This book details the courage and persistance of the people who truly care for the world's food problem. They have discovered methods and published them for use by others thinking on the same lines.

The book details the Tohyamas attempts to produce food on sand dunes over which it is considered impossible to grow anything. It would have been a great help if the email addresses for these scientists are also mentioned somewhere, so that other people could contact them directly for help and joint venture projects.

The United Nations University project on People, Land Management and Environmental Change (PLEC) has used the traditional skills of smallholder farmers -- for cultivating their crops, managing the soil, water and vegetation and maintaining their livelihoods in difficult circumstances - to produce this book. Arguably, these farmers have conserved and even created more biological diversity and more economically important species than all protected areas combined.
The book draws on the experience of demonstration sites that are the farmers' own enterprises, combining superior production along with enhancement of biological diversity. It is based on work in 12 countries with more than 200 collaborating scientists and about 2500 collaborating farmers, showing how its authors perceive and quantitatively analyze agrodiversity, and how they work together with farmers.
This book will be of interest to all concerned with sustainable development, global change issues and participatory approaches to conservation with rural people.

Leave it to Charlie to find even more Pennsylvania streams! He even includes notable waters in NJ and Ny. This book gives you the opportunity to fish streams that don't get the pressure of some of the more famous waters. The author's cover waters large and small. The book is a bargain, and at retail price equates to 39 cents per stream! Try to find a guide for that.

One of the most interesting books I've read. It has been great for someone that has "cabin fever" this winter. I read about a different stream every night before bedtime. Great reviews on Pocono, Manada, and McMichael Creeks! J. Edwards

great book, another great addition to the series..........2002-03-08

"I Only Binge on Holy Hungers" adresses acceptance, foster care, and child abuse. Nancy Rue puts the subject manner in such a good way that the story and characters seem very real. Cheyenne's problems with her mother escalate to new highs when her mother writes her letters in the high hopes that Cheyenne will meet her. Meanwhile, Cheyenne is struggling with her crush on Fletcher L'Orange, and feels that she doesn't fit in with her close friends, the flagpole girls. She also feels as though she is having difficulty talking to God. As a result, Cheyenne feels as though she can't confront her problems and plans to run away.
A very, very good read. I would also recommend the first two books in the series.

I would recommend this book to teens girls or to parents of teen girls. It is a great plot and keeps you interested, but it is still good christian values through and through. My mom loves these books because she feels safe letting me read them, no inappropiate material. Many christian teen books are somewhat cut & dry, and always predictable, but this book has an unpredictable plot. I would recommend this and all of the raise the flag series books.

This book is by far the best in the Raise the Flag series, that I've read so far. There wasn't anything that I felt I should skip over like there was in the first two. Even though I haven't been tempted to shoplift or haven't experienced being a foster kid, I can definantly relate to the problems Cheyenne had in this book! As w/ the previous two books, this one definantly got me thinking about some good spiritual issues, and I think there's few books that have left me w/ a such a renewed interest in "growing in God" recently. I highly recomend it! =)

Engrossing story, don't miss it........2005-04-23

I read this book when it was first published and I have carried it around in my head ever since. My copy has "gone missing" and now intend to repurchase and read it again. I will always recall Anne's adventures warmly. Her statement about using the wind as a dryer has stuck with me. She is a remarkble woman.

Her first - WOODSWOMAN - just captivated me from the first page to the last. Then, every other book in the series - WOODSWOMAN II, WOODSWOMAN III - was like watching a movie. I couldn't wait to see what would happen next. WOODSWOMAN IV is the most exciting yet - her walk across Black Bear Lake in February through three inches of ice water over one foot of snow is riveting. The chapters about her German shepherd, Chekika, who was quadriplegic for two years, show the deep love the author has for her dogs. When James Herriot published his books, I didn't think anyone could come close to his writing. But, Anne has. I love her books as much as his!

Anne LaBastille has penned another riveting read recounting her adventures as an independent woman residing in the wilderness and as a wildlife biologist striving to protect the natural world. Quite frankly, LaBastille is my favorite writer - her life is fascinating and I marvel at her commitment and ability to convey the emotional pain of losing her beloved pet-companions. Her talented writing style allows the reader to experience the fear of death she faced when confronted by out-of-control, gun-wielding thugs while camping in a public wilderness park.
