Competency-based interviewing techniques will give your company a strategic focus by allowing hiring managers to integrate job-specific, future-oriented competencies into their interviews. This workshop teaches participants to identify key competencies (characteristics that differentiate outstanding performers from average performers in a given job) and build those competencies into their hiring and selection process in order to attain this strategic focus. Interviewing for competencies follows a structured format which this workshop takes you through step-by-step-the interviewer builds a customized interview format for each individual position based on the duties and responsibilities of the position and identifies the critical skills needed to perform these duties and responsibilities at a superior performance level.

Unlike other competency-based interviewing workshops, Interview for Success uses personality measures based on the results of a Big 5 Personality Assessment in conjunction with competency-based interviewing and ties the two factors together to assess areas, such as technical acumen and behavioral tendencies.

Video role-plays effectively model behavioral interviewing practices and provide learners with a structured format to recognize and critique, good and bad approaches.

With a series of Job Aids for each step, as well as a database of competencies, behaviors, and more than 300 effective behavioral interviewing questions provided on CD-ROM, this easy-to-use tool enables the hiring manager or human resources professional to expertly build a competency-based interview.

Competency-Based Interviewing Model:

Step 1. Assemble job information
-Ask yourself: What does this person do?
-List duties/responsibilities

Step 2. Link skills to tasks
-Derive the skills needed to perform duties
-Skills can be duplicated
-Make a master list, eliminating duplicates

Step 3. Pick the skills to interview for
-Cross out skills that should be assessed elsewhere
-Eliminate skills that do not distinguish superior performance
-Highlight questions you want to probe

Step 4. Develop interview questions from competencies
-Identify target behaviors for each competency
-Write 2-3 interview questions per competency

Step 5. Modify Interview with Big 5 Personality Assessment (optional)

Step 6. Listen for complete responses
-Stay in control: Dealing with difficult candidates -Situation, Behavior, Outcome

Quite discouraging. This guy is the man I grew up with on Saturday nights watching TBS. My all time favorite wrestler, and 2nd favorite interview. I even have a Dusty Rhodes doll. However, this book is terrible. Way too many expletives that just are not needed. Terrible grammar and editing. Story line is at the same time disjointed and repetitive. Way worse than Flair's "To Be the Man."

This book is not a total waste of time and money. There is some interesting material and minimal value. Overall, it is very disappointing and compares very poorly with other wrestling biographies. It is very poorly written and the style in which is it written leaves much to be desired. It is my opinion that the strongest point this work emphasizes is what a sick individual Dusty Rhodes was and is. If you are a staunch wrestling fan I do recommand reading it, but look for a copy at a thrift store or yard sale. I am sure there will be plenty of copies available soon.

worse than the rocks book.......2005-11-30

I got half way thru this book and couldn't take it anymore. I've read almost all the wrestling books and this one rates among the worst. Dusty lives in a dream world. He takes credit for everything yet blame for nothing. He claims if hogan wasn't around, he was all set to be the biggest draw in wrestling. His hatred for hogan runs throughout the book. He thinks since he came up with "the great american bash" that vince should pay him around 200,000$ in royalties . He goes on to say how he was the first to drive a truck into a stadium and drink beer, not austin. According to dusty, he's done it all. He believes magnum TA and nikita koloff would have been nothing without him.Save your money, this ego maniac's book isn't even a good door stop.

Handyman for Handymen.......2006-01-19

This is a good reference guide for those that are in the carpentry and construction business or experienced handymen. The information is good, though could stand to be better organized. I was also surprised to see that it contained much of the same information as the "Pocket Ref", by the same author. I would say that for general info, the Pocket Ref was a better buy. However, this little book works pretty well for those who need specifics for carpentry.

Dogbreath Victorious rocks.......2000-04-28

His dad is six months dead and his virtually penniless mom is reduced to a self-affirming mantra, "every day my life is getting better and better". High schooler Tim Threfall has only his band, Dogbreath, going for him. At least until a meeting with the boy's counselor, Mr. Thompson, who threatens Tim with a suspension and recommends to Tim's mom that band activities cease until Tim's grades, attitude, and appearance all "improve drastically". Problems ensue as Dogbreath's big chance looms: an opportunity to play in a bands contest for a two thousand dollar prize, plus an audition for a recording contract. Tim can be self-absorbed enough to make the Alicia Silverstone character in Clueless seem intuitive and insightful. He can wonder why they eat a steady diet of macaroni and cheese each night even as he badgers his mom for the money he needs for the fifty dollar contest entry fee. Even so, author Henry is deft enough with his characters that Tim will engage the sympathy of most readers as he makes the wrong decisions and chases the wrong girl. A good title for reluctant readers, the supporting cast is hilarious: Ziggy, the best friend and fellow Dogbreath member who puts in two well-timed nude scenes, Ziggy's huge scene stealing dog, Howie, and another band, The Angry Housewives, who just rock at the contest, and closer to home, end up rocking Tim's home life as well. Something like Ron Koertge with just a seasoning dash of Daniel Pinkwater, Henry's debut novel is hilarious.
