Book Description
This new book unveils a unique process called Unanimity Planning. Enlightened leaders have found it remarkably effective in bringing factions together -to "act as one" on resolving issues for the common good. Examples: action plans for economic opportunity and jobs, health care, education, community revival, environment , water resources, solid waste, business strategies, quality of life, societal problems. Nine real life success stories show the process works - and how. Quoting a town manager in the book, "the planning process brought people together who hadn't spoken to each other in years and got them moving in the same direction."
Customer Reviews:
An amazing process to reach concensus and bypass imediments.......1999-07-28
The unanimity planning process is a unique way of making people act on a RATIONAL basis to solve societal problems. Normal human emotional stances(wanting to have my own way) are encouraged to bring out the underlying fears and concerns. Every person in the group is tactfully forced to join the discussions. The book describes successful applications in diverse situations.
I have successfully used this process three times. When faced with intractable positions of the regulatory agency and my staff, the unanimity process resulted in amzing concurrence on mission statements, goals and objectives. The frame work plan was very effectively implemented.
Any one faced with developing an IMPLEMENTABLE action plan (for improving education, economic development, water, waste water or solid waste management, telecommunications, siting facilities etc) should read this book if they want to avoid the usual and ever present pitfalls. It is also well written and easy to read.

Book Description
Landscape ecology as a modern interdisciplinary science is increasingly making use of quantitative research techniques adopted from other fields. Until now, no synthetic reference has been available to those wishing to acquaint themselves with new approaches to quantitative analysis of spatial heterogeneity at the landscape level. This book seeks to meet this need by providing a conceptual framework and illustrating potential applications for methods such as pattern analysis, spatial statistics, fractals, spatial modeling, broad-scale studies, and extrapolation across scale. Each technique is discussed in sufficient detail to be adaptable to a variety of research problems.
Quantitative
Methods in Landscape Ecology will be an important resource for researchers and students of landscape and ecosystem ecology, as well as related areas of geography and biology, in understanding and analyzing the dynamics of complex spatial systems. ^

Mia Hamm, star of the U.S. National Soccer Team, Olympic Gold Medalist, World Cup champion, and five-time National Player of the Year, has a simple take on her talents that also explains her success: "Many people say I'm the best women's soccer player in the world. I don't think so. And because of that, someday I just might be." That's what's so appealing about Hamm as a role model, and it's the inspirational message at the heart of her autobiography. But Goal is only in part about herself--"There is no me in Mia," she suggests. Sure, she tells the story of the Army brat who rose to international stardom, but her book is really a pep talk and soccer instructional aimed at the hearts of the countless young women hoping to fill her enormous cleats. Mixing anecdote and opinion--she insists Kristine Lilly is the best player in the world, period--with lots of solid coaching and practical advice, Hamm breaks the game down into its essential skill components (trapping, passing, dribbling, shooting, heading, goaltending) and then addresses both the mental and physical aspects of the game in prose that talks up--not down--to her target readers. Photos (some to teach, some clearly to wow), diagrams (x's and o's of drills and plays), and tips from her teammates (Michelle Akers says, "There is a difference between a finisher and shooter.... The players who score tons of goals are the ones who can not only shoot but finish with deadly accuracy") help her cover the field, and Hamm scores additional points with the same contagious spirit she demonstrates every time she puts on her uniform. --Jeff Silverman
Book Description
"When I was playing, they said soccer was a man's world and that women should remain on the sidelines. All I can say is I'm glad I never had to go up against Mia Hamm."
-- Pelé
For the more than seven million girls -- from knobby-kneed tykes to high school and college stars -- who are tearing across the of country chasing a soccer ball and dreams of glory, there is one name that eclipses all others, male or female: Mia Hamm. With her cheetahlike acceleration and lightning-bolt shot, Hamm has broken nearly every record in her sport, while galvanizing a whole generation of fans and players.
Go for the Goal is not only the inspiring story of how a tiny suburban sprite became a global terror with a ball (and the world) at her feet -- it's also a step-by-step or dribble-by-dribble guide for any kid with the all-American dream of making the team and becoming a champion.
Filled with personal anecdotes and fully illustrated with both action and instructional photographs, Go for the Goal shows readers exactly how to master the silky skills and techniques that have made Hamm and her teammates the finest women's soccer team in the world.

Mia Hamm Tips.......2007-02-12
"Go for the Goal" is about Mia Hamm, one of the best soccer players in the world and about her struggles, difficulties, and accomplishments in her life. She helped lead the women's world cup team to a victory in 1999. She has faith that every one that dreams about being a soccer star, go for it! This is one of my favorate books not only because I play soccer competitively but because she has showed me some techniques and strategies she used to be an amazing soccer player. This book is interesting and factual about Mia life and could help change your idea about soccer.
Best book ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2006-05-04
This book is great for anyone who likes soccer and Mia Hamm. It has training tips, drills, and it tells a lot about Mia Hamm. I can't put the book down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i love women's soccer and mia hamm takes the cake. this book makes you feel like you're part of the game. the narrative is good and mia has put some personal and important photos in the book that you'll cherish as well.
for the soccer lover, run out and get it immediately!
super.......2005-05-10
super.
1. chapters on her ideas is just extremely inspiring
2. soccer tips are great.
Not that good.......2004-07-19
Personally, I found this really boring. I'm not really sure what I just read. I was kind of hoping that there'd be some personal insight because Mia Hamm is a facsinating person. When I finished I really wasn't inspired, or informed, or anything. I was just bored. There are better books out there, this one isn't really worth your time.

Customer Reviews:
Looking for a Little Mystery?.......2003-07-16
I had to read this book for an assignment in my children's literature class at West Virginia State College. I found this book to be an easy read and easy to follow the story line. I read this book in one day, not because I had to but because I wanted to. I would recommend this book to someone who likes a little mystery in their lives.
Reasons to like this book if you like the reasons.......2002-09-11
The 100th Thing About Caroline is a great book. You will really like it if you have ever mixed up something real with an idea from your imagination. You will also like it if you think some people look like dinosaurs. The number one reason I liked this book is because of the funny ending.
100th Thing About Caroline.......2001-05-04
Caroline Tate is an overly imaginative 11 year old that finds herself investigating a possible murder. The only thing is is that she and her brother are the potential victims. The story takes place in a small apartment building in New York City which is where Caroline found a letter. The letter was written to the " Mystery Man", Frederick Fiske who just happens to be dating Caroline's mother. The letter said that Joanna Tate ( Caroline's mother) is terrific, but the kids MUST be eliminated. The rest of the story is suspenseful as Caroline, J.P. and Caroline's friend Stacy investigate Frederick Fiske is really a cold - blooded killer. I enjoyed reading this book reading this & I recommend it because it keeps you guessing until the very end.
The One Hundredth Thing About Caroline Book Review.......2001-05-04
The One Hundredth Thing About Caroline is about a girl named Caroline Tate. Caroline is eleven years old. She is determined about being a paleontologist when she grows up. She lives in an apartment with, her mom and her annoying older brother James Priestly Tate (J.P.). Caroline's mom & dad are divorced so her dad lives somewhere else. J.P., Caroline and her friend Stacy Bauritcher who wants to be a detective, find a letter in the trash for Fredrick Fiske. It says to eliminate the kids, so he can marry the mother. Stacy finds out that Caroline and J.P. are the kids that will be eliminated. If you like mysteries PLUS adventure stories you should probably read this book!
Great book, but not like other Lowry works.......2000-11-05
I found this book a page-turner which you cannot put down. It was funny, yet I felt it did not have some of the charm in Lois Lowry's other series, about Anastasia Krupnik. It is a book I would recommend, though, but somehow Ms. Lowry did not mix in that special ingredient she does for other books. It still is a wonderful book, so please read it. The Hundredth Thing About Caroline, though, has a hilarious plot, and intriging story.

Tip #1: Buy This Book.......2000-06-21
As a teacher, one learns to live on a modest salary; stretching the dollar becomes an art more than a science. However, this book provided me with ways to make even my most stringent budget seem like my cup had run over! Everything from trimming household bills to discounts at retail stores. It even helped me buy my first car for less than my husband bought his (and they're the same make/model!). A top-notch resource for the financially challenged or penny-wise!

Book Description
Economic sanctions have become an increasingly popular instrument of foreign policy. They have been used with increasing incidence to discourage or punish a variety of objectionable practices--such as terrorism, ethnic cleansing, nuclear proliferation, human rights abuses--by states and multilateral organizations such as the UN and NATO. Yet much controversy characterizes the debate about both the motivations behind the initiation of economic sanctions and the consequences following from their imposition. This collection of essays seeks to illuminate this debate through a combination of different methodologies and cases.

Customer Reviews:
Inspiring and AWESOME!!.......2007-02-27
I cannot give enough praise to this work. The Phillips writing style is a delight and the information, invaluable. I disagree with the below review that disliked the "magazine" format...I loved it! It added so much interest and human element to the book. I thought the bio's of some of the more prominent (and not so prominent) herbalists were incredibly inspiring.
The authors treat their subject matter with tender loving care. When one reads this volume you feel as though you are having a chat with a good friend. Michael and Nancy are humble but authoritative in their presentation of community herbalism.
No aspiring herbalist should be without this book! It is a must have for anyone who wants to serve their community (or family)in any capacity as an herbalist.
This book presents so much information that is relevant to not only the herbalist, but anyone who is interested in herbs in general.
The only thing I regret about this book is that I didn't read it 10 years sooner!!!
Excellent in both philosphy and infomative application.......2006-09-04
The ONLY complaint I have about this book is that it was done in a sort magazine format where your reading was interupted by bios of prominent herbalists, with the text of what you were actually reading continuing on several pages afterwards. I'm ADD and reading is one way I like to train my mind to stay with one thing at at time. This book aggravated the symptoms of ADD and kept me trying too hard to stay focused on actually reading the text of the book. Wonderful little tidbits and advice and oodles of quotable quotes, definitely worth the read if you are an herbalist of any stripe.
Beautiful, informative and invaluable!.......2005-11-30
The Herbalist's Way is the very best book of its kind. Packed with practical tips, heartwarming humor and a very real understanding of the powerful healing plants herbalists daily work with, Nancy and Michael have created an invaluable guidebook for both aspiring and veteran herbalists. This book is not meant to be an herbal, aspiring instead to speak to the practical, spiritual and philosophical aspects of beginning and maintaining the practice of working with herbs, as herbalist, wildcrafter, farmer and/or supplier.
I really couldn't recommend this book any higher, the writing style is accessible and down to earth, and the design, including profiles of those most involved in the herbal field, lovely black & white photography and gorgeous pencil illustrations, is outstanding. I only wish Chelsea Green had released a hardcover version!
Nancy and Michael own Heartsong Farm Healing Herbs and create/sell some of the best tinctures and syrups I've ever had the pleasure of using. Nancy is a former apprentice and student of Rosemary Gladstar, and speaks with the same conviction regarding both ecological conservation and the spiritual aspects of healing and herbalism. The Phillips have given all of us deeply involved in the plant world a great gift in this inspiring and informative text. Enjoy!
