A 'Must-Have' for Barn Collectors.......2005-08-31

Ms. Gorczyca and Mr. Miller have done a spectacular job of presenting some of the most beautifully-written and photographed information about Ohio's bicentennial barns that are unparalleled in other books of this genre. The barns, majestically painted by Mr. Hagan are presented artistically, one county at a time, with its biography on one page and its photo on the opposing page. This technique of keeping the image on one page prevents the spline from interfering with the reader's thorough enjoyment of each barn. Being an artist myself, I could really appreciate Mr. Miller's eye for perfection in composition, resolution and color. This book is a must-have for any avid barn collector.

Very Interesting Book!.......2004-04-13

I thought this book was very interesting. I bought it for my dad for his birthday but I read through it first. It is the best book about Ohio's barns that I've seen. It would make an excellent coffee table book for anyone.

It's impossible to give more stars to a book that can not even get Ohio's counties spelled correctly. Trumbull County is listed as 'Trumbill'. C'mon, folks!

Barns of Ohio.......2003-09-13

We have been traveling over Ohio for the past several weeks photographing the bicentennial barns and have found this book to be especially helpful in understanding the history of each barn. It has been fun trying to get a picture equal to or better than the one in the book. The only fault we found was that some of the directions to the barns were not easy to follow. Mnay of the barns had no addresses so locating them with internet maps was not possible. As Buckeyes, we feel this project and the book were well done.

Not for the weekend road-tripper.......2003-07-20

While I appreciate the quality of the photography of this book, I wonder why its author (or publisher) chose to make it an oversized hardbound tome. It is much too cumbersome to take on road trips, which is the author's apparent intent since a detailed map to each of the barns is included. I hear that another book about the barns is due to come out shortly, and that, thankfully for the hearty travelers, it's a paperback! "Ohio's Bicentennial Barns" is a satisfactory coffee-table book, fine for perusing on occasion, but basically it's just a good living room decoration. While the cover caught my artistic eye, I must say that, aside from the photos, the rest of the book is somewhat tedious! Consider this a decent, but not very practical keepsake.

Now I know how they train dolphin to jump..........2004-12-07

I always wondered how in the world did they train a dolphin to jump, flip and do all those fancy moves and now I have some idea. I mean afterall, the dolphin is in the water and you are on land? With dogs, at least, you can say commands with your voice and reward it by petting it. Well, this book answers all those questions you wondered about how they trained dolphins but were to afraid to ask or afraid to look stupid by asking. It is written in a very friendly, easy to read language and I was very pleasantly surprised with the book. I would highly recommended to to anybody and who knows, you might pick up a pointer or two on how to train other animals!

For the trainer, the dolphin enthusiast, or both!.......2002-08-09

As someone who has loved dolphins her entire life (when I was little I wanted to be a dolphin trainer), this book intrigued me just because it was about dolphins and written by a dolphin trainer. I was pleasantly surprised on how much I was actually able to learn by reading it. Not only is it a great wealth of information about cetaceans (dolphins), it is also a very interesting read on training. It is full of anecdotes, making the book entertaining, and scientific data and fact, helping to lend a bit of seriousness. The unique training ideas that Karen Pryor discovered by trial and error can be, and are, used on every animal from a dolphin to a cat to a human. I highly recommend this book.

Great book-a must have!.......2002-06-12

This book provided a great insider's look to what is means to be a dolphin/marine mammal trainer. I would recommend this book to anyone who is considering this for a career path. I know I am and that this book has helped me gained a great perspective and tips on dolphin training. The stories are really touching and before you know it, you're feel like standing right next to the author feeding and playing with the dolphins. This book is a definite must-have!

This book was great!!! Karen Pryor is a great writer and a wonderful scientist!!! I have never read a more inciting book! It was great, it gave me different perspectives on dolphin training and even some insight on careers!! Buy this book, you won't regret it!!

Fun to read again and again.......2001-12-06

I first read this book almost 20 years ago, when I was a kid and in love with dolphins. I have re-read it two dozen times since then and enjoyed it just as much every single time. It will help the reader understand behavior in general...of your pets, your kids, your co-workers, your spouse...and how you can affect that behavior with timely and positive reinforcement of desirable responses. A delightful book! Hugely entertaining throughout.

Really fun chicken book, but not a must have.......2007-08-07

This book is full of photographs of chickens. Not your typical chicken pictures mind you. You will see various breeds of chickens (many you have never seen before that are very interesting to look at), and you will also get a brief chicken history in the back of the book. What I especially enjoyed was the fact that the author wrote a small paragraph on each breed (again in the back of the book) featured in the book. I enjoyed the pictures of the various types of jungle fowl (the chickens early ancestor), and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. This is not a must have, but it sure is an enjoyable one.

I give this a 5 star just for the pictures. If you want to know about chickens. I highly recommend these 2 books. Living with Chickens and Choosing and keeping Chickens.

Poultry Book Review.......2007-03-31

As a breeder of rare breeds in the Illawara region of Australia, I enjoyed adding to my poultry library a book as unique as this one. If you enjoy chicken breeds & photos of them I would recommend this book. The author has used a photgraphic studio to capture & highlight features of chickens that would never have been appreciated in previous books. I had purchased his original 'Extraordinary Chickens' & was delighted to add this extra book. The text is succinct & correlates well with other chicken information in other books. I recommend this book to all poultry enthusiasts.

A Chicken Lover's Delight.......2007-03-15

My friend Marjorie is a person who is very fond of chickens. She decorated her little rental cottage with a chicken/rooster motif. I sent her this book for her birthday, because I knew she would be the right person to appreciate it. She called and raved about the pictures in the book. She said she did not know there were so many different kinds of chickens. Marjorie was delighted, and I was pleased to have made her so happy. The is not a book for everyone. but in the right hands it is a joy.

beautiful portraits of chickens.......2007-01-09

This is a beautiful book with lots of high quality photos. The chickens are not presented the ordinary way (from one side) but let us see more realistic poses like stretching, crowing or flapping. There is not much information about the species, but you really don't need it in this book. Lots of other books gives you that information, but this is the only choise (as I see it) for this kind of chicken portrait photos. The book is a follow-up to Extraordinary chickens, and I think you should buy them both!
