Amazing Book.......2004-10-22

I have never seen anyone with more passion for dogs than Grandpa Harold. The man had an intense dedication to everything he did and the research and images used in the book are fabulous. Anyone with any kind of appreciation for terriers will want to see these absolutely beatiful pictures of smooths/wires. I can say because I have seen the work and time that went into this by a single man that this is truly a must have.

Excellent photographical record of Fox Terrier.......1998-02-07

I enjoy tracing the history of my dogs and being able to see the pictures of relatives taken while still in their prime. Research on all the kennels is very interesting for historical content. A MUST in your library for those seriously interested in the Fox Terrier.

As the title says, it's about racer's psychology and how to improve it, it covers many aspects of the human to help him perform better in racing.

As other Speed Secrets Books, it's well written with a lot of examples and illustrations.

I think racers who want to really accomplish in racing should get this book, and it's recommended to read the first books, and after doing some racing, this book should be read.

It's All Mental: What separates Good Drivers from Great Ones.......2004-10-01

In the olympics, studies have shown that those who practice mentally (visualization, psychology, self-talk, etc) as well as physically (actual physical training) do better than those who just grind it out on the training field.

In a sport where there is a fusion of man and machine, it is even more important to "Maximize Your Racine Performance" by adhering to the strategies such as what Ross Bentley has outlined.

If you're a driver who has reached a plataeu and can't seem to improve, there's a great likelihood that it's not more practice or track time that's needed -- but more mental practice. And that's cheaper, too!

Ross outlines great mental techniques in this book that are easy to follow, and very applicable to the sport of race car driving.

For a bigger picture on Mental Training, I urge to to also look at Ken Baum's The Mental Edge. Then make sure you have this book by Ross to have mental training specific to race car driving.

What a revelation! We have been told for years that our mind harnesses the power to overcome all. In Ross and Ronn's book, these principles are succinctly laid out with techniques and exercises directly related to race driving. I recognized many situations in my own racing and have used their exercises to improve my performance and confidence on the race track. This book is a must read for anyone in racing (or in life)who wants to ensure consistency. For those who think racing is all guts - you are missing the boat (or shall I say the checkered flag) by not reading this book! PS - They also have a wonderful seminar too!

Eye-opening "feet-on" guide to the City.......2000-10-18

This walking guide to San Francisco contains numerous historical and architectural tidbits of a variety well-suited for curious urban day-hikers. I've lived in San Francisco for three years and have walked by a great number of interesting buildings without noticing them until they were pointed out in this book. The text is organized into chapters devoted to neighborhoods, with (somewhat limited) information about lodging and dining and a walkable itinerary highlighting the most distinctive features of the area. Noteworthy are the chapters concerning the Victorian Painted Ladies of the Haight-Ashbury District and the excellent Mission District walk. A book like this is a fine way to get off the beaten path of San Francisco tourism and to see what the real neighborhoods are like.

The principal was Jonah's step father. Amanda was Jonah's friend since thay were little. Travis was a troublemaker and was Jonah's friend. Katherine was a girl who Jonah liked, but never had the nerve to ask her out. Emma was another girl who liked Jonah, and she was sending him notes. At the end of the book, Jonah and Emma went out with each other. In the middle of the book, Katherine asked Jonah out and he said yes. On their first date, they went with a group of people; the whole date became a disaster. Firstly, while Jonah was eating, he spilled soda on his pants. Katherine tried to help, but Jonah said no, and hurt her feelings. Then when they were playing laser tag with a bunch of their friends, Jonah couldn't find Katherine. The date thing all went down hill from there. Jonah found Katherine kissing his friend Travis. When the game was over he said that he wanted to leave, but he didn't tell them why. He said he was getting sick. The next day Amanda, his friend, came over to see how he was doing and to tell him what she had seen. She asked him if that was why he went home. Monday morning he arrived at school early and saw Katherine at his locker. Katherine gave him a note that said she was sorry that everything didn't work out and that it just happened. At the end of the day he had found another note in his locker, but it wasn't from Emma or Katherine. However when he opened it, there was no name.

In the late nineteenth century, controversy over the social ramifications of the emerging consumer marketplace beset the industrialized nations of the West. In France, various commentators expressed concern that rampant commercialization threatened the republican ideal of civic-mindedness as well as the French reputation for good taste. The female bourgeois consumer was a particularly charged figure because she represented consumption run amok. Critics feared that the marketplace compromised her morality and aesthetic discernment, with dire repercussions for domestic life and public order.
Marianne in the Market traces debates about the woman consumer to examine the complex encounter between the market and the republic in nineteenth-century France. It explores how agents of capitalism--advertisers, department store managers, fashion journalists, self-styled taste experts--addressed fears of consumerism through the forging of an aesthetics of the marketplace: a "marketplace modernism." In so doing, they constructed an image of the bourgeois woman as the solution to the problem of unrestrained, individualized, and irrational consumption. Commercial professionals used taste to civilize the market and to produce consumers who would preserve the French aesthetic patrimony. Tasteful consumption legitimized women's presence in the urban public and reconciled their roles as consumers with their domestic and civic responsibilities.

Informative yet a bit overwhelming.......2007-01-05

This is a good book, but I would not recommend for a beginner. The dicot' key is thorough, but as a new comer to identifying aquatic inverts it was a bit overwhelming. It has not been the easiest key I have used in my studies. My peers more adept in aquatic inverts were more at ease with the book.

Aquatic Insects Of North America.......2005-08-10

I am a fly fisherman who purchased this title to learn more about the aquatic insects in streams and lakes. I was very happy with the drawings (plates) in this book, but they and the text are a little above (graduate school level?) what most fly fishermen are looking for. The drawings are of insect parts, not the entire insect in most cases! What is helpful is the detailed description of the life of each insect, and what its behavior is and where it would be found in Lentic (lakes) or Loctic (streams) bodies of water. Before purchasing this detailed study of entomology, fly fishers should first read more practical titles such as "Caddisflies" by Gary Lafontaine, "Mayflies - Top to Bottom" by Shane Stalcup, or/and "Matching Mayflies" by Dave Hughes. The great thing about Aquatic Insects Of North America is that in this one text, it covers completely all of the insects fly fishermen will need to know...just put on your PHD hat before reading it. It is spiral bound and well indexed by families!

While designed for the generalist working in the area of macrobenthic taxonomy, "An Introduction to the Aquatic Insects of North America" stands as one of the classics in its field. Nine orders of aquatic insects are classified, generally to the level of genus. Some information is provided about collection, preservation, phylogeny, ecology, respiration, and developmental biology in the introductory chapters. Each key to the individual Orders contains additional information specific to that Order. All of the keys are extensively referenced to illustrations. Each section is supported by an extensive bibliography. The section on the Diptera is subdivided to cover the major families individually. The spiral binding allows the book to lie flat while the user manipulates specimens under the microscope - an under-appreciated bonus. Some of the keys are a little buggy, but this is a 'must have' for aquatic entomologists of all levels of expertise.

This book is very technical, but it is a fantastic book for identifying insects. Probably the best.
