Although studies show that a negotiating behavior is usually the best response to a conflict situation, negotiation is a difficult endeavor-one that requires considerable skill and thought. The Dealing with Conflict Instrument (DWCI) will help change this by encouraging conflicting parties to shift to a more collaborative style in order to find and pursue shared interests, creating a win/win outcome.

The Dealing with Conflict Instrument presents five conflict-handling styles. The five styles; accommodate, avoid, compromise, compete, and collaborate, encompass all the effective ways of dealing with conflict. By completing the Dealing with Conflict Instrument-Self, participants will learn about their own natural style tendencies, while the information gathered from the DWCI 360-Degree Feedback set will give them insight into how they are perceived by others when resolving conflicts. The combined results of these assessments indicate which styles of conflict resolution need the most improvement.

Participants will explore the characteristics of each conflict-handling style which will help them develop greater style flexibility. In order to decide which style is best in a given situation, they will learn to dissect situations, using Conflict Situation Analysis.

I only have one world for this book. DEADLY!

Terribly outdated and dangerous........2001-09-20

I cannot fault the intent of Vriends since I do not know him personally, but this book has caused me as a hedgehog rescuer no end of difficulty. This book -- and others -- recommend things that are terrible for hedgehogs. Cedar shavings, as another reviewer noted, are recommended by this book. The aromatic oils from cedar shavings can cause respiratory failure in hedgehogs and other complications. It gets worse from there.

The novice hedgehog owner is not going to pick up on these inaccuracies or errors, and that means that because of this book, hedgehogs are going to receive poor care. If you want a better book, try Dawn Wrobel's The Hedgehog: Owner's Guide to a Happy Healthy Pet OR try doing some research on the Internet instead, where the information is frequently peer-reviewed and kept more up-to-date than in a static publication.

This book almost killed my hedgehog! Don't buy this book!.......2000-07-26

This is a good book for anyone who is planning on reading other books on hedgehogs besides this one. It provides basic information that is neccesary to know. However it stops there. There is nothing extraordinary about this book. Plus some of the information is wrong. By following the directions in this book, I almost killed my hedgehog.

Nicely presented but not all correct!.......1999-11-20

The more I got into the book, the less it reminded me of the prickly critters I have grown to love. Much of his information is incorrect (the usage of cedar shavings, the 'nausea' sections, etc) and the rest seems to be based off of his observation of African Pygmies in the WILD. Appearantly our domesticated pets behave a little differently. An alright book in general, but you need to discern the good from the bad and that may not be too obvious for the new hedgehog afficionado.

This book was great when I got my chin. I consulted it all the time for very basic information. However, it does not have enough info on illnesses. It is simple and easy to understand but I definitely recommend getting an additional book for more detailed info.

The barrons book on chinchillas is a very short beginner book that has nice pictures. However, the book has little more than just the barest of information, nothing on diseases, and very little other than general information. The suggested cage is constructed of wood and since chinchillas are chewers, it is a poor choice of frame for a chinchilla cage, although it would work for a rabbit. This book told me everything I needed to know about hamsters. It includes how to select a hamster, how to handle a hamster, what to feed and buy them, how to breed them, and much more! It even includes the history of hamsters, like when and where they were first found! I definitely recommend this book to whoever is planning to buy one of these cute companions.

Exactly what you would expect.......2001-08-03

This is essentially a map of the Moon that closely resembles a state road map. It has a reasonable index and labels the major features. It doesn't try to identify everything you could see with a large telescope but it is useful tool for the average binocular observer, a viewer with a small telescope or for a classroom wall.

Photographer Raymond Klass has done an outstanding job of capturing the beauty of Mammoth Cave National Park both inside the cave and out.
It is the best photo book ever published on the park.
The reproduction of the over 100 color photographs is outstanding.

This book was excellent with helping me realize common traps in a consumer driven world. Advice presented was straight forward and easy to understand. The examples used are relateable and can be applied to anyone's situation. Finally, a debt book for anyone that cuts straight to the point!

This is straight talking book from one of the leaders of the credit counseling industry without the trite, "Make more, spend less" approach that too many people seem to throw around these days. In fact, buying this book would be your first lesson in smart money moves; spend a little on this book instead of spending a lot on a bankruptcy lawyer. Reading this book is a lot easier work than struggling through the quagmire of bunkruptcy ads that you receive with a google or Yahoo search.

Springboard is a typical credit counseling company that passes itself off as a consumer friendly organization. Meanwhile, they are funded by the creditors. This book is basically a 200 page ad for Springboard's services and should not be bought. Save your hard earned money and do free research on the web. Credit counseling is looked at like a bankruptcy by most lenders and nearly every mortgage company. It's certainly something you don't want on your credit report.

Teriffic book for teens. I bought it for my son but I could not put it down.

This book is a bore..........2007-08-22

I bought this book for my teenage son as a summer read. He threw out the book after reading 70 pages without coming to a shark attack. After this I started reading the book and was hugely disappointed. The author seems to have just cut-and-pasted a lot of 1916 era trivia from archives of local newspapers and then threw in a couple paragraphs about shark attacks to make the book sell. On the other hand, if you want to learn 1916 era trivia this is a good book.

Amazing research.......2007-03-29

The author's detail in his research makes this book easy to follow. From describing the presidential vacation homes (Seven US Presidents are known to have vacationed on the Jersey Shore), the dress fashions of 1916, the pre-World War I fervor, the behaviors of the great white shark, and the overall ignorance of sharks we had back then gives this book a great backdrop. Beach goers were just then "taking it off" and strolling through the waters, and the author described the long, skin-fitting suits the men work resembling the blubbery outlines of the shark's favorite meal: the sea lion.

The book doesn't go into great detail of each attack, but of the reactions from the towns and mediafolk to each attack. "Sea Monsters" was still a commonality as we knew so little about sharks, proper first aid, and back in 1916 we didn't understand the true powers of the shark.

The author doesn't waste time describing people in this book who do not play a role in the shark attacks. After reading a few chapters one quickly knows that each victim is meticulously profiled; we then know that person will be the shark's next intended meal. This takes away from the suspense. The most gripping parts are the paragraphs describing the shark's tactics as it closes in on its prey.

I was living in New Jersey when this book was released and it was a sensation all across the state and in particular along the beautiful Jersey Shore. The towns described still stand--only Asbury Park is in ruins now--but the others like Spring Creek, Beach Haven, Sea Girt, Deal, Ocean Grove still profit from their beaches.

I do no recommend this as beach-side reading though. You just never know what lingers in those ocean waters!

Excellent book for elementary and middle school.......2007-01-09

What I liked the best is the descriptions of the shark attacks were detailed, but not graphic.

My son is into sharks at the moment, so this book was perfect. While it retells the story of the Great White Shark on our East Coast with lots os sequential details, there are enough "shark attacks" described to keep the kids interested.

We skipped around.

Pictures are boring, but we bought it for the shark attack retellings.

I enjoyed the book, as other reviews have mentioned, it is a good period piece about life on the Jersey shore in 1916. The author tried to touch a lot of bases and started but did not complete a lot of story lines. When I was finished, I found myself looking for another book about the events that would fill in some blanks.
