Numerous experiments and calculations have shown that isolated metal clusters possess many interesting features, quite different from those known from surface and solid- state physics or from atomic and molecular physics. The technological exploitation of these new properties, e.g. in miniature electronic or mechanical components, requires the cluster to be brought into an environment such as an encapsulating matrix or a surface. Due to the interaction with the contact medium, the properties of the clusters may change or even disappear. Thus the physics of cluster-on-surface systems -- the main subject of this book -- is of fundamental importance. The book addresses a wide audience, from the newcomer to the expert. Starting from fundamental concepts of adsorbate-surface interactions, the modification of electronic properties through electron confinement, and concepts of cluster production, it elucidates the distinct properties of the new metallic nanostructures.

Brad's book is very helpful if you're a player or a coach. I share bits and pieces of his strategy with my high school team and their mental approach to the game has improved tremendously. Brad touches on every aspect of the game and gives you reasons why you should do certain things. I would highly recommend this book to everyone.

It's a part of the game I never knew existed when I played competitive tennis. I read it several years ago when it came out, and it's stuck in my mind.

Any great player can win at the top of his game. It takes a champion to be able to win ugly. It's Emmanuel Lasker's style of chess ... fight by making the opponent play the game he's least comfortable with instead of insisting on winning with your game when it's not at its peak.

This is, without any doubts, this is the best book I have ever read on the mental part of the game. Brad, one of the best coaches in the world today(he has been coaching Agassi since he fell to #141 and now he is #2 in the ATP ranking). His strokes were ugly and so was his style but he kept winning all because he was tough mentally. This book explains every aspect of the game from a mental point of view. Read it, and believe it!

Desperate attempt at an enviormental message........2005-01-04

Edward Packard tried to cover a wide range of subjects in his books and this one is one that tries to convey an enviornmental message.

While visiting your uncle's farm you find that while climbing a hill several hours pass without you remembering them. This leads to the discovery of either an alien egg which you can hatch and raise or you could even end up on another planet.

The alien race is a race that survives off of pollution and seeing as earth is becoming over polluted they believe it will be the perfect spot to inhabit... just as soon as humans bring the right conditions.

If you read it for the enviornmental message you'll most likely be dissapointed. It doesn't really tell a good message and is just wierd. However, it does help to show that different species can work together for the greater good.

I like this book because they encounter new life and find the peaceful Balayns. But the Cretians are bad. I can't belive they like polluted air!
