The title sounds reasonable enough to seriously considering purchasing this book. Being almost 8 years old, it was well worth the price that I paid through one of the Amazon resellers. It is still timely in that no two golfers are exactly alike. You won't see Craig Stadler trying a Vijay Singh or Tiger Woods swing. The imagery of a person with particular body type trying to swing a club that doesn't fit their shape is clear - it won't work very efficiently.

The latest craze, due to an influx of infomercials, is the "Plane Truth" as outlined by Mr. Hardy. This book, "The Laws of the Golf Swing", is complementary to what is described, in my opinion. It does give a sigh of relief that there is so much overlap regarding the fundamentals of the golf swing. It makes sense that given a particular body type, a swing will be more powerful and natural if the two can be matched.

The first chapter has a short introduction explaining the background of 'research'. You then determine your body type based upon physical and morphological characteristics, strength and flexibility. Based upon that set, you fit into one of 3 categories: Leverage, Width, and Arc swing. Hybrid swings exists also which combine the 3 major Swings.

A chapter is devoted to the major swing styles, independently, and how to maximize performance. A chapter covering drills to reinforce the swings, as well as pitfalls.

Each section is well written and illustrations are good. My main criticism is not showing the swing in the two different planes of photography (from behind and from the front, as most books now show).

The analysis, drills and excellent descriptions of their methods are very helpful for both beginners and seasoned hackers, alike.

I highly recommend this book.

Good Idea, But............2006-08-18

I enjoyed reading this book, and it certainly had some good ideas, but I'm not sure it helped my golf swing at all.
If I had been able to properly implement the instructions in the book, it might have helped more; but you can only learn so much of a golf swing motion from still pictures and written instructions.
I recommend video or personal instruction where you can see the whole swing and/or get instant feedback.
This book might be more useful to an instructor and not an amateur golfer.

The ONE golf instruction book you should read.......2006-02-24

Excellent golf instruction. Mike Adams is the only golf instructor I know who relates body structure (type) to the golf swing. For instance, Davis Love III (tall and thin) and Craig Stadler (stocky) with different body structures need to swing a golf club differently.
This book delivers the instructions in
words and pictures in a clear manner. It gave me the confidence to make changes in my swing and I'm the hitting the ball better than ever.

I have long argued that it is almost impossible for me learn golf. My body is simply not suited for the game of golf. Other people laughed and said it is all in my head. But this book confirms that body shape matters. And not only that. It also gives advice on how to adjust your swing according to your body shape. And it seems that no PRO is aware of this. They all teach the same standard swing. So, from my point of view, tall and thin as I am, this is the best golf instruction I've ever got. A real breakthough for me.

Finally a book that takes the mystery out of the golf swing.After hours of wasted time on the range and numerous books this book is the definitive on the golf swing based on sound laws of physics as they relate to the individual's body characteristics and the execution of the golf swing. If you have the patience to understand the principles and apply them you will be soundly rewarded not only with fine golf shots but the joy of understanding which is for me the most rewarding part.

This was a hard book to find in local stores.......2007-10-18

The Dictionary of Cultural Literacy was a required dictionary which I could not fine in several of the local stores. I was helping my Granddauhter purchase her school supplies while my Daughter was at the Hospital. I called my Granddaughter to fine out how importance the dictionary was, when she told me she needed for class. I decided to go online to fine the dictionary she needed. My Granddaughter called me to thank me for finding what she needed and The New Dictionary of Cultural Literacy was perfect for her class.

i am not the sharpest knife in the drawer, if you know what i mean. this book is just the ticket for a palooka like me. i've been dipping into the thing here and there for a couple of months now, and it's been a tremendous amount of fun. i was amazed by how much i had forgetten from my school days (i am 45). this compendium of learning covers a lot of ground, with a text that is clear and concise and enjoyable to read. the bible, mythology and folklore, literature, philosophy, religion, the english language, the fine arts, american history and world history, geography, psychology, sociolgy, business and economics, science, medicine, health, and technology, all get a going over. the format is easy and perfect for dipping into anywhere whenever you have the time to do so. a perfect coffee table book. a great bedside book. i highly recommend this to anyone who wishes to expand their knowledge or bone up on their facts in a wide variety of human endeavor.

Something for Everyone.......2007-01-20

This is one book eveybody who wishes to be a well rounded, educated reader should own. It gives you a general knowledge of most subjects from art & culture, to science, social issues, history, famous names and a whole lot more. It is an excellent source book.

Comprehensive but necessary?.......2007-01-10

I have strongly mixed feelings about Hirsch's idea of cultural literacy. Regardless, this text is exactly what Hirsch promises it to be: a dictionary of cultural references. The one thing that Hirsch fails to state (and perhaps it's implicit within his tome) is that the cultural dictionary is developed from a fairly WASP-like perspective. He disclaims that it is what "every American" needs to know, but fails to recognize his operating stance. There is a heavy American, Judeo-Christian, masculine influence in his book. This is by no means an unbiased cultural dictionary.

A great way to understand the history of our country.......2006-08-21

This book will help you to comprehend the background of our country a little more as well as give a high-level overview of where the foundations of our nation came from.
