The purpose of this volume is to produce a collection of articles by leading social psychologists and organizational scholars that focus on legitimacy processes in organizations. Over the last two decades in social psychology within sociology, scholars have developed legitimacy theories that strive to show how legitimacy processes merge into structures.

Also, in organizational research, issues of legitimacy processes are of central concern - for example, in neoinstitutional theory. Therefore, it is worthwhile to devote a volume that will address specifically how these legitimacy processes operate in organizations.

This collection of papers will accomplish two goals. First, the contributors will have an opportunity to discuss how legitimacy processes contribute to our understanding of how organizations are structured and how they work. In addition, by examining legitimacy processes, the contributors will be able to explore the micro/macro implications of these processes.

Second, this volume should stimulate more discussion between social psychologists and organizational researchers on issues of legitimacy and future directions for understanding legitimacy processes.

Very Good Book.......2007-08-21

This was the main text for a Graduate Experimental Design class. I found the book very good especially for agriculture. It is not strictly a recipe book on how to do statistics. If you want that get the Gomez and Gomez book or Little and Hills. This book covers many topics well and has problem sets.

not useful for me.......2007-03-10

I bought the book because it was required in class. I just check it few times for some required exercises, but when the class was finished I sold the book almost new.
The fact is that I don't like the way they explain the topics, it's not very useful for me. I find better stuff on line than in that book.

This is a great book. A friend and I had a trip to Big Sur planned and the book came several days before so that I was able to study up and enjoy the area even more!

This book isn't great, but it is very good.

1. It is inspiring. I feel like I want to go do the hike after I read the description
2. Good pictures. Some have people in them and these are done very well.
3. Good descriptions. These aren't little one page jobs.

1. Pictures - The pictures are black and white, not color and I think color pictures can mean everything. But this does not detract that much from this fine book

Clear, On Track, Vital.......2006-08-28

The book was wonderful to have on our trip to the Central Coast. Objective information with enough opinion and subjective information to help us decide where, how, when for each hike. The back of the book with the top list organized by theme was very helpful. One way the book could have been better is with a cross-reference chart... so if you want both "ocean" and "redwoods" as themes you could look it up, instead of a bunch of page flipping. The author does a good job appealing to a wide range, level of hikers, rare in a guide book.

Useful - but not in the way LP intended.......2004-10-29

This little book is an essential read for those who wish to understand why so many LP books are mostly naive, hysterical, biased waffle. It will show you, in great detail, the sad people who produce these poorly researched newsletters, and you will get a deeper insight into why most of the Lonely Planet books are a waste of money.

A reviewer before me summed it up very neatly about the writers: "either drunk much of the time, naive beyond belief, or both". I could not say it better.

You read this book and you see this is all about getting drunk, missing the plane, getting drunk, not complying with immigration regulations, getting drunk, and then getting drunk some more. And always, ALWAYS going to the poorest countries and driving a hard bargain with the poorest people there so that afterwards they can proudly boast how they crossed India (2000 miles or something) for $11.50 when the going rate was $11.70.

I remember reading, with disbelief, in LP guide to West Africa about how you can take a journey of over 100 km for $0.11 instead of $0.15 or something. Now I know what kind of dolts write these guidebooks and I perfectly understand them.

Having no money is no sin; having no brain and no thoughts in your head and not seeing ANYTHING beyond the cheapest bus fare on a rusty bus (Oooh! I'm not going by taxi like all those disgusting rich people! I am so proud of myself! I think I'll meet up with Deanna Swaney and get drunk!) is not a sign of intelligence; but writing travel books when the ONLY thought in your head is saving money and getting drunk - this is just plain sad.

"Disaster Stories"? Yes. The biggest disaster is that most of those writers ever got their boarding passes.

Great Short Stories from the Lonely Planet writers.......2003-09-17

If you love travel, you'll love this book.

The book is a collection of short stories from the writers of Lonely Planet. It's a great behind the scenes look at the people that put together the high quality books.

Charming, funny, and even scary stories make this book a wonderful read.

Many of the stories will make you laugh out loud, others will make you thankful that you weren't there!

Lonely Planet Unpacked will help you relive your own travel adventures. Only people that have truely traveled (backpacked)will get something out of this book. As for all travelers have their own tales to tell, and this book lets you hear what others have faced in the pursuit of seeing the world.

A great read!

Disappointing to say the least........2002-02-04

I wish I had read the reviews of the first volume of this series because if I had I might have not wasted both the money, and time I spent on this book.

It is almost impossible for me to believe these are even the second best stories that Lonely Planet could find among all the writers they have hired over the years. This book actually makes it less likely I will use their guidebooks from now on. Why should I use a company that seems to hire people who are either drunk much of the time, naive beyond belief, or both.

The travails of a man who got so drunk he missed his charter flight home from the Canary Islands. Another story of having a dental plate worked on during a holiday. Is this really the best stories they can find?

While there are several moderately good stories here, spend your money more wisely on some great travel books by Dervla Murphy, Pico Iyer or, if you really want to read about someone pushing the envelope, try Danziger's Travels.

The Breakable Vow, Kathryn Ann Clarke 0-06-051821-9

In 2001 there was reported 691,710 cases of non-fatal violence from spouses, ex-spouses, and boyfriends or girlfriends. There should not be violence in relationships between people. In The Breakable Vow Annie and her boyfriend, Kevin, had been going out for a while and Annie went on a camping trip with her friend, Rene. Kevin is a pretty jealous guy, so he showed up to surprise her, but was really making sure she wasn't cheating on him. While they were there Rene went off to hang out with some other camp people, and Kevin pressured Annie into having sex with him. When Annie got back from the camping trip she felt very sick, and found out that she was pregnant. When she told Kevin he told her that his mom could pay for an abortion, but Annie didn't want to get rid of her kid.
This story is realistic fiction. One day after one of Annie's doctor appointments Kevin was getting ready to drive her home, but stopped. He said, "Who's Herold." Herold was a guy that Annie met while camping. Then, when she said that he was just a guy she met while camping and didn't do anything with him, Kevin reached over and started to strangle her. She tried to get out, but couldn't. He told her he had no choice, but to strangle her, and that she was a slut. She finally got out of the car and ran home. She wasn't talking to him, but a couple of days later he came to her house and apologized. He said he would never touch her again. So, a couple months later she had her baby, and they got married. They moved to Texas for Kevin, because he had a football scholarship there. They continued to get into fights, and some were violent, but not extremely violent. Annie started going to a counselor. She told her that Kevin hurts her, then acts all nice to get her back, and that she's in big danger. Well, one night when Kevin found out that some boy at Annie's work liked her he came running into the house extremely drunk and it went too far.
This was one of the best books I've read in months! It had an interesting topic to start out, and it was very suspensful. For example, when Kevin found out that some guy at Annie's worked liked her it ended the chapter with this, "She was two steps from the front door when she saw the knob turning." I could not put the book down, because I wanted to know what happened next, and if Annie would get out alright. I 100% recommend this book, because it kept me reading for hours, and the story line never got boring. Also, some books have really stupid endings, but the ending to this book made me feel like I knew what happened, even though it pretty much left you at a cliff hanger. I felt very satisfied after the book ended. I hope that you read this book, and learn some facts on abusers too.

This is one of the best books I've ever read! I couldn't put it down once I started it. I had to find out what happened to Annie and Mary. Everything seemed so realistic. It scared me a bit though. I was afraid of my closet for a while. Besides that, this is a must read!

This book was good, but the main character was foolish............2005-12-14

This book is about 2 teenagers who meet and fall in love.....yeah it sounds like a sappy love story but it's not.
Annie is a typical teenager who has everything going for her until she meets Kevin. Kevin seems sweet until Annie sees his dark side, he is violet, jealous and can't control his rage. He accuses Annie over & over of cheating on him. Annie goes to a camp out trip and her and Kevin end up together, he promises not to get Annie pregnant but it happenes anyway and it forces them into a rushed marriage. Kevin's rage goes off the wall after he marries Annie. He starts hitting on her, pulling her hair, pushing her down the stairs and calling her names. I thought Annie was foolish for putting up with Kevin once in the book she sits there and let's Kevin throw metal tools at her head and kicks her in the mouth!
Even though this book was fiction, the point was that you need to be careful who you choose to have a relationship with and what happened to Annie can happen to anyone.

I loved this book. It was so sad, but seemed so very realistic. The way she described Kevin and how he acted put chills up my spine, it scared me so much ,i didnt read it for three days. But i had to find out what happened to Annie and Mary. It was a great book. I'd reccomend this to anyone.... its such a tearjerker.

Amazing tale of strength and courage.......2005-03-23

This book was an amazing story of strength, courage and healing. I find it hard to believe that some reviewers commented on grammatical errors or the length of the book. Did they NOT read this heart-wrenching story? From what I know about Kathryn Clarke, this book is largely based on her personal experiences and is semi-autobiographical. Truth is often stranger than fiction. "Annie" is a young woman who is a survivor of abuse who displays amazing intelligence, faith and determination. The cycle of abuse is often difficult for others to understand if they are not engulfed in that situation. This author does an incredible job of giving the reader insight into how and why someone can get caught up in the pain and dangerous pattern of abuse. She also gives HOPE to anyone in a similar situation. I HIGHLY recommend this book!

Monetary union has dawned in Europe. Now that the common currency is a reality, questions concerning the practical conduct of monetary policy in the European Monetary Union (EMU) are moving to the forefront of the policy debate. Among these, one of the most critical is how the new monetary union will cope with the large heterogeneity of its member economies. Given the large differences in economic and financial structures among the EMU member states, monetary policy is likely to affect different member economies in different ways.
Regional Aspects of Monetary Policy in Europe collects the proceedings of an international conference held at the Center for European Integration Studies of the University of Bonn, dedicated to this issue. The contributions to this conference fall into two parts. The first part consists of empirical and theoretical studies of the regional effects of monetary policy in heterogeneous monetary unions. The second part consists of papers analyzing the political economy of monetary policy in a monetary union of heterogeneous regions or member states.
The papers all support the conclusion that regional differences in the responses to a common monetary policy will make European monetary policy especially difficult in the years to come. Such differences arise from a variety of sources, and they cannot be expected to be mere teething troubles that will disappear after a while. Even if they were ignored in the run-up to the EMU, Europe's central bankers and economic policy makers will have to learn how to cope with such differences in the future.
