I have been using this with my three older kids for the past year and this method has helped fill in some gaps and bring understanding to even my most grammar-phobic child! My boys (16, 13 and 11) are all using the same level and we review the sentence together daily, but they have all progressed nicely and painlessly. We will continue to supplement our English program with this easy program.

Mrs. Kiester has done it again! Before I found Jane Bell Kiester's books, I didn't have a clear path to follow when teaching writing. The Caught'Ya books solve the problem of teaching your students grammar and mechanics. Each day students are given a sentence to correct that adds to a story line appropriate for their age group. Students become engaged in the learning process throughout the story and often can't wait to see what happens next. Students become intimately involved in the story as they become part of the story when the teacher inserts their name as a character in the story. Although Caught'Ya's are integral to the teaching of grammar and mechanics, the greatest bonus I found in using these wonderful sentences was the fact that students naturally and easily learn to paragraph appropriately. This is a difficult task to teach and for students to understand. Caught'Ya's solve this for teachers and students alike. If you can't purchase any other resource this year, you must purchase one of Jane Bell Kiester's Caught'Ya books! Your students will learn to write in a way that will improve all test scores! Do not hesitate! This is the perfect purchase.

i bought the two books together. the first is an absolute must. the second seems less applicable to me as a high school classroom teacher. a lot of it is directed at parents, tutors and homeschoolers -- if you fall into those categories, this book IS a must for you. i didn't get so much out of it. it does have more pre-fab stories, though. if you're not yet comfortable writing your own, you might want this.

a great "handbook" for teaching language arts.......2000-06-11

As a second-year 7th language arts teacher, I found this book to be an invaluable teaching tool! Following Kiester's proofreading sentence strategies, my students' test scores rose dramatically. The author also gives fantastic tips on enhancing reading and writing instruction, providing effective exercieses and ideas that my students thorougly enjoyed.

I have purchased many professional books / journals seeking to improve my teaching and students' attitudes towards grammar. If only these two books could have been my first purchases, then maybe I wouldn't have a dusty bookshelf full of rarely used teaching ideas. The prequel to this book, called Grammar With a Giggle is also a great buy. Both of these books contain strategies that I will continue to implement and expand upon!

Excellent for all students.......1999-09-07

I used Caught Ya for the first time last year with high schools (up to age nineteen) students who read and write between a third and sixth grade level. This program is excellent and works with all students. It is a strategy that makes even the most challenged students become successful and smart! It is fun and the kids truly enjoyed the challenge of "fixing" the sentence each day. Thanks for making grammar and vocabulary fun to teach! Buy this book.

May I also highly recommend the author's book "Blowing Away the State Writing Assessments". We incorporated it into our curriculum this year and highly recommend her four steps to increasing scores. I only wish the author was part of my faculty.

Although I am only a 'novice' at tying flies, I consider myself somewhat an expert at reading instructive text. Being somewhat of a mizer, I would much rather purchase a book I can peruse hundreds of times than pay for a class, therefore I took the chance on "Tying Classic Freshwater Streamers: An Illustrated Step-by-Step Guide, by David Klausmeyer." David has outdone himself even in the absence of his favorite illustrator, photographer, mentor and close friend Lawrence Largay to whom he dedicates this book.

I have had the book in my possession only a few short weeks and have already tackled some of the fly-patterns listed inside. I found the instructions and illistrations so easily followed that I had completed my first beautiful "Classic Streamer" in less than 20 minutes. I must admit they did not have the quality of the author David Klausmeyer, and I did alter them slightly because I can not yet afford the price of the radiant jungle cock, but I had such a great time I know I will not only try to fish these first flies, but will (in the future) try to tie a few for a presentation frame or two. Furthermore in the back of this text there is a rather large gallery--over 50 pages--of Classic Streamers tied by the best of the best. Taking the risk of repeating myself, this book is the best of the best in instruction and illustruction.
So, if you are a fly-tyer looking for an afternoon to enjoy tying something other than that wooly bugger, stonefly, crawfish, clouser or cypert minnow, then this book is for you. Step back in time when glamorous feathers imitated your favorite baitfish and tie your own Classic Freshwater Streamer.

Beautiful, But Flawed...........2005-11-20

Klausmeyer Produces a Book that is much Needed and Certainly Called for... Methods of Tying Classic Streamer patterns... KLausmeyer Has produced a Book that is Loaded with beautiful Photographs of Beautiful Streamers and Clear Step by Step Photos so that Fly Tyers, who have never Ventured into Tying Classic Streamers Will Be able to Produce Decent Replicas...

However, there are an Above Average Number of Mistakes in the Book... Flies Patterns attributed to Tyers who Never Designed/Originated them... There are at Least 4 Times where I noticed this Occurred in the "Streamer Gallery" at the end of the Book...
Also, There's the Instance of Klausmeyer Misnaming a Wonderful Book...Using the Word "LOST" instead of the Correct "FORGOTTEN"......

Not that these Take away from the Over all Beauty & usefulness of this Book... This Book is Pure "Eye Candy" for the Fly Tyer... The Gallery alone is worth the Price, because of the Often Breath taking Beauty of a great many of the Featured Streamers....
It's Just that Kausmeyer, being the Editor of Fly Tyer magazine, should have done a Better Job at Editing & Researching the Streamers he was going to feature in the Book. If there was a Deadline, It's No excuse for Mis-information & Half-hearted Editing...
I Do Really Enjoy the Book, but the Numerous Mistakes and such take away from what should be a Spotless, Wonderful addition to Any Fly Tyer's Library

I"m not usually a big reader of corporate how-to type books. They're dry, they all have the same jargon, they all say the same thing, and they're all awash in their own self-importance. This book, however, is different. Heisler and Baldino-Jones have done a great job of taking a concept and making it "real", writing an engaging story around a way that they have developed to bring the usually disparate worlds of sales and service under the same umbrella. They really understand how to make that process work, and provide many examples from their own work as a guide to make this type of integration work in your organization as well. And, in a nice bonus, very little jargon - it's all written in a way that is easily understood and not dry and bland. Definitely recommended.

CellMates To SoulMates - A Great Read.......2003-11-16

This is truly a great book and a must read for business leaders in all industries. Mark and Suzanne are not talking about a new fad; I believe converting from CellMates to SoulMates is critical to the survival of companies who have not figured it out.

Having gone through the process of getting sales and operations on the same team and having seen the benefits of the change prior to being introduced to Mark and Suzanne, I highly recommend embarking on the change process. That said, this book will be of great assistance, and may even be the difference between success and failure.

Every company is different and requires its' own plan and leadership. This is not a "cook book" where you pour in some ingredients and bake it for one hour and everything comes out just the way you want it. Instead, this is a guide book or a map that helps you decide where you want to go and then points you in the right direction. You have to supply the thought processes for your company, your politics, etc. It will allow you to gain an understanding of the need for as well as the process you must go through in order to be successful.

The examples in this book are numerous and extremely helpful in understanding the why as well as the how to.

It is not rocket science but it is tough work. As the book points out, the benefits are huge but there are dangers and hardships to consider as well. This book will help you identify those areas and avoid the pitfalls.

Heisler and Jones have created a practical and realistic approach to one of the more vexing problems that occur as companies interface. Their method is based on sound psychological priciples that have been successfully applied to other areas of human interaction. The clarity and conciseness of their writng makes this a very readable book.

This book takes stock of Madagascar's first 10 years of decentralization. As it happened in many other developing countries, particularly in Africa, Madagascar's decentralization process has seen reversals, uncertainties and lack of clarity all along. This explains why Madagascar, despite the experience with decentralization, remains a highly centralized country with only about 3-4 percent of expenditures spent below the center and with very few prerogatives decentralized to the local level.

Notwithstanding the structural impediments to decentralization in poor countries, many positive lessons can be drawn from the Madagascar case which point to the potentials of the decentralization process. This study provides a detailed analysis of local government finances and develops a methodology for measuring local financing needs (local fiscal gap methodology). Based on this analysis, the study argues that a lot can be gained from simplifying administrative arrangements and fiscal relationships. Instead of a full-blown and ambitious decentralization strategy, this book suggests a number of reforms, which would go a long way by making the current structure work better. These reforms include: (i) a full transfer of the (limited) local competencies to commune, particularly local revenue collection; (ii) increasing transfers to rural communes so that per capita allocations would be the same across communes—rural and urban; and (iii) assigning revenues to one level of govern! ment only, except for some very specific types of taxes (such as on natural resources).
