Scripts and strategies .......2005-01-18
Allen collates both his previous volumes of collected Scripts and Strategies in Hypnotherapy together in this work. Many inductions are included and a few deepeners. Rightly, most of the work is concerned with the business of therapy itself. Many situation-specific ego-strengtheners are included, as well as sections on common issues such as pain management and anxiety. The ever-popular smoking-cessation, fear-management and weight-control receive large chapters of their own which I have found invaluable in my Central-Manchester, Wilmslow and Romiley clinics.
Previous reviews of the two separate volumes have always touted the scripts as off-the-peg verbatim scripts and frameworks around which to base a bespoke item for the client. However some of the scripts come over as a little too specific for undiluted use, causing me to go through with a pencil making notes.
Part eleven is entitled Therapy Strategies and includes tips for dealing with abreaction, age progression, re-framing, anchors etc. and each of these tactics is dealt with very well. However that is what they are; tactics (or gambits), not strategies. Therapeutic strategy involves various decisions such as "when is it useful to switch from a behaviouristic approach to a classic-dynamic one?" or "should I address the symptom or the cause (or both) in this particular case?" or "how can I most usefully model the direction(s) of causation between the different aspects of this complaint? " etc.
The majority of the scripts, allude to and reflect various strategies as, necessarily so, each script must be based on some paradigm or another. The only exception being the smoking cessation pages where the strategy and paradigm are discussed specifically, (e.g. Aversion vs. Coercion?)
Due to the name of the book, I expected to see some alternative potential conceptions of the nature of each presentation along with their respective interventions, but that's not what the book is all about. The formatting decisions of choosing a large font, and starting each new script on a new page, strongly hint at the book's ultimate purpose. It looks clean and is easily read allowing easy, quick access in the consulting room. After a short introduction to hypnosis it's just cover to cover useful scripts. An index would be welcome, as would be a more complete synopsis of each script, but ultimately the complete re-formatting of the two volumes of `Scripts and Tactics in Hypnotherapy' has made it much more convenient and better value. Now offering twice as many scripts per pound (or Dollar)!

It's to the point, tells you what you need to know without all the filler stuff. Lots and lots of scripts. This one is a keeper. Great information to the hypnotherapist. If you are not using this book in your office then get it. Everything that you need is in this book. I don't know were to start, it has everything for any kind of session and even some that I have never seen.

It is written by a male.....lots of the individual basketball player's feelings were not there.....I would of liked to hear about the feelings of the Crow people.....the facts however were very interesting.

The minute I picked up this book I could not put it down. Basketball is a large part of the Indian school systems and culture. This tells of the huge obsticles that Indians have to overcome to succeed and survive. I read this book at least once a year and am overwhelmed each time by the adversity that the Indian culture has to deal with. They are children with dreams but often do not have the environment and support they need to succeed and leave the reservation.
Season on the brink: Compelling, yet frustrating true story.......2006-01-16
Writer/journalist Larry Colton went to the Crow Indian reservation in southern Montana to write a magazine story on high-school basketball and discovered something else altogether: the life-and-death struggle of a native American culture struggling to survive in a world of poverty, alcolholism, racism and shattered family values.
The story is familiar to anyone who has spent time on the reservation or peeked behind the curtain of today's native Indian society beyond that presented by Hollywood or weekend tourist pow-wows.
Colton's first-person account revolves around a 17-year-old girl basketball player who stars on the court, but off it skips school, smokes pot and has unprotected sex with a 20-something loser who couldn't care less about her -- or anything else, for that matter.
Sharon LaForge is a reluctant anti-hero, who takes the reader on a roller-coaster ride split between periods of pulling for her to succeed and hating her for wasting every opportunity that miraculously manages to come her way.
Every time the reader wants to give up, turn their back and walk away from Sharon as a lost cause, she does something to pull them back on her side -- all of this transpiring, ironically enough, within the shadows of the monument marking Custer's Last Stand at the Little Big Horn.
This book won the Frankfurt eBook Award for Best Nonfiction Book and the Alex Award in 2001 and earned praise from the New York Times Book Review, Library Journal, Parade magazine, and Keith Olbermann, among others.
You can't go wrong here. Strongly recommended.

I think this book is for all ages. This is basicly about a young tennage girl who always wanted things her like any normal person but her dad would always stand in her way. So in that case she would always try a way to get around him. So all Im tring to say is this book is great and I couldnt put it down. So go buy it because its so great!!!!!

The key take-aways from Sandra's book are valuable for anybody in the Customer Relationship space - which, today, is coming to mean everybody!
Sandra's book would make you get out of your company, act and think like the customers who buy your products or service, and make you discover the "value gaps" in your offerings.
A great example her book left me with is the idea of "smart cars": European customers who are buying cars are buying short-haul mobility, and the car sellers are in that "activity space". So you got to think about financing, of insurance, of helping with the servicing.
If a firm fails to provide these product/service pieces surrounding the activity space, the customer will perceive that value gap, and beware if your competitor thought about that before you!

The death of the New Economy has been greatly exaggerated. That's the message at the heart of Sandra Vandermerwe's new book. While the heady valuations of the late `90s are history, the fundamental changes that technology inspired during that time are here to stay. The final ring of the chain starting with two other books of the same author (" From tin soldiers to russian dolls " and " The eleventh commandment " ). These 3 books gives a comprehensive and multilateral understanding of the interactive processes with the customer (actual and potential ) . A rare example of complete and deep research

This book was totally uninspiring. If I had read the book before I signed up for the trip it chronicled, I would not be going to the Amazon. It should be removed from the IE list of recommended books!

If you plan to travel on one of the FLOTELS that operate out of Iquitos, this book will give you a pretty good idea of what to expect. It recounts much of what the guides will explain to you on your tour, and has some details of the Author's particular tour.
There are a bunch of factual errors in the book, which is annoying but not damning. I was hoping for a more detailed description of the experience from a more experienced writer. Instead it is a light treatment of the journey.
Well enough written and generally OK.

This is a fascinating read for aspiring entrepreneurs. But shhhhh . . . if word gets out of this secret world, this "amazon.com," it could ruin the magic.)
Good information, but..........2003-11-17
Most of us know something about the Brazilian Amazon. There is a lot to learn about the Peruvian Amazon, a wholly different environment. This book is another of Dick Lutz's natural history travelogues that mix his experiences on tours with abundant information about the natural and human history of the area he's touring.
It's hard to tell if these are pure books about the author's experience or a literary embellishment of the tour company's promotional material and Guidebook for Tour Guides. Readers will learn about the expedition on the tour company's boat-a journal about Our Experiences for the Folks Back Home-and the natural history of this precious rain forest environment. It's a combination of postcards to those who couldn't make the trip and a good high school course or college course in applied biology.
This book contains some pictures, with credits to the author's wife and to the tour company, but no explanations of what the pictures are. One gets the feeling of looking at a hastily-assembled scrapbook. If you're interested in what a tour of the Peruvian Amazon might be like, you'll gain some insights from this work.
GOOD FACTS, BAD WRITING.......2000-08-31
In preparation for a trip to the Peru Amazon, I purchased Hidden Amazon. The book has many useful tidbits about the Amazon and the immediate environs, but the writing style is so juvenile as to be off-putting. The shameless touting of one tour company grows old fast and one starts to wonder why one paid full price for a sales promotion. The photos are excellent, but not one has a description.
There must be better books about this area. I recommend you keep looking
