This book's got nothing to do with mastering technical anaysis. It is so brief that it intends neither elementary nor intermediate nor advanced readers. It is only recommended to those who want to refresh the titles in technical anaysis from a new source.

TA this isn't.......2001-07-30

This is NOT a book that will help you pick stocks using TA, it is about (as far as it's about anything) working out general market sentiment, ie will the DOW go up or down. For individual stock picks, how to tell from a chart which way the price is going, it is completely useless. Given that Technical Analysis, in most investors' minds, involves chart reading, and understanding indicators (RSI etc), this book is misleadingly labelled - there is one (short) section with a few OHLC diagrams, not very useful at that. There are many books that cover the topic, this isn't one of them.

Written in clear, concise language and covers the topic well. I have bought several tech. analysis books and none others cover the topic as well or with such clear explanations. Recommended for the novice and non-tecky reader.

This book really explained how technical indicators work. I have bought several books before this but didnt understand because the treatment was not practical. This book explains things clearly. How refreshing!

This book is not a highly "technical" treatment of the topic like so many investment books. It is aimed at the typical investor who wants to know what technical indicators are, how they work, and most of all, how they can help improve investment performance. Too many books are academic and impractical, and this book is designed to help you understand what works and, more to the point, what does not work. I have been writing professionally since 1978, and before that I was in the accounting business. I began writing books aimed to help average people master problems. My goal is to explain things honestly and thoroughly. In this book, I use a lot of examples, graphics, highlighted key points, and other tools to assist you. "Mastering Technical Analysis" is not like other books on the topic. I find that most investment books in general tend to be overly technical and do not provide easy to follow guidelines for making smart investment decisions. In addition, most books do not challenge some of the inane indicators popularly followed, like the typical market indicators (which provide you nothing of value in deciding what to do in your portfolio). Some insiders will not like this book because it does not go along with some market myths; but I think most investors will appreciate the information and point of view that the book provides.

The author of this book is an accountant that has written numerous books on numerous business subjects,,,he obviously is a jack of all??? definately not a Master of Technical analysis,,,The book is redundant and does not cover the subject matter well at all.....

The book is the first comprehensive introduction to x-ray and neutron reflectivity techniques and illustrates them with many examples. After a pedagogical introduction, the interplay between the statistics of rough surfaces and interfaces and the scattering of radiation is considered in detail. Specular reflectivity and diffuse scattering are discussed next. The approximations are rigorously introduced and many experimental effects are discussed. In the case of neutron reflectivity, particular attention is paid to the reflectivity of polarized neutrons from magnetic multilayers, which allows the determination of in-plane magnetization profiles. Many applications are reviewed in the second part: rough surfaces, interfaces and multilayers, liquid surfaces and soft-condensed matter, and thin polymer films. In each case the underlying physics is first introduced, then specific experimental methods are described. The book addresses researchers and graduate students.

I love this book! I've researched the topic of ecology and the Catholic faith for about three years now, and have found this outstanding book to be one of the best on the subject. Fr. Mick provides a clear and concise overview of the connections between liturgy and ecology. The book describes some of the most important sources of the Church's teachings, including Scripture, the writings of Pope John Paul II, bishops, and saints. If you're interested in ecology and Christian faith, this is a great place to start! The book would serve as an excellent resource for personal and small group reflection and discussion. ...

Simply put, the first edition was great and the revise editions just keeps everything up to date. This is a great book, a must for any serious backpacker or wilderness leader. Highly Recommended!

Excellent if you don't stray too far from civilization.......2007-07-25

A distinction must be made between "outdoor" books that assume that your trip into the wilderness happens in the context of a working civil society, i.e. you buy food at the store, you have your tent, your map, maybe a GPS, and if you are in trouble a competent attempt will be made to rescue you. Then there are the "survival" books which assume that if you don't do "it" (gather food, build a shelter, find water, etc.) yourself, it ain't gonna happen. Maybe you can get help, but maybe other humans even pose a danger to your life, perhaps because of violent behavior, stupidity, clumsiness, or for whatever reason.

This book falls mainly into the first category, but makes interesting forays into the second. Perhaps the strongest impression is left by the First Aid section (which is also the longest). If you are really in an emergency, in which case you will definitely not have the time to read five pages on the Heimlich maneuver or whatever, this is probably the book you should pick up in a hurry. Of course ideally, you should know the content of the section by rote, but the descriptions are short yet detailed enough that they can be read quickly and confer all the vital information. A variety of more obscure illnesses are included that you will probably not find covered in other First Aid texts.

The nutrition section is quite short and the recipes are probably not something you would want to eat every day -- burritos, pizza, pesto. Don't expect any information on game, edible berries or the like...

A number of good sections cover such things as crossing a river or bearproofing your camp. These are well-written and stress the importance of understanding the situation first before acting. Along the same lines, there is an extensive review of leadership skills -- this is definitely an outdoor book for the thinking man.

All in all a thorough book, but if you are in situation where help does not arrive after a short while, it might not be enough. The SAS Survival Handbook: How to Survive in the Wild, in Any Climate, on Land or at Sea would be an excellent complement to this book and nicely covers those things which the BFM leaves out.

Solid Backpacking.......2007-05-26

I have Backpacking since the 1960s and yes an old dog can learn new tricks. Sometimes it is good to review our old habits. This is one of those good uptodate Backpacking books.

Good All-Around Book.......2007-01-27

The Backpacker's Field Manual is probably one of the better introductory books out there. Not only that, but it has valuable information for even the most experienced backpacker. It is layed out fairly well, and written in a fairly straightforward manner.

The biggest downside I see is the author's ideas of Leave No Trace camping, which seem to be taken to an extreme (the author says that one should scatter sticks, pinecones, and such over your campsite after you break camp so as to look like no one has been there). While this is, in my opinion, a backpacking style difference, it was enough of an issue for me to drop it down from a five star to a four star.

Not only that, but the author is primarily interested in sharing tradional (heavy) backpacking advice, with little to offer the lightweight of ultralight backpacker. Still, some of the techniques mentioned are excellent advice for any backpacker and the section on first aid is very detailed.

While this book is called a field manual, I would leave it at home due to the weight of this book. That said, it's definately one I feel every backpacker should have at home!

Good starter.......2007-01-09

This is an excellent book for the new hiker or the veteran. I would highly recommend it to any Boy Scout group as a supplement to BSA material. I actually used the land navigation portion to teach my Infantry Platoon, because it was better than the Army Common Task Manual. You cannot lose with this book.

Great for the Intermediate Spanish Speaker!.......2006-05-05

If you already have a basic knowledge of Spanish then this will be of great use to you if you want to make the step up to Business level conversation. The cd and accompanying book is pretty comprehensive and if you don't have too much time to devote to a proper classroom setting, then this is a good idea as you can play the cd in the car while you are commuting or at home while you are doing the household chores and you can always go back to the book as a guide to see that you are on track. This is probably the next best thing to having an actual teacher by your side.

This was a very easy read and a good book. It dealed with issues that teens today have to deal with like bullying, trying to fit in, and being able to stand up for yourself. The best part was that this book only took me about one hour to read because it was so easy and good. I would recommend this book to anyone especially teens because of the issues dealt with in the book.
