This book is primarily a practical guide for observers with normal or giant binoculars, or "richest-field” telescopes, who wish to get the most out of their instruments. Apart from that, it is also a readable, well-illustrated book for "arm-chair observers”. The central point of interest is wide-field astronomy – areas of the night sky that are particularly rich in objects. The Milky Way itself is the ultimate "wide-field” object and therefore its general features and the regions rich in clusters and nebulae are described. A chapter on clusters emphasizes open clusters best viewed in binoculars followed by a chapter on large but faint nebulae invisible to standard telescopes but visible to binoculars. The last chapter deals with fields in which groups of bright galaxies can be seen. The full-page color and black-and-white photos are one of the best features of this book and make it appealing to the general reader. The practical observer is shown exactly where objects are with respect to one another.

This is perhaps one of the most important books I have read as a coach. It was very concise and offered excellent suggestions. It was written to I could relate and the players will be able to relate. I am going to implement this book as a preseason tool to better develop leaders and team chemistry. This book will be very thought provoking and bring alot of things out that normally wouldnt have been thought of.

The step by step process is excellent and really makes alot of sense. Jeff Janssen did a great job with it, I just wish it wasnt so expensive...

My leadership guideline!.......2004-04-29

I know how important leadership is to the success of any group and yet I didn't have a methodical, clear and consise way of teaching the players/leaders on my team what it takes and what it means to be a leader. I used this book extensively this past year and it is the first time that I felt our team leaders had the information they needed to be effective....and they were! Jeff's book will be used by my program as long as I'm a coach.

Too many mistakes like wrong area codes and bad driving directions. Other than new courses, text borrows on old language of previous editors. Disappointing!

Pretty much the same format as earlier editions, but different editor with mistakes and omissions...pretty lame update. Lots of information, but too bulky to be convenient, and don't trust all the driving directions. Take a pass on this one.

Hey! Wait a minute!.......2002-03-11

I bought the book like I've done five times before and it's missing stuff. Like the bullets that tell you if the course has a driving range, rentals, accomodations. etc. It also has a different way of mapping the courses which makes it a little easier to locate a course but since the maps are divided up on seperate pages you can't tell where it's at in relation to something you might recognize.
Buy an earlier version if you can find it because this one has nothing over the older ones.

The 84th installment in the Contemporary Studies in Economic and Financial Analysis provides a fresh perspective on the economic development of Columbia. The articles that comprise the edition take a look at how Columbia's economy has been opening up and becoming more like a classical liberal market. The book takes several perspectives and does an excellent job on showing how the microlevel is impacting the country along with the relatively good management of the macroeconomic sector. While ISI was experimented with it was quickly stopped and the debt crisis of Latin America really did not effect Columbia. The economics of crime have been a factor impacting the country and the high level of drug use is a concern and a problem. The drug use has a direct correlation to violent crime and drug use in Columbia is very high even compared to OECD countries. The book is very well done and highly recommended for those who want to gain a sense of how Columbia's economic development has gone over the last twenty five years.

I look at my yard in a completely different way after reading this book. I learned a lot, laughed a lot, and shared many portions of this book with my family (my 9 year old loved it, and the phrase "in my backyard..." has a whole new meaning). I no longer resent my weeds in the same way, appreciate my crows, and am trying to plant more native plants with an eye toward the other creatures that share my space. As a scientist, I'm thrilled that so much information is present in clear, personal, and entertaining writing. This book has changed my life - corny but true...

Ms. Holmes conveys the spirit and joy of the true scientist in writing about her backyard biosphere. Carefully researched and referenced, this fascinating story is sure to inspire the reader to examine and appreciate their own surroundings.

I would highly recommend this book for anyone even slightly interested in ecology, the environment or science.

Extremely Interesting!.......2006-08-12

I must admit I picked up this book because of the cover. However it was a fun read. I am currently taking an ecology class and this book made such an interesting companion. Holmes writes about seemingly boring topics (at least to the type that don't really enjoy science) and make it interesting. My friends are probably slightly annoyed about hearing the fascinating details of pill bugs and crows. It's a fun read, though at times it can be a bit slow, pefect for nice summer days outside.
