An Excellent Introductory Coursebook.......2000-11-02

Chaisson and McMillan have succeeded in creating a textbook that works on many levels. First of all, the book makes a true effort to excite students about astronomy, as it starts out immediately with a view of the universe and its massive size. Secondly, the book is approachable, with optional "more precisely" sections that cover things in detail or with more mathematics. Finally, the book challenges a college student while still being accessible to bright middle-school students (I first used it at a summer camp, the Center for Talented Youth, and the entire class used the book to great success). In addition to the natural merits of the writing, which is wonderful, and a moderate amount of history, the book includes stunning pictures and a CD-ROM that contains the entire text of the book, animations, and all of the images. It's a superb way to have the contents anywhere you need them, and look at things in greater detail. This book should be highly recommended for educators, and I highly encourage them to give it a try and to use it in their classes.

A Splendid Juggernaut of a book.......2004-07-05

For anyone living along the upper Mississippi river, especially in the Twin Cities, who has an interest in our river this book is a must read. John Anfinson comprehensively examines the history and development of the upper Mississippi river from several perspectives. The upper Mississippi's development and health are still unfolding, as Anfinson suggests, and he leaves us with the open-eneded question how economics, environment, recreation, and politics will shape policy regarding future development and sustainability. At times the book overly bombards the reader with very specific historical minutiae that become hard to remember as the book progresses. Despite the minutiae, though, the book is thoroughly researched and organized clearly. It's an overall great read.

Very technical, very useful for intermed/advanced archers.......2003-12-16

I own quite a few (probably too many!) books on archery. After a while they all start to sound the same, NOT SO with this book. It details the exact mucles and bones used in shooting a bow. It has many excellent labelled drawings so the techincal language is easier to follow than you would think. I have rotator cuff trouble and this book really helped me with this. Explanations of how to hold the string are particularly good. I do not recommend this for beginners, you really should start with a less technical book. Otherwise it's an excellent value.

Whether your interest is target, 3-D or hunting, and especially if you shoot a traditional bow, rather than a compound, this book will educate you in new ways. The excellent illustrations tell the story in themselves -- there are good ways and not-so-good ways of drawing a bow. You can improve your performance and help avoid injuries and nagging problems, by following the advice in this book.

An excellent contribution to a little-understood and vital aspect of our sport. Highly recommended.

An Acquired Taste.......2001-07-30

This is a very interesting read. I am a beginner in archery and never knew the depth of this sport before I read this book. I was fastreading my friend's copy twice before I finally decided that I need this book. If you are looking for personal satisfaction in this sport read this book. It will teach you how to get the appropriate sensation of each movement in archery. To me archery is about feeling and this book can help you feel for the sport. One word of caution though - Be prepared for some heavy reading! The jargon can be tiring.

There are few books of its class........2000-10-14

There are not many good books on the sport in print, SO far I have only found about 6 books worth reading.

This is one of them, it explains in great detail the medical nature of the sport and how it affects the body.

Never judge a book by its cover, this is one of those books.

One of the best books on archery.......2000-04-15

This biomechanical study of archery supports all the best coaching. It has one of the best explanations of the proper draw that I have seen. In addition to correct methods of execution, it shows the disadvantages that less duplicatable methods pose. Good book for coaches and archers alike. If you're a beginner, you'll need this book later.

Decent molecule set for the price.......2007-10-18

There's plenty of atoms (both in number and variety) and plenty of bonds. This kits allows you to rotate atoms about the bonds (great for exploring the different conformations of compounds (anti, gauche, ellisped stuff) and converting between chair conformations of cyclohexane. My only complaint is that the bonds are sort of hard to insert into (and remove from) atoms. You really have to push/pull hard - sort of time consuming to build molecules. Sturdy kit, though. Good value and fun to play with.

Big Kid's Tinker Toys.......2007-10-18

I haven't had so much fun building things since I had Tinker Toys and Legos. This kit is great. The only thing that I would say is it would be great if there were more atoms included in it. It's not the greatest at showing the boat and chair modles for cyclohexane but it's better than nothing. I'm passes O-Chem because of these things.

Helpful but..........2007-09-30

These models are great for visualizing the way molecules are put together and they seem quite sturdy. But they can be very hard to snap together and pull apart, making building larger molecules a bit frustrating. Also, for as much as this cost I would have liked to get more of each type of atom.

So Far, So Good..........2007-09-24

I haven't used the set too terribly much yet, but so far its been great. It could have a few more atoms but its got the base for organic chem and is really easy to use. It comes with different sized/colored spacer for bonds and has a handy bond remover tool as well. I highly recommend this set, its been great so far!

Molecular Model Set.......2007-09-22

Really useful for trying to figure out resonance structures. For everybody who's a kinesthetic learner this is a extremely helpful study tool, and it's kinda neat to build molecules just to see what they look like.

Excellent quality, very useful for general, organic and inorganic chemistry. The only problem is that there are not a lot of atoms to build large molecules like sucrose, but for it is great for visualizing things like the chair conformation of cyclohexane.
