Yosemite Dreamin'.......2001-07-08

If you've ever been to Yosemite National Park or are thinking about going, this book will appeal to you. It was given to me as a gift when I moved from the Yosemite area. Now, all I have to do is open one page to be transported back to the "Valley of Thunder".

I chose the title of this book review for my website long before I knew how poignant the words would be. Even though I'm enjoying my new geographical location, the book helps to fill those moments of nostalgia.

Ann Zwinger's well-written text is evocative of my every Yosemite memory and Kathleen Norris Cook's breathtaking photography truly does justice to the magnificent scenery to be found in the Park.

If you're able to find a copy and purchase it, don't just put it on your coffee table, read it!

i teach mountain biking skills clinics and i have found that this book is an excellent tool in teaching all levels of mountain bikers - beginner to pro. it is a very well written, fun to read, and highly detailed book that will help you overcome your current obstacles and help you to ride the drops you never dreamed you could.

Comprehensive and concise..........2007-08-08

As a rider starting from the bottom, this book makes it that much easier. Has all the answers you've been searching for in one location. The pictures in the book are useful in visualising the words and concepts, without detracting from the actual information.

Very well organised book, and easy to find the information you want. Which comes in handy when you want to refresh your memory on certain aspects.

Now its just a matter of hitting the trails and practicing.

By far the best book I have seen about technique in MTB. Actually, you can forget about the rest of the manuals out there that describe without much idea how to "do it". Read about it and... do it!

Good...but not what I was hoping for.......2007-06-13

This is a good book, but it is a bit week on specifics of various techniques. It does have an element of unconscious competence coming through which is frustrating for intermediate riders like myself who need to be taught step-by-step.

It has great pictures but again some of the illustrations (e.g. big drops etc) don't really apply to anybody less than advanced riders, which makes it difficult for us intermediate riders to learn from.

Mountain bike is a new sport so accumulation of knowladge in this field is not so much. With this book learning very valuable techniques from a champion is easy and possible.

Useless Guide Written By An Arrogant Jerk.......2007-05-22

My wife and me are planning a trip to Puerto Plata in June so I purchased this book hoping to gain some useful information. What a disappointment! In fact, the author doesn't cover Puerto Plata (or Playa Dorado and the other nearby tourist areas) at all, saying only that the city was ugly and should be avoided by everyone. This will probably come as a bit of a suprise to the many people who enjoy vacationing there. It is, after all, the second most visited location in the country after Punta Cana.

The other problem is that the author comes across as an elitist snob of the worst kind. The book starts off with him whining about how tough it is to be a travel writer because he has to drive around to different cities and visit different hotels instead of being able to just lounge by the pool. But, of course, he does enjoy getting to brag about his travels later on at the fabulous cocktail parties he attends. He then goes on to complain about how corrupt and poverty stricken the Dominican Republic is, at one point referring to the country as a "banana republic." Hey, if you think so badly of the place then just go home instead of trying to make money by writing a travel guide. There are practically no recommendations for backpackers or others on a tight budget and he refers to all-inclusive hotels as "the bane of the Caribbean". Basically, he just discounts the vast majority of travellers as being too "low class" and instead focuses on the small number of luxury resorts he considers worthy of his "high class" tastes.

This guy is a joke and his lousy book isn't even worth the mere 6 cents (plus $3.99 shipping and handling) that I paid for it. Avoid!

In 1938 a 17 year old Tullis Yoder worries he will never ride a bull again after losing 2 fingers on his first bull ride. He also finds out his 13 horses (his only family) will be sold to make dog food. He travels by night with the help of a lady docter to steal all of his rodeo horses back. They are pursued by crooks, three sheriffs, a powerful judge, and a girl. It's a fast moving adventure for people who love adventure.

Really good book being the first i've read by Peck!!.......2004-05-18

This book was beautifully written from the sneaky plot and "stolen" girlfrind to the different points of view. Everything jumped out like I was really there.
The story begins with the orphan, Tullis Yoder, and the Big Bubb Rodeo show where he works as a stable hand. When the rodeo has to close down and Tullis realizes that the only family he's ever had (a.k.a. the 13 rodeo horses) are going to be slaughtered, he teams up with an old poker playing, card-cheating, horse-theif bum, who is temporarily in jail, and his accoplished daghter who's a doctor to save the 13 horses!!
