Optimal Shape Design is concerned with the optimization of some performance criterion dependent (besides the constraints of the problem) on the "shape" of some region. The main topics covered are: the optimal design of a geometrical object, for instance a wing, moving in a fluid; the optimal shape of a region (a harbor), given suitable constraints on the size of the entrance to the harbor, subject to incoming waves; the optimal design of some electrical device subject to constraints on the performance. The aim is to show that Optimal Shape Design, besides its interesting industrial applications, possesses nontrivial mathematical aspects. The main theoretical tools developed here are the homogenization method and domain variations in PDE. The style is mathematically rigorous, but specifically oriented towards applications, and it is intended for both pure and applied mathematicians. The reader is required to know classical PDE theory and basic functional analysis.

For example, one of the tools she recommends is the halter with chain over the nose for more "persuasive" effect. Unless you know already how to use this halter, don't start here. This type of halter can seriously hurt a horse unless used properly.

Spectacular! Easy to Follow!.......2004-06-22

Jan's book is the best book I've read on the subject of trick training for horses. I own other trick training books (and videos) and if you own Jan's book, you can pitch the others. She explains each concept simply and includes training "keys" and "tips" that are absolutes! She also includes some notes of caution - things that you need to watch out for. Learning from her experience makes trick training fun and easy! I highly recommend this book!

This is an excellent book for anyone--not just someone who wants to train their horse to do tricks. It builds a better partnership and teaches the horse to be more responsive. Jan's explanations are clear--things that anyone can follow at home. The proof of her methods of training are in the horses she shows & the rave reviews of people who buy her foals. Her stallion, TS Black Tie Affair, has won world championships in many events and competes in everything from halter to dressage to speed classes! He's always good tempered and has excellent manners. Good introduction to college .......2005-10-04

I thought it was a good overall book that covered many areas of college life. The only problem I had with it is I did not know it was published by a Christian publisher. He added some things inside the book that was insulting of me as a non-Christian.I hate politically correct, and this is not a kind of "represent all religions, or don't talk about yours" kind of perception.I think it's good to talk about your religion, no matter what it is, but he had written only that you as a christian might have a hard time learning how to bring people to the Christian way of thinking.I do not want to be converted, as that seems a little intolerant, and infringing on my right to not be bulldozed by mormons, catholics, buddists, islamist, and jehova witnesses.

I'm an incoming freshman to UGA, Go Dawgs!!!!, and I absolutley loved this book. It was funny and easy to read. Lots of helpful hints for the nervous freshman.

Honestly, I read this book. I felt it was very down to earth and a very easy read. Zach does his best to make incomming freshmen at ease with their transition into college life. For the most part it is humorous and has enough wit to keep most readers interested.

I will say that it doesn't give the most complete look at college life. In order to impart your college freshman with a complete point-of-view of the college experience I recommend (in addition to this book):

Been There, Should've Done That II : More Tips for Making the Most of College by Suzette Tylor. (ISBN: 0965608611 ) Decent advice, and a quick read.

College 101 : The Book Your College Does Not Want You To Read (ISBN: 0966412206 ) by Guy Stevens. The advice is spot on and any book hated by college administrations can't be all bad! Also some of the stories are pretty classic.

Awful book!.......2004-05-07

This is one awful, awful book. I hated it. It was NOT funny, as I think he intended it to be, and it had no content value at all. He is basically trying to sell his diary. To be honest, I didn't finish it. It didn't help me at all.

This book is FREAKING HILARIOUS! I got it for Christmas after my first semester here. I finnished it in two days. It was hilarious. When I get back to school, I'm gonna recommend it to all my warped friends. What's really funny is when he mentions ADD and a really tiny attention span and I remember I have one of those also and.....what was I talking about again? Hi....baby rabbits are cute....I'm going to go study my coloring books again now....

The Faithless Fiduciary examines the enduring problem of opportunistic behavior by charitable fiduciaries, and the inability to create an effective system of oversight or accountability for charitable assets. The Faithless Fiduciary and the Quest for Charitable Accountability traces charity scandals, as well as attempts to counter such behavior from the thirteenth century to the present. One vehicle for examining the persistence of opportunistic fiduciary behavior is the Hospital of St. Cross, an almshouse founded in the twelfth century outside of the City of Winchester in Hampshire, England. St. Cross still serves the poor and offers a contemporary visitor, though unlikely to be a pilgrim on the way to Canterbury, a draught of beer and some bread. What is unique about this venerable charity is the recurrence of fiduciary wrongdoing by its leaders through the centuries in 1190, 1304, 1320, 1372, 1576, 1696, and 1853. Crossing the Atlantic, The Faithless Fiduciary examines charity scandals from the beginnings of European settlement to the present. This author offers several propositions: 1) a favorable attitude toward philanthropy has existed since the thirteenth century in both society in a normative sense and through the legal system's protection of charities; 2) many fiduciaries, regularly, in almost all contexts and periods, have breached their trust; and 3) the attempt to regulate charities and fiduciaries largely has been ineffective.
