              Book Description

The persona that Czanne created for himself in his first decade as a painter contributed to critical dismissal of his early work as the chaotic and emotional outpouring of an unbridled imagination. Subsequent scholarship, both formalist and psychoanalytical in orientation, has tended to sustain this view of the unique and powerful body of work created before Czanne's introduction to Impressionism in 1872. Mary Tompkins Lewis here assesses Czanne's first works as a whole, with particular emphasis on the subject paintings, and demonstrates their stylistic and iconographic coherence.

                Book Description

The 1996 Summer School of the European Astrophysical Doctoral Network dealt with the atmospheres of stars, the various theories that describe their structure and the interactions with the interior of the stars as well as with the interstellar environment, and the observations that support, modify and sometimes contradict these theories. This volume aims to provide the reader with an insight into problems related to stellar atmospheres both for cool and for hot stars. Furthermore it offers opportunities to deal with modern technologies in analysing observational data versus theoretical modelling.

A good little book with a lot of information at a very good price.

                      5 out of 5 stars This is a keeper!.......2006-03-26

This book along with, "The Gun Digest Book of Exploded Gun Drawings" was given as a gift to my son who, with his brother, is a novice hunter, with a beginning interest in gunsmithing. They have acquired a number of shot guns and rifles and found this book matched their needs exactly. They found this book fascinating and were so excited. Clear, helpful, detailed and would appear to be valuable for both the beginner and serious firearm enthusiasts. They have put it to practical use - so easy to use! These books have not been relegated to the library or reference shelf yet and as reluctant as I am to say it, they remain in the bathroom, so are read and reviewed almost daily and I don't see that changing anytime soon. They can't say enough good things about the book -
                      THIS IS A KEEPER!

4 out of 5 stars Good Shotgun reading.......2005-10-07

Yet another good reading for the beginner, or for someone who specifically onws one of the shotguns in the book. As I have said in another review, I would like to see Gun Digest publish another volume with newer production shotguns in addition to this book. All in all, very good, worth reading.

3 out of 5 stars The Gun Digest Book of Firearms Assembly/Disassembly.......2005-09-25

This reference book contained the information I was looking for and will be a book that I can rely on for many years. The only problem I found was that some pages were almost to dark to see breakdown components. A better breakdown sequence would be helpful. All in all the book was helpful and I was able to realize the problem I was having in reassembling a Winchester Automatic 12ga, shotgun.

                      5 out of 5 stars "magnum" opus.......2004-10-18

There are a LOT of shotguns described in this book. If you need a bench reference on how to disassemble a BROAD variety of guns this is the book for you. A non-gunsmith myself, I would have prefered something with more tips/tricks or theory that would allow more expression for my own mechanical aptitudes, hopefully resulting in the better functioning of my shotgun. This is not the book for the discussion of why your gun does not feed consistently, nor why you use so many barrel seals. Instead this is more of a no frills, paint by the numbers, race through taking apart and putting together a myriad number of dissimilar models (with an index of other guns that are similar, or variants) that cover the entire spectrum of shotgunnery. I gave it five stars because the pictures are quite clear and if you are stuck half way through the reassembly of an unusual shotgun, your answer may well be in here.

Despite the drizzle and my tendency to shove the map in my pockets only to retrieve it out again every few blocks, the map endured and I plan on using it again. I'm a big fan of Lonely Planet's city maps. They are useful and tend to have the major landmarks clearly labeled. In fact, found myself surprised how much of Frankfurt I explored because I felt as if I could easily find my way back to my hotel.

                      Book Description

Tyler Stewart knows he’s going to be a television star. He’s funny, and his uncle Pete is a writer for the most popular show on TV. Best of all, Tyler’s parents have just sent him to visit Pete in Hollywood. Talk about luck—no more of his mom’s worrying and his dad’s instructions, for the rest of his summer vacation. Everyone in show business needs a break, and Tyler is sure this is going to be his.

Now Tyler has two weeks to land an audition and impress the sitcom’s moody star. First he’ll have to learn everything there is to know about life on the set, from navigating the food cart to breaking a story. And that will mean spending as much time as possible at the studio—despite his parents’ objections. With the help of his new friend Samantha, Tyler’s dream just might become a reality. But the road to fame is paved with surprises, and the part of a lifetime is sometimes the one we least expect. . . .

5 out of 5 stars Middle School Son Loved this Book.......2004-02-08

My middle school aged son picked this book to read for a book report. He's somewhat of a reluctant reader so it can be a challenge to find a book that really draws him in. This book did it! It's the story of a 6th grade boy, named Tyler, who is visiting an uncle who writes for a popular sitcom. Tyler feels that this is his chance to break into showbiz. The author of the book has been a television writer so I'm sure it's an accurate description of life behind the scenes.

                        Book Description

As interpretive research perspectives become increasingly influential in many fields of social science research, so it becomes more important for experienced researchers to become familiar with the philosophical perspectives, data gathering techniques and analytical methods that derive from interpretive research.

This book draws on these interpretive traditions to illustrate precisely how they can be applied to research projects for first-time researchers in the fields of management, marketing and consumer research. Offering many practical examples drawn from existing studies and suggesting new topics for consideration, this book brings together major themes of interpretive research within a practical guide to researching and writing a research project.

Suitable both for the first time researchers and those with more experience, this is an ideal guide for anyone undertaking research in this area of study.

                            Book Description

Brown and her colleagues offer an unprecedented analysis of how multinational corporations and developing countries manage, in the face of differing values, to relate as each proceeds in the interest of particular development objectives. Through three case studies involving Du Pont Agrichemical, Occidental Chemical, and Xerox and the countries of India and Thailand, the authors illustrate how the differing values of the host country and the corporation influence decisions. It offers valuable insights into the anatomy of decision-making in a highly sensitive and increasingly scrutinized segment of contemporary business. This is a particularly timely examination of multinational enterprises, of the impact of corporate cultures, sustainable development, hazard management and environmental issues seen in relationship to developing countries' values, needs, and objectives.

                              Book Description

Just as the crash of 1929 did not presage the downfall of the United States, neither will the economic crisis of 1997 mean the end of the rise of Asia and the Pacific Rim. Leading them out of a temporary setback, says Bullis, will be the new high-tech sectors of their economies: information services, communication technology, and electronic delivery systems such as e-commerce and e-business. His book is thus a non-technical look at the state of information technology (IT) and how people in the emerging Asia marketplace are thinking about it, especially in places like Singapore and Malaysia, the only two countries in the region pursuing the sorts of large-scale information infrastructure projects that will eventually determine the region's long term commerce in IT. Not a state of the technology book but a "state of the mindset book," it offers businesspeople worldwide an important understanding of this vast and burgeoning market for their products and services, insights that will help decision makers recognize the big mistakes they can make before they make them. An important and fascinating study for executives in all industries that hope to do business in the still vital Asian market. Bullis makes clear that a great deal of investment money and corporate prestige can be wasted if companies attempt to enter the Asia information technology (IT) services arena with no clear idea of what IT wants. Overseas firms often assume that their potential clients think the way they think and have the same needs. This is especially true, he says, with the sorts of decision makers who assume that marketplace forces alone condition investment decisions. But Asia is not a marketplace; it is a "cultureplace." Basic issues, such as freedom of expression, the social utility of information, who should benefit from commerce, and the structure of organizations--all these are viewed differently in Asia. Bullis' book explains just what the mindset of the region is, largely in the words of Asia's IT movers and shakers and those who are rising in the economy to become tomorrow's leaders and influentials, precisely the people with whom their counterparts elsewhere will soon have to deal. Readers will find not only a much better understanding of the kinds of services they should be offering, but how to tailor those services and their delivery systems to local realities.

1 out of 5 stars This book is out-of-date........1999-09-12

Although published in 1999, the facts in this book is either out of date or inaccurate. It is not worth the buy.

                              1 out of 5 stars Inaccurate facts!.......1999-05-06

Although this book is published end 1998, it has many inaccuracies, especially the efforts of Malaysia's Multimedia Super Corridor. The author got many facts wrong, and he tends to be very negative of the situation. I think the contents will not give Westerners a correct view of the situation.

1 out of 5 stars Do NOT buy or read this book!.......1999-04-26

If only there was a choice for zero-star rating, I would have given this book what it really deserves. Bullis is so biased with his views on Malaysia's IT efforts, blinding readers with his politically-insighted views. He must have a personal vendetta against Prime Minister Mahathir's policies, and resorted to discredit him further with his biased writing. This book is total blasphemy and one-sided - so much that one might tend to believe that it was the Singapore govt engaging Bullis to discredit Malaysia. Bullis was inaccurate in his views and readers should not take them into consideration. In fact, DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK AT ALL. If you want to get a fair view on doing business in South-East Asia, go read some other book.
