how to handle complaint more effectively. This book didn't really tell me much more than to be obnoxious in demanding what you want. While the squeaky wheel gets the oil, why be obnoxious to a low level representative of the company? If you don't like how you are being treated, take your business and money elsewhere. This book just taught how to be a whiny, obnoxious customer, until the company caves in and you get what you want. How about some constructive advice instead?
A harsh outlook on customer service and satisfaction.......1999-04-07
The book Consumer Terrorism: How to Get Satisfaction While You're Being Ripped Off by Frank Bruni is about the poor customer service given by many companies in the United States. The book gives good advice to consumers who desire better customer service and demand satisfaction. It is a bit harsh when it comes to some situations and goes beyond what most people would do to get satisfaction. I think that the authors could have been a little easier on some of the companies. I did like the fact that the authors pointed out companies that provide excellent customer service. Other bonuses in this book are: a guide to using the Internet to file complaints and a list of consumer protection departments across the nation. Although I enjoyed reading this book, I think that the authors could be a little more lenient. People are human and mistakes are made sometimes. All in all, it did offer good advice to those consumers who may need a little push to get good customer service.
Don't get mad, get compensation.......1999-04-04
Consumer Terrorism, by Frank Bruni and Elinor Burkett, is a book that gives advice to consumers on how to take action against the bad service and lack of quality in our economy. It's a cry for consumers to stop being sheep and start being tigers. American consumers have come to expect and accept sloppy service and poor quality as a norm. This isn't how it should be and action must be taken to correct this. Bad service and poor quality started during World War II, when there was a large increase in mass production resulting in mass markets of goods. This is the time when mom-and-pop stores started to go out of business and customer service was forever altered. Then the Depression hit and the consumer could no longer afford the goods. With the end of the Depression, consumers went crazy buying products and using services. This gave the manufacturers a big ego and lead them to not care about service, quality, and loyalty. Their only concern was the bottom line. The 1980's did not help this when profit became the only thing manufacturers cared about and were rewarded for. It took the Japanese entering our market to start the revolution. Their products were of higher quality, better service, and took the consumer dollars away from the domestic market. At the present time, our economy is in transition from manufacturing to service oriented. This hasn't been a good transition for customer service. The economy is forcing people to take jobs where they have to deal with people and lack the skills to do so properly. These jobs are usually lower paying which also results in lower motivation for the workers to strive to do better at their jobs. The book is a how-to-guide for consumer terrorism. It states that "70% of consumers never complain about faulty products or bad service" (p.7). Instead loyalty to stores and brands diminishes, if not altogether vanishes. The book uses many stories as examples of real life situations of consumer terrorism and how to best handle them. Chapter one begins the basic training and skims over the main topics discussed and taught in this book. Consumer terrorism is an art, not a science which can be approved upon with practice. There are nine basic laws covered throughout the book. They are: 1) Never shrug and never surrender - go for reimbursement and compensation, pursue it. 2) Strike quickly and forcefully - be bold, be confident. 3) Shoot for the stars - demand compensation, be ready to state a price, price should be reasonable. 4) Don't suffer fools - go straight to the person with power. 5) Wow'em with facts - use words like bait and switch and fraud. 6) Act like a librarian; file, file, file - keep receipts and credit card bills, keep records of complaints. 7) Find your opponents Achilles' heel and shoot a flaming arrow toward its center. 8) Refrain from outright nastiness; indulge in downright naughtiness. 9) Don't bother with the Better Business Bureau (p. 31-35). The chapter also goes over some terms that merchants use to deal with consumers who complain and the real meaning behind what is said. An example is when a merchant says "That's not our policy", and means "what you are suggesting will cost us money, so forget it" (p. 39). But as I said earlier, the nine laws are the focus along with stories used as example of each.
This book is a calling for consumers to fight back........1999-04-01
This is a book that gives advice to consumers on how to take action against the bad service and lack of quality in our economy. It's a cry for consumers to stop being sheep and start being tigers. It is a how-to-guide for consumers to start to fight back. Overall, it was an interesting book that was easy to read and understand. The authors use good examples to get their points across to the consumer. Although one aspect regarding the examples used, too many become repetitive and boring.

Book Description
Internalization theory, despite criticism of its empirical deficiency, has dominated the industrial organization approach to the multinational enterprise and its foreign direct investment (FDI) decisions. Liu improves the empirical foundations of internalization theory, through the elaboration of the FDI signaling framework, which holds that a firm's direct foreign investment influences the perceptions of less-informed market participants. The signaling concept is derived from the premise that a firm's intangible assets in know-how cannot be correctly priced in a market with asymmetric information, and this motivates the firm's decision to undertake FDI. If the premise is correct, the firm's decision is based on inside information, and the firm's action reveals that information to the market. The firm's FDI internalization is evidence of management's confidence in its intangible assets, and its action may further influence market perceptions. The hypotheses generated along this line of analysis are subjected to investigation, and the evidence supports the FDI signaling proposition. Moreover, the study represents an indirect test of internalization theory. As a result, internalization is transformed from a untested theory to an empirical result.
Book Description
"The wardens climbed into their truck, ready to leave. 'You'll need about seven cords of firewood. Concentrate on that. You'll have to get it all in before the snow grounds your truck.'""Though I didn't want to ask, it seemed important. 'What's a cord?'"So begins Pete Fromm's seven winter months alone in a tent in the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness guarding salmon eggs. After blundering into this forbidding errand as a college lark, Fromm gradually come face to face with the blunt realities of life as a contemporary mountain man. Brutal cold, isolation, and fearful risks balance against the satisfaction of living a unique existence in modern America. This award-winning narrative is a gripping story of adventure, a rousing tale of self-sufficiency, and modern-day Walden. From either perspective, Fromm lives up to his reputation as one of the West's strongest new voices.
Customer Reviews:
A great adventure painted vividly & honestly..................2007-08-29
Started this absorbing adventure when I arrived home from my work day (in the office) & finished 3 hours later. What a thrilling few hours it was too!.
The story starts as a young, immature college guy rather niavely (& foolishly) takes on a 7 month job in the wilds with no experience, knowledge, or realistic idea of how he will cope out of his comfort zone & what it takes to survive on his own during the harsh winter weather living in a tent.
It's surprisingly honest & revealing - most adventurers only recount the highlights & thrills (without exposing their fears & weaknesses).
Pete Fromm writes vividly & from the heart - it takes a courageous man to expose his inner thoughts & anxieties to his readers.
I found some of his descriptions of hunting/killing the wildlife a little graphic (so vegetarians beware), but towards the end of the book his growing maturity & awareness of nature & the lives of creatures in the wild, give me reason to believe he learnt to love & respect the wildlife (even if he still needed to hunt & trap to survive).
By the end of the book, his words come across as skillful as any seasoned writer & it was not surprising that he now has several books published.
I hope all who read this book enjoy it as much as I did....................
Good Stuff!!!.......2007-06-03
What outdoorsman has not dreamed of walking into the woods and living off the land? Fromm does a nice job in explaining what needs to be done to make my dream a reality...he also does a GREAT job in detailing the fact that I belong at home (in the city).
Nice read.......2007-04-30
This was a great book..... read it over a trip to Hawaii....
If you are into camping or wilderness this is a great read... A great Escape!
One of my personal favorites of this genre.......2007-01-23
I truly loved this book on many levels, from the hunting and fishing experiences the author shared to his personal reflections on several moral issues, which I felt were very poignant and truthful.
The majority of this book covers the author's seven-month stay in a canvas tent, deep in the Idaho wilderness during the months of October through May. His job was to watch over and protect millions of salmon eggs that had been cached in the gravel of a nearby river.
His love of mountain man books and the thrill of experiencing nature in all of its variety are ideals that initially lead him to volunteer for the long winter assignment. Later, his enthusiasm changes to loneliness and regret as he faces his separation from his friends and family.
On the surface, his tale recounts his meetings with hunters, guides, outfitters, forest rangers, wardens, and outdoors enthusiasts as they pass by his lonely tent in his remote meadow. He speaks of the extreme winter weather he faced, the wildlife he encountered, and the steps he took to survive in an isolated and severe environment.
The real beauty of this book, however, comes when the author shares how painful moments of loneliness affected him and ultimately how these experiences changed him into a person who became very secure with his own creative abilities and very comfortable with his own company.
He records some very personal reflections regarding what it meant to him to shoot various animals for meat during his long winter stay. As he accompanies various guides and hunters on their hunting trips, he recounts how he felt when others did not view their kills as the resources he believed they were.
The author writes of loss, of waste, of fully utilizing one's resources, of missing one's family and friends and how dear trusted loved ones are to a soul, and of the gloriousness of wildlife and wilderness. He revels in the beauties that surround him and comes to truly appreciate his experience alone for several months in the mountains.
My words cannot do justice to the lessons I watched him learn and to the maturing and self-discovery he experienced. I also cannot do honor to the beautiful way he describes nature, its wildlife, and the incredible beauty to be found in truly wild places. Thus, you should experience this book for yourself if you love these types of things.
"Indian Creek Chronicles".......2007-01-19
Refreshing and engaging first-person account of coming-of-age from a wise young man alone in the wilderness. I've found it personally inspiring as a, well, middle-aged woman, and continue to pass along copies to young people I know -- not because it's preachy or anything (it's not), but Fromm is the sort of buddy a mom would be happy to see her college kid bring home for a weekend: self-reliant, reflective, modest, polite, resourceful, and a good sport. Don't worry: It's a Man's Man's book (my manly husband likes it and recommends it, too). That Fromm happens to be a naturally good writer, too, is a plus. It's gotten awards, so you don't have to take my word on that.
