This is a practical and "easy to use" book. For anyone who has to work with other people (isn't that most of us?) this book offers a clear map to navigate the process. Filled with worksheets, charts, and carefully outlined steps, it addresses every part of the collaborative process. It includes activities to get others on board with collaborative initiatives. I highly recommend it.

Any leader who is interested in achieving a competitive advantage for his or her company needs to have this book on his/her desk. This is the first book I have read on organizational design and redesign that is so practical and useful. It outlines a sound model for the strategic design process for companies to move toward collaboration. But the book's real value is in its numerous practical worksheets, charts, pictures, assessments, and exercises to help leaders, change agents, or consultants guide organizations in moving more toward collaboration.

The simplicity of this book makes it useful in many arenas -- as I said, it would be useful for managers, leaders and consultants in guiding organizational change. It would also be useful as a textbook for business or management classes in organizational change. Students these days are craving practicality to go along with the theory they learn -- this book offers both.

Mark Twight and James Martin have assembled an excellent reference and an enjoyable read supported by wonderful photos.

I found the chapter on attitude and character most fascinating. The recognition and acceptance of fear coupled with will and realization of suffering as part of alpinism, helped to crystallize success and acceptance of failure.

An honest discussion about psychological training is helpful for the beginning and experienced climbers. Chapter 2 covers awareness, visualization, and psychological acclimatization before, during and after the climb.

These subjects are usually avoided or hidden in nuances in other mountaineering works. Bringing them into the open in the first two chapters helps set the supporting themes used throughout Extreme Alpinism.

Unfortunately the other reviewers did not impart the key aspects of this book.
This book is essential reading on how and what to train to become a stronger player. How does a player go about becoming a stronger player?
This book has it all, great pictures, nice and not so nice tales from some of the great climbs out there. Twight has distilled decades of experiences and knowledge into one of the best books on the Alpine method of climbing out there.
Here's what you get;
Training chapters, including physical and mental, at extreme climbing when half your gear has gone and one of your climbing party killed, it becomes more of a mental challenge than physical.
Equipment, great commentary and recommendations by brand
Technique, everything from partners to staying alive.

I think the one-page topics alone are worth the price of the book e.g
Failure, Alpine solo, Mistake on Mt Huntington, Why helmets are a good deal, Ordeal on Everest, Alone on Chamoz.

Twight climbed with the great Jeff Lowe, as far as I am concerned that's qualification enough to write this book. Although I am never going to be an extreme climber the techniques and mentoring wisdom in these pages I know will help me in the years to come. A great book for the experienced climber and also an inspirational book for the Novice. Much more entertaining than "Freedom of the hills"

good primer.......2003-01-11

read this before your next camping trip. one thing he doesn't go into is recommendations for good insect repellants. i recommend taking some. also a good frame pack. he likes those fancy internal frame ones that seem to always come in some godawful color never found in nature. those are for sissies in my opinion. a food external packboard with a tumpline is my choice. plastic boots are also for sissies. my old leather hob-nailed boots have served me well for years. these whippersnappers have to have all the lightest fancy gear just to step out of the house. christ, what a bunch of pansies! and what is this "skinny puppy" he's always going on about? just feed the damn dog! all in all, a good book though. i think he may be a little insecure in his manliness though, what with all the hard stuff he says he's done. hell, with the gear you youngsters use, where's the challenge?

The Raise the Flag series is one of those very few series of books that you can't put down. The series is also one of the best Christian series that I have read.
In "B is for Bad At Getting into Harvard" Norie Vandenberger finds herself in a scary predicament when her closest friends start a cheating ring. Norie refuses to join, and finds herself in the midst of a scandal at King High. With the help of her boyfriend Wyatt, Norie tries to get the administrators to have a group of teachers and students in the school form a council to catch and try cheaters, to help solve King High's cheating problem. Norie finds herself in trouble though, when a teacher turns her in for cheating! Like her flagpole friend Tobey, Norie learns a lesson about real friends.

I purchased a few books in preparation for the macro/micro econ CLEP tests. Among these books is the Schaums Principles of Economics book. From my experience, the book is not very thorough. Perhaps it will help you understand economics -- and for some people, I am sure it is a sufficient study aid -- but there are definitely better Econ books out there. The book that I am reading right now is Barron's Economics, which I find to be much more detailed. A significant difference between the two books is that the Barron's version is ~580 pages long (about 200 pages longer than the Schaums), but these pages are full of additional material that is not found in Schaums (in other words, it is not a waste of paper). Although both books seem to cover roughly the same material, I have noticed that the Barron's book includes some interesting chapters (such as Game Theory) that are not even mentioned in the Schaum's book.

One more thing that I find important is that the Barron's book has smaller dimensions than the Schaums book and is therefore much more manageable (and enjoyable to read).

Luckily, the used prices for this book are pretty low, so you can always do what I did and just buy both of the books! If you are interested in more books that are introductory material to economics, the following books have sparked my interest in the field:

The Elusive Quest for Growth (the troubles we have encountered in trying to develop struggling nations)
Economics in One Lesson (a succintly written book that covers basic economic fallacies)
Globalization and its Discontents (Yes, it is about Globalization... written by Stiglitz of the World Bank)

Not up to Schaum's standards.......2006-02-02

This book is *ok*, but it is not as good as the other Schaum's books that I own (I own nearly 20 of them). I recomment this book ONLY if you are studying high school economics. If you are in college (or taking AP Economics or studying for CLEP), get the Microeconomics and Macroeconomics versions of this guide.

Disappointing.......2003-02-22

I used Schaum's Oulines to study for my accounting CLEP test, preparing for my MBA program. The Financial and Managerial Accounting titles were excellent. I have also used them to supplement my MBA texts in Operations Management and Financial Management. Overall, the series is lucid and easy to follow. I was expecting this title to follow suit.

Unfortunately, it did not.

The exposition is shoddy at best. Though I could solve the problems as they were given, I found myself struggling to understand economics. Since I was studying to CLEP test out of my prerequisite Micro and Macro Econ, I was concerned. After a few weeks, I purchased Harper Collins' College Outlines' Intro to Economics, and was pleasantly surprised to find that I could understand economics.

Buisiness Study Beginner from Korea.......2000-04-09

I am an old beginner in Economics. I just wanted to study to prepare my CMA certificate. Schaum's series are very popular in Korea, and maybe in the United States also for their selected many problems. That's why I chose this book for my preparation in Economics exam. Economics is very broad and practical studies. This book is written in 1995, 5 years ago from now. Someone feels it is too old to study. But I don't think so, because how much change in 5 years in Economics. The economy of a society is changing a lot in 5 years evidently but the Economics cannot be changed a lot in 5 years even in these E-days! I graduated from school longtime ago, and sometimes I was stupid in my school days because I just studied the text only without so many problems. I am now sure that the problem-driven study is the best way to conquer the complex theory.
