A very good introduction to astrobiology.......2004-11-24

This is a well-written book. It's informative and easy to read, even for the layman. And it covers the main topics in the field: cosmology, stellar evolution, origin of the planets, organic molecules in space, origin and handedness of life's macromolecules, evolution and intelligent life, possibilities of life on Mars, Europa, and Titan, and extrasolar planets.

introducing my son to archery.......2007-09-16

This book is an easy read, about three hours from front to cover in a single sitting. The descriptions are easy to understand and appropriately simple; it makes sense at the reading, and even more sense at the range. I purchased this book in preparation to introducing my son to traditional archery while on Vacation in Montana. We were fortunate enough to not only find an extremely helpful archery store, but one of their customers agreed to coach my son for about an hour on the range. Everything he shared with my son was in the book. When we left the store Zane Smith recommended next training steps, again in this book.

This is not an advanced concepts book, though the bow tuning of arrows seems advanced to me, but hey I'm a rookie, right? In a few weeks time my son should be in position to start working on the accuracy exercises in this text, and I am very much looking forward to see how they improve his accuracy as at 10yrds his arrows are already nicely bunched, just not in the center of the target.

I would highly recommend this as an introductory text to traditional bow hunting for anyone interested in taking up this fun and challenging sport. This book has already kept a supportive father from spoiling his son's experience.

Long Bows & Recurves.......2007-01-16

In 1943 when I bought my first bow, I had a teacher that taught me basics. I moved from a yew long bow to recurves in the late 1950's and then archery went to compound bows, and to my taste, archery lost at least some of its tradition. My 52 year old son decided he wanted to learn again. I gave hime this book and a bow. For beginners it is a good place to start.

This book provides some very useful information that will help you get started in traditional archery the right way, while avoiding common mistakes that could end an excellent pastime prematurely.
Mr. Thomas' writing style is very easy to read and comprehend. He is quite skillful at making the various issues addressed in this book understandable.
I would recommend this book to anyone getting into or thinking of getting into traditional archery.

I'm a new person to archery and this book was just perfect. It had photo's and detailed everything I need to learn as well as what I needed to purchase. I would recommend it to anyone who's just starting out. Very good and easy to read!

The contradictions between the needs of the single state and the needs of Arab economic integration, Arab unity, and pan-Arab economic planning receive special attention. Alnasrawi develops the concept of derivative dependency, illustrating the extent to which the economies of the non-oil states are being affected by what happens to the economies of the oil-producing states. The final chapter presents a detailed picture of the forces that led to the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait and integrates the events of August 1990 with the main themes of the book. Arab economic development is addressed in ten chapters that cover the period from the first phase of Arab dependency during the Ottoman period, 1500-1800, until the present time. I never received either of the 2 books in this order; I was able to see by tracking that UPS says the order was delivered, but I never saw either. This is at least the second time that I have wandered around in your site and been unable to figure out how to direct a question/comment/PROBLEM of this sort to Amazon. A nice buy for both beginners and advanced student of botany.......2007-04-04

The book is mostly composed of dichotomous keys with a good section of very nice photographs of most commonly encountered plants, covering many genera. It is a sizable book for the field and covers the SF Bay Area really well. The only thing I have to complain is that is doesn't have species descriptions and more pictures, but these are probably out of the scope of this book. It is a great buy and I do highly recommend it.

An excellent reference book for the Bay Area........2007-01-11

If you're into plant identification and you live in the Bay Area, this book is essential. Many of the keys are far easier than Jepson or Munz, and there is the enormous benefit that plants that don't grow in the Bay Area aren't there in the key to confuse you.

People who use this book should know that it is in some ways a work in progress. I took a class with Ms. Beidleman in 2006 and she frequently told us to cross out or re-word certain passages in the keys that were misleading. I don't think she has an estimate for when a new edition may come out--it could be a ways off.

This books is essential to botanists in the San Francisco Bay Area! For both the experienced and the amateur, this book is a useful guide to identifying common plant species of the region. Much more concise and specialized than the Jepson Manual, plant identification has gone from a time consuming chore to sheer pleasure. Brilliant color plates add interest and aide in identification. Authors Kozloff and Beidleman have extracted the best aspects of botany texts to create a San Francisco Bay Area biologist's dream!
