Particle physicists have been looking for scalar fields for a long time: the Higgs field, for example, is crucial in the standard particle physics model but it has not been found so far. Similarly, cosmologists have become interested in scalar fields recently and a few tantalizing hints have surfaced in the past few years which could be viewed as direct or indirect evidence for the presence of scalar fields. This workshop discussed the motivation for the existence of scalar fields in nature, assessed their consequences and identified key distinguishing characteristics that might provide strong interests in the coming years. Examples include the evidence for inflation in the early universe, the recent claim of detection of variations of the fine-structure constant (and also the electron-to-proton mass ratio) and the possible detection of a cosmic string through its graviational effect.

Timing of Biologicl Clocks.......2005-09-14
One of the problems in ordering on the web, is that you can't check out the problem before it arrives. This book is much more Physics and Math than I expected, with not much of the biological aspects that I needed. It is a good book in its own right, but not enough of the Biology that I expected.
Highly collectable.......2001-08-31
Here you will find the best available presentation, with
clear colorful diagrams, of everything about advancing and
delaying biological clocks. There are surprisingly simple
principles, though they are unexpected, being topologically
subtle. Plenty of examples are given in this and that species,
ending with the prediction that all the same will eventually
be found in Man. That actually happened a few years after this
1986 book circulated. There is a pretty good chapter on human
sleep/wake timing, too, some comments on jet-lag that should
help dispel rampant superstition on that subject, and some
chapters on biochemical and chemical oscillators.
None of it is outdated: it seems to be the last
word on these topics. But a big thing is missing. Nothing is
found here about the molecular genetics of the circadian clock.
That is because all that was discovered in the 1990s. For a timely
update see Chapter 19 in the same author's "Geometry of Biological
Time" published in 2001.
If you can get a copy of this out-of-print book (Scientific
American Library sold about 40,000 then went out of business)
it is well worth having just for the pictures in which the
principles of phase resetting are finally made clear, as done
nowhere else, in three-dimensional brilliant color codes.

I'm a multi sport athlete who trains all year round regardless of what sport I play. I bought a few of these Ultimate Guide to Weight Training books, and they definitely helped me train specifically for the different sports that I play. Then about a year later I received an email from amazon that there was a new edition out. These upgraded editions are even better than the originals, with more articles and a lot more sport-specific information. I would definitely recommend this series to anyone who plays a lot of sports or wants to specifically focus on training for one sport in particular.

Bottom line: THIS IS A GREAT BOOK! I've been using it for years and is much more organized and motivating than Lorayne's, Higbee's, Buzan, etc. I can't believe how many people like to point out how Kevin is a convicted felon. Maybe so, but I'd still buy his book. Did he just repackage an idea someone else had? Maybe so, but it's far more entertaining and organized with logical progression than the others I've read. That's worth the price of the book alone. Furthermore, since a majority of the reviews here aren't even for the Mega Memory book, but rather a personal attack on Kevin, I'd like to put in my 2 cents. I've read his other books and they've changed my life for the better. His books aren't more than $15 people! Unless he showed up on your doorstep, conned you out of your life savings, and kicked your dog, I think the criticism is a bit unwarranted. For those of you who want an honest review of this book, listen to me. The book is $10.17. It's very worth it!

The Jetty Chronciles was a fun and easy book that I enjoyed reading! The books main plot was about a boy who shares all his experencies of growing up by a jetty. The book was very well written and flowed togher very well. I really enjoyed taking a break from reading 300 page novles that take a month for me to read to reading a book that I could read in 2 days and really enjoy. I would recommend thso book to anyone who is looking for a fun and easy read.

The book is about a kids childhood and how his life is centered around a "rock". There is no real meaning to all of the adventures but it is a good wast of time if your siting on a rock waching boats go by. I wish I had the time back in my life I wasted reading this book.

Jetty Chronicles is an interesting book about a boy who spent his life out on the jetty in Brooklyn. I enjoyed the different experiences and stories the boy tells about different people he encounters out on the jetty. It relates real experiences anyone could have and what this boy learned from them.

I strongly recommend this book to anyone involved in measuring customer satisfaction, including market research practitioners. It takes the reader on a logical journey from the theories of customer satisfaction/loyalty to the practical realities of conducting a meaningful survey that provides useful and valid information. There are lots of up-to-date examples of scales, analytic procedures, and best practices. I have at least 10 Post-Its in my copy, and expect the book to become well-worn as I am referring to it constantly.

This book considers why institutional forms of modern capitalist economies differ internationally, and proposes a typology of capitalism based on the theory of institutional complementarity. Different economic models are not simply characterized by different institutional forms, but also by particular patterns of interaction between complementary institutions which are the core characteristics of these models. Institutions are not just simply devices which would be chosen by 'social engineers' in order to perform a function as efficiently as possible; they are the outcome of a political economy process. Therefore, institutional change should be envisaged not as a move towards a hypothetical 'one best way', but as a result of socio-political compromises. Based on a theory of institutions and comparative capitalism, the book proposes an analysis of the diversity of modern economies - from America to Korea - and identifies five different models: the market-based Anglo-Saxon model; Asian capitalism; the Continental European model; the social democratic economies; and the Mediterranean model. Each of these types of capitalism is characterized by specific institutional complementarities. The question of the stability of the Continental European model of capitalism has been open since the beginning of the 1990s: inferior macroeconomic performance compared to Anglo-Saxon economies, alleged unsustainability of its welfare systems, too rigid markets, etc. The book examines the institutional transformations that have taken place within Continental European economies and analyses the political project behind the attempts at transforming the Continental model. It argues that Continental European economies will most likely stay very different from the market-based economies, and caat political strategies promoting institutional change aiming at convergence with the Anglo-Saxon model are bound to meet considerable opposition.
