Great Campground Directory for Dogs.......2006-06-05

I have two large dogs and I camp alot. I have been turned away from a bunch of campgrounds because I have big dogs. Finally, I got sick of being turned away and I bought this book. It has a very large listing of campgrounds around the country that welcome dogs. I use it every time I head out for a week-end trip. Highly recommended!

Mostly for RVing. Not worth it if you are a true camper........2006-05-07

First off, the title should read "Rving with dogs" the book gives no advice for people who camp in tents or even a pop-up camper. (what I consider true camping) It is written for people with RV's or hitch campers. That said, most of the advice is impracticle for anyone who camps with a tent. For example, it's advice for leaving your dog alone is to make sure the air is on and a window is open. There is no advice about dealing with a dog around a campfire or an out-door stove. How to handle other pets at the campground or wild animals.

Secondly, the the book is 310 pages, but only 70 pages of the book deal with caring for a dog while camping. The last 240 pages are a list of "pet friendly campgrounds" by state. Which seems a waste since most campgrounds allow pets. ( actually I have never been to a campground that didn't allow pets, though I am sure they exist)

Next, the chapters on first aid and safety seem limited. There are much better books for this.

Finaly, If you are an RVer who pulls into a camp site and turns on the air and puts a casserole in the oven, this book might be for you. If you are looking for advice about how to care for your dog while camping and enjoying the great outdoors, I would look elsewhere.

A Must Have Book for RVing With Dogs.......2005-08-24

Great book!! Camping and RVing with Dogs is a timely addition to my "must-have" collection of travel guides. Since I take my dog, Lucy, with me whenever I am RVing, I found the information and tips in this book to be invaluable. In addition, the directory of pet-friendly campgrounds finally takes the guesswork out of finding a campground. Chapter 7, "Coping with Diverse Environments" gave great information about places I might want to go, but knew nothing about.

Short, Simple, and Sweet.......2006-05-26

A delightful read, I recommend this short novel to anyone who enjoys reading about the young human spirit. First French Kiss is unlike anything I have ever read before. The author describes the true nature and emotion of his memories, tying them together in a complete recollection of what adolescence is all about. Thoroughly descriptive, he writes his memories when he lived them, then analyzes them. His memories consist of tiresome camping, moving to a new home, his relationship among expecting peers, and his lion-hearted father. Bagdasarian does not write in a chronological order. This gives the audience a hint of the author's style and the fashion of how we reminisce - we think of an emotion, then an event that triggered the emotion. This book is called First French Kiss, because the first memory he shares with us is his first kiss with his 6th grade sweetheart. Other than that, there are no more kisses; I think the title had more of a capturing mechanism to it. As soon as I read the title, I wanted to know what it was all about. With witty satire, First French Kiss contains many humorous events and the confusion of growing up. Also touching on the mysteries of life, why things change, and death, this short book also explores the realm of curiosities of a child and young adult. Bagdasarian writes in a very conversational tone, which makes it much more enjoyable. I couldn't help myself from laughing out loud at times. He shows us his childhood; he doesn't tell it. With that said, I believe the author wrote this book because he wants to reach out, relate, and share experiences with us. He wants to tell us that growing up is not easy, and that obstacles will inevitably block us from our destination. He wants to tell us that we're not alone, because everyone is having the same triumphs and dilemmas that we are. We're in it together. That, and passing 9th grade geometry.

This book is so right about every thing that happens. Will's first "french" kiss is so realistic it is almost scarey
I really recomend this book to parents because it tell or shoshow dramatic the teen years are in the present day. Every feeling that Will feels is so relatable to what us teens feel when that event happens to us. There is this one par when he is trying to dump this girl that he really was not into in th first place. He must try three times before he can dump her. I read that feeling like I could never do that , but the week later I myself ended up doing the samething myself! :-)

"First French Kiss and other Traumas..." definitely had its moments. Throughout these excerpts from the writers youth, he tells entertaining stories, but in a random and unorganized style. While reading the book, i was entertained, but at the same time i was puzzled as to why he was choosing which story to tell, and the order he chose to arrange the stories in. However, within the last two stories, the reader engaged me and made me feel like i understood everything he was going through. With the death of his father, the most captivating scenario he described in his memoir to his father was his father vs. him AND his brother in an arm wrestling contest. That scenario captured the relationship he had with his father: the stereotypical (charming none the less) father-son relationship where the father is a big strong man and the son looks up to him. this book will have you make you want to cherish your youth years. it is truley a gem.

When I read the first few pages of this book...i loved it! It was so funny and I was sooo looking forward to reading the rest. As I was reading the rest I couldn't put it down. It wasn't just witty. It was written beautifully. I cried so many times. Will is soo sweet in this book. And I loved it! This book makes you think so much. It puts a smile on my face everytime I hear the name will now... Its great. I recomend to anyone

The Joys of Teenage Trauma.......2002-09-23

Adam Bagdasarian offers up several short, wonderful tales of the trails, indecision, fears and strange motivations that make being a teenager such a strange and magical time in anyone's life. Whether you are a teenager going through those times or an adult who can now look back at them in humor, "First French Kiss" is a delightful read. With stories depicting such common problems as social acceptance, camping, and an overactive imagination, the memories just come flooding back. Every reader will find at least one of the short vignettes that will speak directly to them. For me it was the experience of Little League, Going Steady, and, of course, that First French Kiss. I thoroughly enjoyed the trip back to my teenage years and the traumatic (but now humorous) times. A fun read for teenagers and adults.

This book provided an easy way of finding out the review of an item before even buying it. The reviews were easy to find because they were well organized. They were also very objective in there descriptions.

Welcome Back for a Classic.......2006-07-20

It's good to welcome back this classic of U.S. mining history. Clark C. Spence's British Investments and the American Mining Frontier, 1860-1901 has been the starting place for looking at foreign investment in American mining ever since its publication in 1958, when it won the American Historical Association's distinguished Beveridge Award.

In order to progress, American mining in the West needed lots and lots of development capital. Local capitalists in the states and territories provided some of the initial upfront capital. Gold Rush enriched San Francisco stepped into the breach, but increasingly ever more capital was needed. Mining promoters turned to the East and to Europe, particularly Britain, for funding.

Bill Robbins' Colony & Empire: The Capitalist Transformation of the American West provides a good discussion of this evolution in funding resources as he explores his theme of the capitalization and globalization of the West. And this is where Spence comes in, examining the promotional efforts to engage British capital, as well as the problems associated with distant and foreign investment. Amidst the general discussion, he particularly focuses on the Emma Silver Mining Company, Ltd., in Utah as a case study. Ironically, while British capital played a key role in developing the American mining industry during these years, very few of the 500+ British companies involved made any money.

W. Turrentine Jackson's recently reissued classic Treasure Hill: Portrait of a Silver Camp, which is also wonderful to have back in print, provides further illustration of the role and problems of British investment, in this instance the Eberhardt & Aurora Mining company in the White Pines Mining District in Nevada. Jeremy Mouat's Roaring Days: Rossland's Mines & the History of British Columbia is also enlightening since it offers a comparison with British investment across the border from Washington and Idaho in British Columbia.

Spences's British Investments in the American Mining Frontier, 1860-1901 is essential to understanding the history of American mining history, as is his more recent Mining Engineers & the American West: The Lace-Boot Brigade, 1849-1933, which has also been republished by the University of Idaho Press. Now the Mining History Association offers the Clark C. Spence Award for the best book published on American mining history.

In economics the dominant framework for exploring the structure of market economies is provided by the neoclassical school of thought. This text aims to show how neoclassical theory is used to model market mechanisms, both in particular markets and in the market economy as a whole. Underpinning this analysis is an examination of what neoclassical economists regard as key decision makers in a market economy, namely households and firms. In analysing these demand and supply activities, this text aims to provide an introduction to the microeconomics of markets, that is, the behaviour of individual units of economic activity. However, individuals do not behave as independent entities in the economy. They make economic decisions in the context of a variety of institutional structures. The text presents an alternative to neoclassicism by introducing the institutionalist perspective of economic thought. In this approach the social interactions between individuals are placed at the heart of economic activity. Perspectives are presented as a critique of neoclassical economics by providing an appraisal of neoclassical theory and developing an alternative.
