Very often, weeds are the results of weakened turf and specific spoil problemsthe
Color Atlas of Turfgrass Weeds explains why, and helps you problem-solve for effective management.
Color Atlas of Turfgrass Weeds by L.B. McCarty, J.W. Everest, D.W. Hall, T.R. Murphy, and F. Yelverton is a volume in the series:

Customer Reviews:
A must get book if you want to know about weeds.......2003-03-05
This is an excellent book that really describes what the weeds are and what to do about them. Great clear REAL pictures of the weeds so there is'nt confusion with a drawing and what you are looking at in your turfgrass. I highly recomend this book to people in the lawn care and landscaping business. Or if your somebody that really likes to take care of your yard and want's a detailed book on what you see as the "bad" stuff in your grass and beds. I am a lawn care guy myself and love it.

Book Description
They've all grown up together on a tiny island. They think they know everything about one another...but they're only just beginning to find out the truth.
Zoey's broken heart. What can anyone say to make it feel better? Because the disaster that killed Lara, destroyed Zoey's home, and injured her parents has left Zoey devastated. And she's still so far from Lucas...
Customer Reviews:
A great book and a Suspenseful series..........2001-02-19
I loved the book!!! Zoey however, was not herself in the book, which is understandable. She was really full of herself (which is not understandable). I think that Lucas and Nina should end up together. I really saw them as a good couple in "Always Loving Zoey" Even thought they weren't a couple. I just think that Zoey was not sensitive to her boyfriend's needs (Lucas Cabral),seeing since his father just died, she needs to be there for him. The book was so good I cried the whole way through (I am a big cry baby). The circumstances are horrible and I only hope that there will be an uplift of spirit for all of the Island folks and something good will happen to all so I am waiting to see what happens in ... "Falling For Claire" ~Claire Ashley
Best one yet!.......2000-08-09
I love Katherine Applegates Making out series but I think that this one was one of the best ones yet. I have to admit that I didn't like Don't Forget Lara #25 as well as some others because lara has never been my favorite..my favorites being Lucus, Zoey, Nina and Claire..which is most of them really, but this one was a page turner to see if Zoey would forgive Lucus and Nina, how Ben and Zoey would handle the stress of the resturant and their parents, if Claire would start being nicer to Paolo, how Aisha and her new roomie are getting along..all in all each character had something interesting going on in which I couldn't wait to see how it turned out.
great book but zoey's so stuck-up in it!.......2000-08-07
i can't believe lara died! i cried when it happened in the last book and i cried at the funeral scene and in the nina/ben closet scene and... well, it upset me. and lucas was right at the funeral- zoey was acting so full of herself and her own problems when lara, a great character, was DEAD! she always jumped right to the conclusion that nina and lucas were doing it again whenever she saw them together! zoey is so full of herself. my favorite part was the plot with claire. a guy, paolo, has been SERIOUSLY bugging her thoughout the book! i think it's cool how much he likes her! she's aways been my favorite character and i think it's so funny how much he bugs her!! this book totally deserves 5 stars!!! the only problem is that there are only two more book in the series after this one!!!! waaaaaaaaaa!!! =)
wow.......2000-07-31
This book was great, I have read every book in the series and love them all,I am very upset though, why? Because I think 28 is the final book. This book is definetly worth reading though as are all the others in this series.
Great Book.......2000-07-29
This book was very interesting and I enjoyed just as much as I have enjoyed the others. They are fast, easy reads that are nice as little summer pleasures. It's too bad that Katherine Applegate isn't the one writing it and abandoned the series by book 8. Anyway, this book was VERY suspensful and I cannot wait for the next one to come out! READ IT!

Book Description
The Mesquakie peoples of present-day Iowa, historically known as the "Fox," are at the center of White Robe's Dilemma. An encounter with the French in the Great Lakes region, their original homeland, marked their first appearance in Euro-American history. Targeted for annihilation after they refused alliance with the French, they nevertheless endured, reappearing again and again in the records of the English and Americans as well as the French.
Over the years, the resistance of the Mesquakies has taken many forms, diplomatic and military, economic and cultural. They have rejected Christianity for the most part, and ridiculed the many anthropologists who keep coming to study them. A substantial number have managed, unlike virtually any other Indian group in the United States, to elude the reservation system by buying and main-taining their own settlement. Several have made important contributions to the literature in English by Indians, as has Black Hawk, of the confederate Sauk, whose autobiography has been in print since the Jacksonian period; William Jones, who became a student of renowned anthropologist Franz Boaz; and Ray Young Bear, author of the highly regarded autobiography, Black Eagle Child or The Facepaint Narratives.
In this intriguing study, Neil Schmitz imaginatively reconstructs and carefully analyzes the multiple legacies of the Mesquakie people. He shows how the complex story of their survival raises critical questions about the representation of Indians in American literature and history.
Although the Mesquakies are central to the book, Schmitz ranges widely through American literature both by and about Indians. Chapters on Standing Bear and Black Elk reopen the issue of agency and status, and reposition their tribal history. Helen Hunt Jackson's A Century of Dishonor and Elaine Goodale Eastman's Sister of the Sioux are given extensive readings. In pointed example and comparison, the author's broad knowledge of American literature repeatedly shows itself.

Good critical theory for teaching Native American Literature.......2002-01-14
This book is not only very informative in conveying the issues that Native Americans dealt with as a people, but, inadvertently, becomes extremely important for formulating questions/problems/theories one might ask when teaching Native American literature in a high school or college-level setting. White Robe's Dilemma can be considered one of the first in the way of ground-breaking work done in this particular area of American Literature. In that sense, then, it is true that the author, Neil Schmitz, "distinguishes himself" by way of being one of the first to actively contribute to the critical theory that tackles the problems of teaching Native American literature and culture in a literature class. Yet Schmitz, as an author, does not have to distinguish himself in the literary field. His work is renowned in the English critical literary field via his scholarly journal articles as well as for his authoritative, critical analysis of one of literature's most complex characters, Huck Finn, in his book, Huck and Alice: Humorous Writing in American Literature, not to mention the fact that he is a well-respected book reviewer for the Buffalo newspapers, an excellent lecturer, and has received awards for teaching excellence.
I agree with the man whose review stated that this "volume is a 'must' for anyone interested in tribal history." My opinion/recommendation about this book is that anyone interested in teaching Native American Literature should have this text as a guideline.

White Man Write Long Book........2001-12-05
I guess if you're an insecure white guy who wants to distinguish himself from other white guys, then you write about Native Americans! What a niche. But the nothingness shows through.
How?.......2001-08-11
Rich in its accounting for the often surprising details, the necessary 'facts' (among them much newly discovered material), sovereign in its generalizing interpretations, elegant in its presentation, and revisionist in its central thesis, this volume is a 'must' for anyone interested in tribal history.

Book Description
This IEA report provides a comprehensive in-depth assessment of the energy policies of Japan, including recommendations for policy development.
Since the last in-depth review in 1994, the two major themes in Japan's energy policy have been reform of the regulatory framework and measures to respond to climate change.
Energy sector reform in the energy sector is an important component of overall policy on economic recovery. Increasingly, the market will be relied on to achieve a satisfactory outcome. Independent Power Producers have entered the electricity market since 1995. The report analyses anticipated further reforms to liberalise the market for extra-high-voltage consumers (28% of all supply) and to introduce accounting separation of the activities of the existing utilities.
Approximately 90% of carbon dioxide produced in Japan is energy-related. Policy to reduce emissions from the energy sector is focused on drastic energy efficiency measures and on the promotion of nuclear power and "new energies". The review discusses the cost-effectiveness of present energy efficiency measures, but considers that the current nuclear energy production target is achievable.
This report forms part of a series of periodic in-depth reviews conducted by the IEA on a four-year cycle. Short reviews of energy developments in all 24 IEA countries (including summaries of the year's in-depth reviews) are published annually in Energy Policies of IEA Countries.
Book Description
A master historian's spirited survey of humanity's strategies for tapping sun energy, past and future.
We don't often recognize the humble activity of cooking for the revolutionary cultural adaptation that it is. But when the hearth fires started burning in the Paleolithic, humankind broadened the exploitation of food and initiated an avalanche of change. And we don't often associate cooking with drilling for oil, but both are innovations that allow us to tap the sun energy accumulated in organic matter.
Alfred W. Crosby, a founder of the field of global history, reveals how humanity's successes hinge directly on effective uses of sun energy. But dwindling natural resources, global warming, and environmental pollution all testify to the limits of our fossil-fuel civilization. Although we haven't yet adopted a feasible alternativejust look at the embarrassment of "cold fusion" or the 2003 blackout that humbled North Americaour ingenuity and adaptability as a species give us hope. 10 illustrations, map.
Customer Reviews:
Put's gas prices in perspective.......2006-08-30
All energy comes from the sun and we can't get enough of it. Can we ever get enough? There is a small chance we could -- if we get fusion {build a small sun that works here on earth) to really work for us. But don't count on it any time soon.
This is good short story of how we got to the point where we need something like fusion to appease our appetite for energy. Importing gasoline from India won't do it.
A little book with much to offer.......2006-05-12
There aren't many books written for everybody. This one fits squarely in that limited niche. After all, fuel, in one form or another, is a universal human demand. Since the science of energy use and climate change appears to miss many readers, Alfred Crosby has decided to lead readers along a smoother path. It's clear, as the fuel crisis grows more visible and corrective action is in such short supply, the more people understand what is happening, the better. Ignorance of our situation, in Crosby's view, is a major roadblock to prompting us to consider our options carefully.
In this highly readable account, he explains clearly our dependence on fossil fuels and the impact of that reliance. He lines out how human fuel use has progressed over the centuries. Our awareness of the true source of those fuels, our host star, came late. Almost too late. Our energy use has gone through a series of mighty jumps. At one time we used as much fuel as we could consume as food. From that balance we have progressed to using about 115 times as much energy as our ancestors did. How has this circumstance come about?
The sun, of course, is the foundation of all our energy. Ancient trees, covered over with layers of soil turned rock, became the coal foundation for industrial development. Ancient bodies through a similar process became oil, hence petroleum. Your electricity likely derives from those old trees, while your auto belches the last remains of those animal corpses. Even the replacement energy form of wind is solar driven. Nuclear power, especially the promised version of fusion, relies on our knowledge of mechanisms making sunlight. With oil manifestly running out, Crosby notes, more attention must be given to the alternatives. Throughout this account, the science underlying the author's message is manifest, yet he doesn't overwhelm the reader with its presence. The message remains that we must understand what underpins our energy gluttony and why it must be directed to new forms.
These new forms must be considered carefully. Crosby's major contribution in the discussion of energy and the replacements for declining oil and polluting coal is the costs of the alternatives. Hydrogen, so plentiful and clean, is expensive to produce and deliver. Nuclear fusion, once so promising, is a distant prospect. Crosby explains the fusion option perhaps better than any commentator to date. Atomic fission, already in place, has been beset by popular fears, yet is a major factor in France, which has run a safe nuclear programme for years. Nearly 80% of France's electricity is nuclear generated, while the US, the planet's overweening energy consumer, has barely achieved 20%.
He's forthright in his assessment of the issues, and vivid in his denunciation of our unconscious and unconscionable consumption. There are viable solutions, but we must be prepared to tolerate the costs and potential inconvenience of turning to them. We know how to make fuel-efficient engines, only the political will is lacking. SUVs must no longer be exempt from emission and economy standards. We must recognise our dependence on fossil fuels need not be so great. It is, Crosby argues, like a drug. Habits can be changed with a bit of effort. The alternatives are there to be tapped. He reminds us that we have endured change before. We can endure another if we but act. [stephen a. haines - Ottawa, Canada]
Excellent.......2006-03-24
Chock full of facts that you feel stupid for not knowing earlier. Provides a good basis for intelligent discussion of energy policy.
A Quick Gallop Through the History of Humanity's Quest for Energy.......2006-02-01
In less than 170 pages of lively and entertaining prose, the author presents what essentially amounts to the story of the human race: approximately from the birth of homo sapiens to today. The main theme around which this story is woven is the need for and use of energy. Starting with food (from hunting and gathering to agriculture) to power muscles, all the way to the more energy-dense fossil fuels to power steam engines and (later) internal combustion engines, and culminating with nuclear fission reactors and future prospects for nuclear fusion reactors, the author discusses humanity's quest for greater and greater quantities of energy. The book is well-written and in an engaging style. Although the reader may feel that the author occasionally seems to deviate from the book's main theme, it eventually becomes clear that he is not, but simply meandering his way along towards his original goal. Overall this is a very informative sweeping overview of humanity's quest for energy.
