I received the book in excellent condition and a timely manner. I am thankful for the great service.
Ornamental Horticulture Science, Operations, and Management.......2000-11-01
This is a great book, I have it because it is used as a textbook for my Introduction to Horticulture class. It is easy to read and very informative for those just beginning to learn about this field. I enjoyed reading it so much that I read the entire thing cover to cover, even though the entire text was not required for our one semester class. I would recommend this book to anyone desiring to learn and enjoy the reading at the same time.

A great first reference.......2006-04-26
I am realtively new to the sport of lacrosse. My son is getting involved and I had volunteered to coach his team of beginners (first and second graders). This book was a great resource to the general rules of the game and techniques. I found the illustrations helpful and the practice games great.

Customer Reviews:
decent, but not great.......2004-01-09
Fodor's guidebooks are decent in that they provide short, simple facts and info on destinations. The Toronto guidebook is no different. The big complaint is the lack of good maps (though i can't be too picky, you can't really rely on maps in a paperback guidebook!). I tend to prefer frommer's guides, as i find their recommendations to be more bang on, and to my budget. I recommend using a combination of good guidebooks like frommers and Let's Go, in addition to the traveler-submitted hotel review sites like www.zoomandgo.com, or the ones on travelocity.
A fine book and great for first time travelers.......2001-04-25
I mainly use and still buy Fodor's series for most of my traveling for ease of use of the book and familiarity. However, I do have to admit that the maps could be more detailed. For budget or more seasoned travelers who prefer a detailed map of the walking tours and do not need the section about how to pack and where to keep your passport try the awesome Lonely Planet or something else. On the historical stuff, I would say this book is just fine. On my next travel (not to Toronto) I'll try Let's Go and Frommer's, heard lots of goody stuff about them and never use them before.
Reasonable city guide but mildly bland for Toronto........1999-07-03
This book begins with a short yet reasonable first orientation to the city with much of its bulk devoted to simple data in categorized lists.
Probably quite useful to someone who has never been to Toronto before but not the stimulating read the present-day "Megacity" deserves.
My personal impression was that while the guide does explicitly note the excitement of this new, diverse first city of Canada, it doesn't go far enough to actually capture or express it.
Yes, it is a fine book for what it is -- a city guide with lots of basic information -- but even there I had a couple of points of contention.
For one thing, as soon as I opened the book and saw the map of Toronto's location between Michigan and New York state, which I did like, I wondered, however, why one of the major freeways -- the 402 from Port Huron -- was left off.
Another example was the piece of information connecting Canada's federal official French-English language policy and highway signs. One has nothing to do with the other since traffic signs, regulations and highways are totally under Provincial not Federal jurisdiction. What concerned me here was the thought of visiting drivers getting the impression that driving regulations might be consistent throughout Canada.
It seems like the book is primarily targeted to Americans. If I am correct, Americans already know that Toronto is a new, big and exciting city before they even bother to pick up a book on it. The city guide which describes Toronto deserves to be a lot more motivating than that level of excitement which Fodor's standard format relegates to it's run-of-the-mill city guides.

Ruby used to call her 12-year-old daughter Pearl her "little gem," but Pearl knows better. If she were really "a gem," her mother wouldn't have dumped her at her aunt Ivy's house in Georgia and driven off into the dust. Once Pearl realizes her mom didn't just run to the 7-Eleven for cigarettes, she reluctantly settles in, warily observing her generous, loving Aunt Ivy--half-hoping her crazy, irresponsible mother comes back soon and half-hoping she never comes back at all.
Rural Georgia offers few distractions for a girl from Tallahassee, but Pearl does meet the strange Moonpie, an 11-year-old boy with transparent skin and cantaloupe-colored hair who lives in a ramshackle house with his dying grandmother Mama Nell. With the help of Aunt Ivy, Mama Nell, and Moonpie, Pearl stitches together clues to her own identity as she learns about her grandparents and her own mother who everyone says "had the devil in her." Pearl is the spitting image of this "devil girl." Does that mean she is fated to repeat her mistakes?
Thanks to Barbara O'Connor's clean, honest prose, readers will fully identify with Pearl's mixture of resentment and longing. What will happen if her mother never comes back? What if she does? There are no pat answers served up in this well-crafted, down-home, straight-talking story about the yearning for love. (Ages 10 and older) --Karin Snelson
Book Description
A girl abandoned by her mother discovers the feeling of family
Pearl's mother, Ruby, just up and left her with Aunt Ivy, who's a complete stranger to Pearl. "Your mama's done gone off the deep end," Ivy says, and Pearl wonders if she'll ever come back - Ruby has always been wild and irresponsible. So Pearl is stuck with Aunt Ivy, and Moonpie, the neighbor boy whose mother doesn't want him, either, and John Dee, Aunt Ivy's Beau. But these three people seem to fit together like a jigsaw puzzle, in a way that Pearl can't comprehend, and she feels left out. As she starts to understand what connects them, and how much she wants to be a part of it, Ruby appears.
With a vividly depicted setting, emotional truth, and a distinctly Southern voice, Barbara O'Connor shows how Pearl develops a whole new notion of what she wants, and what she deserves.
Customer Reviews:
wonderful writing.......2007-08-18
This is storytelling that climbs off the page right into your heart. The kind of book you want to sit down and read in one sitting. The writing seems effortless, but of course it's not, it takes real time and effort to write this well. Can't wait to read her others.
What I think about Moonpie and Ivy.......2005-10-29
It shows a difficult relationship between a mother and daughter.The daughter thinds that her mother selfish and everybody is suppose to feel sorry for her. As her stay if longer that she expected she got to know more things about her family and their past unlike her mother did. She was very surprised on how much her mothe lift our on their history. Pearl then sometimes thinks nigative about her mom and starts to send/not very respectful that were post cards.This story mostly takes place in a dry old country not much to like at much like a farm.Theres a girl named Pearl, her mother is thought to have "gone off the diip end" and they con't fiend her andy where. Pearl also lives with her Aunt Ivy. She takes pearl away to her hometown because some how she knewthather momwas not coming back soon, or did she? The main point of this story is is shows the characters going through a hard time. Also
Who loves you?.......2005-09-20
Moonpie and Ivy by Barbara O'Connor is realistically sad. The main character Pearl is left with her Aunt, whom she hardly knows, when her mother, Ruby, abandons her. Pearl and her Aunt Ivy consider Ruby's action as selfish.
While Pearl questions who loves her, how to love others, what love is, and how to be loved; she sees how Moonpie, an ugly neighbor boy, is loved by seemingly everyone. Hoping not to reveal the ending, many of Pearls questions are answered in this heart-wrenching realistic tale.
Sadly, children all over the United States are left with these same questions, when they are abandoned by their parents.
This book touched my heart.......2002-02-06
This is a beautifully written, heart-wrenching story with a mesmerizing Southern *voice* that I could read all day long! This is the story of Pearl when she is suddenly abandoned by her flighty, selfish mother to live with Aunt Ivy whom she has never met. Pearl tries to show that she doesn't care, but the author is very skillful at subtly showing the pain Pearl does feel. While staying with her aunt, Pearl gets to know the funny boy next door, Moonpie, who lives with his dying grandmother, and she comes to know what a family can be and the love that is possible. Even though her mother returns at the end of the book, she is still the same hurtful, oblivious person as ever. But Pearl is not the same person she was - and won't ever be again. Pearl's experiences have changed her inside and we know that someday she will carve out a better life for herself.
A fine story of family and friendships.......2002-02-04
When Ruby is left at her aunt's house, she thinks it's a temporary arrangement; but soon she begins to wonder if her mother will return. Her feelings of abandonment soften as she becomes used to an unusual boy, the love of an aunt, and the failings of her mother. A fine story of family and friendships.

Book Description
Consumer Behaviour is the first truly European consumer behaviour textbook, placing the subject clearly within its economic, psychological, sociological and historical context. The authors provide greater insight for readers by examining both the determinants and the consequences of consumer decision making. Antonides and Van Raaij include numerous examples, cases and sociodemographic data and provide complete coverage of core topics together with important new ones. Innovative chapters are included on:
* financial behaviour
* welfare, wellbeing and property
* families and household production
* consumption and the environment
* shopping behaviour.
The authors explore the full consumption cycle, not only the first stages of orientation and procurement, but also the usage and disposal of products. Consumer Behaviour is ideal for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. It will also benefit non-European students who need to gain a wider understanding of consumer behaviour. Marketers, market researchers, public relations officers and government officials dealing with consumer policy will also find it extremely useful.

Book Description
This book is dedicated to the implications of the new regionalism for global security and development. The fourth in the five-volume New Regionalism Series, it features contributions from the UNU/WIDER project on new regionalism.
Book Description
Newly revised and updated, this comprehensive field guide describes the four deserts of the American Southwest--the Great Basin, Mojave, Chihuahuan, and Sonoran--which together stretch into nine southwestern states and Mexico. The topography, geology, and climatic conditions of these arid lands set the stage for one of the most fascinating of ecological studies: the survival and adaptation of animal and plant life in the severe, often extreme desert climate and terrain.
Abundantly illustrated with line drawings, maps, charts, and diagrams, The Deserts of the Southwest offers both the outdoor adventurer and the armchair naturalist a clear and detailed portrait of this complex, beautiful, fragile wilderness.
Customer Reviews:
The Southwest Deserts Come Alive.......2000-05-13
We camped for a week in the Davis Mountains in west Texas in a section of the Chihuahuan desert last summer. This was not our first desert experience - we have hiked and camped across much of the Southwest over the last twenty years or so. This was an unplanned trip as we were headed toward southern Colorado, but we became fascinated by the Chihuahuan desert and somehow we never drove any further.
We were similarly quite lucky to find a copy of the first edition of Peggy Larson's Sierra Guidebook in a bookstore in Alpine, Texas. She presents the deserts of the American southwest (and northern Mexico) in a literate and educated fashion. She manages to discuss individual plants and animals in some detail while painting a large scale, beautiful portrait of the four major deserts of North America. Detailed ink drawings - landscape, geology, plants, and animals - are scattered throughout the narrative and add considerable value. She knows her subject and shares her knowledge in an intriguing fashion. She effectively uses scientific names of desert plants and animals interchangeably with common (but less unique) names without intimidating the reader. This is not a novel and it is quite possible to skip to selected chapters of personal interest, but I highly recommend exploring all chapters, all topics. Peggy Larson's style is really quite good.
If you are already familiar with the American deserts, you will find "The Deserts of the Southwest" a rewarding visit with an old friend. If you are somewhat new to the deserts and possibly have only sampled the deserts from a highway perspective, I suspect that after reading Peggy Larson's book you will likely change your travel plans to include a personal visit to an American desert.
