Great book for new scopists.......2000-09-14
This is a great book for new scopists to read. It gives you an overview of what court reporter's do. Learning about their jobs will help us, the scopists, do our job better. It is also a good book to get if you are thinking of becoming a court reporter. It goes over stipulations, parentheticals, motions, objections, etc. The part I liked best about this book is it gave alot of examples on preliminaries, title pages, appearance page, index page, transcripts.
I think this book makes a great collection for a court reporter or a scopists.

Book Description
We're delighted to present this outstanding collection of paintings and short essays by the late Bill Mason. His boundless enthusiasm for this country's rich and varied landscape, and the watercraft that allowed him to explore it, help lift from the page these exceptional paintings. Known primarily for his work as a filmmaker, author and canoeist, Mason spent a lifetime sketching and painting the rivers, lakes, waterfalls, marshlands, cliffs and campsites that he loved. They appear here in all weather, in all seasons. Most of the paintings featured in this book are impressionistic, some are realistic; in each painting, Mason sought to create images that would reveal new insights with repeat viewing.
Customer Reviews:
Fabulous!.......1999-07-12
I love Bill's art. He had a simple way of capturing the moment and beauty of the land, his land here in Canada. I'm so glad we've been able to see these marvellous paintings and sketches in a book format. In this way his work, which never gained him the notoriety he deserved while alive, allows us all to enjoy them around the world.
Canadian Wilderness as seen from the inside. Marvelous!.......1997-02-26
Bill Mason brings alive the Canadian wilderness in a way that I only imagined possible. The emotion in his paintings and words took me to the remote corners of canoe country like nothing short of being there would. The deep understanding that Mason had for the north country came out strongly in this book; so much so that I often found myself wandering into the corners of one of his paintings, remembering a trip to a similar lake, or waterfall, or wilderness escape. This is a MUST read for anyone who enjoys the outdoors
Book Description
Learn how the survival skills of the SAS can help you defend yourself.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent book!.......2007-01-18
I've only just begun to read this book but I am finding it to be very informative and well illustrated. I am sure this book would be helpful for everyone.
Very misleading title - and - where is the SAS?.......2007-01-16
After reading the book I have to say it did not meet my expectations at all. Sorry! From the title, you would expect something like a (light) version of the SAS hand-to-hand fighting manual, currently used by the SAS to prepare its soldiers for possible self-defense situations. This is absolutely not the case!
The main connection between the book and SAS is more or less the author's former employment as an SAS instructor!
The book includes some general tips for civilians on how to prevent getting into possible conflicts but they are mostly psychological.
The book also includes some self-defense techniques but it would be risky to base your safety just on them.
The author indicates that these techniques can be practiced at home, but, for example, warm-up exercises are completely missing.
In addition many techniques are described in one or two pictures, which is not really sufficient for correctly understanding the involved movements. The explanations for these techniques are kept rather short.
Overall I have to say that the book should be called ""Everyday Conflict Prevention and modified SAS Self-defense techniques for Civilians" or something like it because that would give readers a much better understanding of what they can expect for their money.
Don't expect too much - the title sounds great but that's more or less it!!!
Didn't Come.......2006-12-11
I ordered this book over four months ago and it was never delivered to me!
Real world advice.......2006-09-26
As a member of the military who has done some military self defence traning and also a martial arts trainee, this book was excellent. The techniques and advice are straightforward, useful and 'real world'. The only downside is it doesn't come with someone you can practice with (a must to really learn how to apply the techniques instinctively and explosively).
Should have been much more hardcore coming from the SAS.......2006-08-03
The book at best was not bad. Some decent info on dealing with adrenealine dumps. Some good self defense techniques. It was definatley a watered down version. If you want to learn the real deal old school style the buy Carl Cestaris tapes they are by far the best ever produced bar none. Get books on the real WW2 combatives. They contain everything that you could possibly need. Some of the title include Kill or get killed, get tough, Arwrology, Lethal Unarmed Combat,Cold Steel especially the part dealing with unarmed combat.Close Combat Files of Applegate,Deal the first Deadly Blow I like the 1954 eddition 300pgs, Any of the Armys FM-21 1971,1992,1942. The current one called Combatives 2000 is 100% Gracie jujitsu,Barekills by Oscar Diaz Cobo and some of his other books are informative, anything that Bradley J Steiner writes.I am sure Lofty knows his stuff but he definatly doesnt share it.

Great for traveling.......2007-07-28
This book is great if you are traveling to Italy and don't have time to take a class to learn the language.
Gerard F........2006-03-31
This book is worthless, even for $2. Very outdated (phrases about telegrams). I returned it. Buy Rick Steve's Italian Phrases instead. It is more compact and current (asks how to send an e-mail, not telegram).
Pretty bare bones phrase book.......2006-03-23
This was the cheapest phrase book that I saw offered on Amazon.com and, as trite as it is, you get what you pay for. If you are looking for the most basic of interactions with Italian speakers and are only planning on staying in tourist hotels and shopping in tourist markets, then this might suffice. However, if you are planning to interact with native Italian speakers in a less superficial way, or if you want to be able to express yourself with somewhat more sophistication, I would recommend another phrase book.
Easy equals Beginner.......2006-03-02
This book is too large to fit in your pocket. It has normal size type but lots of space between the entries. Check out other options and you will find a smaller, more useful reference.
Absolutely out of date Almost useless........2001-03-16
I had to look at the publication of this book. I thought it might be 1930. The section on Customs is really foolish. No one arriving in Italy needs to learn those foolish sentences about "This is for my personal use", "where are customs?" The train section is useless. Where is the smoking car? You select the type of car you want WHEN YOU BUY YOU TICKET. So old fashion! It is not useful for Italian of today.!

Book Description
Offering a courageous, honest, and compassionate look at what really goes on inside a tough high school, this novel for young adults is told alternately from the points of view of the most troublesome student in school and the assistant principal. The story explores dangerous boundaries and reveals uncomfortable truths about parents, students, and teachers. Jamie Joel has a bad temper and a mouth full of nasty words, but she is also intelligent and perceptive. She is faced with the decision of whether she should live with her hostile aunt or on the streets. The sympathetic assistant principal of Jamie's school finds himself in the middle, and the two are thrown together in ways that test them both.
Customer Reviews:
A realistic look on Australian secondary school life.......2004-07-03
Craig Eliot is the new deputy principal in a lower rung secondary school. Jamie Joel is a girl with "a real temper and a mouth like a sewer." The short novel (139 pages) alternates between Eliot's diary and Jamie's voice. There is no consistent plot of any kind, but Dumbleton does allow the growing relationship between student and teacher to become the main thesis of the book.
It is an amazingly accurate depiction of Australian school life. Jamie's character is generic enough to represent any bad girl in school who longs to turn obedient to authority. Eliot is the overworked teacher who is concerned about his rebellious students but knows clearly where his boundaries lie. He struggles between a hectic work schedule and family responsibilities. He could be any male teacher with a family.
I highly recommend this book to would-be teachers.

Breakthrough in the field of economics.......1999-11-09
This book is a demonstration of profound economic thought, and will soon change the way in which the world views economics.
Book Description
Integration is the most significant European historical development in the past fifty years, eclipsing in importance even the collapse of the USSR. This movement toward economic and political union has not only helped revive, transform and rejuvenate a battered civilization; it is opening the way to a promising future. Yet, until now, no satisfactory explanation is to be found in any single book as to why integration is significant, how it originated and has developed, how it has changed and continues to change Europe, and where it is headed. John Gillingham is a professor of history at the University of Missouri, St. Louis. His fields of research include European economic and cultural history as well as the history of international organizations. His book Coal, Steel and the Rebirth of Europe, 1945-1955(Cambridge, 1991) was awarded the prestigious George Lewis Beer Prize by the American Historical Association. In addition to two edited volumes and approximately fifty published articles, Gillingham is the author of Industry and Politics in the Third Reich (Columbia, 1985) and Belgian Business in the Nazi New Order (Ghent, 1977). Gillingham has been the recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Woodrow Wilson Center, and elsewhere.
Customer Reviews:
A masterwork by the master.......2006-12-21
Mr. Gillingham is the most informed and erudite American scholar in regards to the EU. Well done.
I haven't even read the book.......2005-02-28
But my review will still change the rating. BWA HA HA.
Mainly for Thatcherites.......2004-08-06
We need a one-volume history of European Integration, but not this five hundred page panegyric to...Margaret Thatcher? In Gillingham's funhouse, Thatcher is the key figure in European Integration, receiving more attention than any of the individuals who actually tried to integrate Europe, most of whom are dismissed, often in very personal terms. European integration indeed disappears from the book sometimes for sixty pages at a time while the author reviews political developments of right-wing governments in...New Zealand? A very distorted understanding of European integration.
An interesting view of European Integration.......2004-02-18
Unlike the last reviewer who had to review this work three times to air his/her views on this work, I will only need one. The author is extremely precise in his wording, and very knowledgeable with the subject matter presented. The book is a pleasure to read, and a great addition to the library of anyone with an avid interest in Europe.
Too many factual errors.......2003-08-13
European Integration is one of my favorites topics. I do not share the author's euro skepticism but I enjoyed his discussion about different theories of integration. However, I cannot recommend a book with so many factual errors about modern history of my native Spain. I do not know who told Mr. Gillingham that Prime Minister Felipe González was know as Pepe (it is González and not Gonzáles by the way), that the socialist inspired trade union is the Unión de Centro Democrático (as opposed to the Union General de Trabajadores) that the deputy PM name was Juan Guerra (as opposed to Alfonso Guerra) or that the Bank of Spain intervened BANESTA (as opposed to BANESTO). I recommend a full revision if this book is ever to be translated into Spanish and/or sold in Spain. I can only hope that he got the facts of the rest of the countries right.
