Amazing illustrations, and content!!!!.......2004-05-08
This book was truly amazing. It gave me (someone from ohio) a true insight about what lobstering is really about! The pictures are great and the story line very descriptive and intuitive. I would def. reccomend this book to anyone that has kids or no kids. Please buy.
Amazing and educational.......2003-11-18
My 5 and 6 year olds absolutely love this book. This book is as close to lobstering my kids will probably ever get. In that regard, it is packed with useful information about how lobsters are caught and what other kinds of things end up in a lobster trap. This interesting thing about this book, aside from the lifelike illustrations, is that it tells the reader why some lobsters get tossed back (i.e. too small or have eggs attached). It shows the reader how the lobsterman measures the lobster to ensure it is not too small. A lesson in conservation rolled up into a delightful story. Buy this book. You and your children will NOT be disappointed. My kids have read this book about 6 times in 10 days. That's the kind of results you want to get kids reading.
Learned a lot!.......2003-08-26
My daughter and son enjoy this book and learned something about lobsters. We think the pictures are pretty incredible!
Should have done his homework.......2001-06-07
This has to be one of the worst books on lobstering I have ever read. The information is poorly researched, and the quality of the illustrations are also, sadly, second rate. I have read in his biography that Mr. Pallotta was a lobster fisherman, but sadly he has done his fellow fisherman a grave diservice in writing this book...
details the occupation of lobstering - great for kids!.......1998-09-29
My son and I go to Maine for vacations. We picked up this book and have begun picking up lobster toys. He really loves it!

Pearson Explores Archetypes for Personal Growth.......2007-08-10
Carol Pearson, co-creator of the Pearson-Marr Archetypes Indicator, explores 12 archetypes "to help us find ourselves and transform our world." Transformation, in this case, seems to be an inner journey of revising our self-concept, deepening and enriching our ideas about others, and gaining new insights, rather than a program for material engagement with outer circumstances.
Purchaser can take the Heroic Myth Index (HMI; I am not sure how this differs from the PMAI, a proprietary instrument) to find out what archetypes are strongest in you. It is an interesting activity. The description of each archetypes tells about its spiritual journey. Self-growth exercises are proposed at the end of the chapter. As well, Pearson includes useful background information about achieving inner balance. The writing is sometimes a bit stodgy, and I prefer more examples. This is outweighed by Pearson's credentials as a professional whose research has contributed to our understanding and use of archetypes as tools for personal understanding and growth.
Bringing understanding and intention to relationships.......2007-01-29
It's easy to forget the good things and focus on the problems. This is a delightful book that reminds us to seek the best in each other and to live with the intention to create a great relationship.
An excellent (and enjoyable) guide to understanding and developing the archetypal energies in your life.......2007-01-19
This book is based on Carol Pearson's extensive study and experience of the archetypes (i.e. magician, lover, caregiver, warrior, fool, destroyer etc.) a little Jungian psychology and her personal and consulting experience. The reader can do a survey in the back to see which archetypes are most active in their life (I found the survey in the back to be fairly accurate) and then read about those archetypes, how they express and there's some guidance for the development of each archetype at the end of each chapter in the form of practical exercises. There's extensive examples and discussion of each archetype drawing from a number of perspectives and sources including popular culture, movies, other author's work and a discussion of the different levels of development of each archetype including the shadow side, addictions and compulsions of each.... some of which you may be (intimately) familiar with!
This book begins with some general discussion and background information, an outline of the Soul and the Self and how growing through the archetypes can be related to the hero's journey, which is then followed by an in depth discussion of each archetype. If you're interested in self development, you may try looking at doing some of the exercises around the archetypes you don't have much awareness or development in. Many people would find this quite challenging, for instance, for the person who takes themselves too seriously (I'm talking from experience here!) could spend a week taking nothing seriously and exploring the archetype of the fool, and how the expression and experience of that archetype can enhance one's life.
If you've read and enjoyed Pearson's other books or have an interest in archetypal energies, or just an interest in exploring your own character, then this is a great and easy place to start. This book also includes notes in the back with references for further study.
Pearson has made work with and the study of the archetypes her life work and you will learn much from a study of this and her other works.
An easy-to-read yet rigorous entry point into self analysis.......2000-01-23
As a software developer and mathematician presently in my early 60's, ever since I can remember I have always been long on technology and short on "people" knowledge Yet from my early adolescence I remember my dad telling me how important it is to know oneself. While I always agreed with this good advice, whenever I explored my soul, I seemed to fail to come up with meaningful, non-judgemental answers - possibly because my questions themselves were not thought provoking.
Enter Ms Peason and her "Heros Within" book. Her brilliant, accessible review of the 12 archetypes that define our personalities suddenly provided me with a new handle - a key to a better understanding of myself and others. What I particularly appreciated in her book was its combination of a rigurous, scientific treatment of the subject, couched in a language both accessible and devoid of academic circumlucutions. I would reccomend her book to anyone who wants to understand himself/herself better and/or redefine his/her professional and personal life.
Nice Tool for Self-Definition.......1998-11-30
I'm a Creator and a Magician!--who wouldn't be happy to have learned that? I'm also a gardener, a teacher, an artist, an adopted grandmother, a community worker, and I have a lot of other roles in life. Because I read this book, I recognize my strengths and my inclinations better, and I know what to emphasize in my work and in my relationships. I'm glad I read this, and I'm giving copies to others who are unsure about their strengths and how to apply them. Thanks!

Book Description
This book/software edition provides a complete set of computational models that describe the physical phenomena associated with scanning tunneling microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and related technologies. Its self-contained presentation spares researchers the valuable time spent hunting through the technical literature in search of prior theoretical results required to understand the models presented. Mathematica code for all examples is included both in the book and at the accompanying ftp site, affording the freedom to change, at will, the values and parameters of specific problems or even modify the programs themselves to suit various modeling needs.
Exploring Scanning Probe Microscopy with Mathematica is both a solid professional reference and an advanced-level text, beginning with scanning probe microscopy basics and moving on to cutting-edge techniques, experiments, and theory. In the section devoted to atomic force microscopy, Dr. Sarid describes the mechanical properties of cantilevers, atomic force microscope tip-sample interactions, and cantilever vibration characteristics. This is followed by an in-depth treatment of theoretical and practical aspects of tunneling phenomena, including metal-insulator-metal tunneling and Fowler-Nordheim field emission. The final section features chapters covering density of states in arbitrary dimensions, quantum wells and dots, and electrostatics.

A ready made computational lab - all your own.......2004-06-19
There is a considerable body of theory behind Atomic Force Microscopy/STM. In how it works, and in the modelling of the potential energy at a surface under study. This can be a problem for those who want to use an AFM, and who might perhaps be new to the field. At the modelling level, the book shows the multitude of possible models, and their associated parameters, that can be used. This presents an obstacle. Because typically, you have to start by building those computational model code bodies from scratch, based on guidelines in books or papers.
This is especially a problem if you are an experimentalist, where your interests are not necessarily in modelling.
Sarid does the reader a huge favour. By offering not just equations, but functional code, implemented in a Mathematica framework, that you can tweak to your delight. Basically, the book and its website give you a computational lab, fully equipped.
The book also shows how Mathematica has become indispensible in research, by providing the necessary computational framework.

Book Description
Scanning Probe Microscopes: Applications in Science and Technology explains, analyzes, and demonstrates the most widely used microscope in the family of microscopes -- the scanning probe microscope. Beginning with an introduction to the development of SPMs, the author introduces the basics of scanning tunneling and atomic force microscopes (STMs and AFMs) along with other types of SPMs. He describes the different apparatus, delineates the method of calibration, and provides extensive references and experimental procedures. Each subsequent chapter explores a different kind of molecular species or system. Lipid-like molecules and the contribution of SPMs to our understanding of self-assembly monolayers receive particular attention, as do applications involving macromolecules, such as DNA, and those related to nanotechnology. The author brings to this project his recent, intensive involvement with state-of-the-art STM and AFM microscopes and provides both basic and advanced information in a single volume. While useful to seasoned researchers, Scanning Probe Microscopes will prove especially valuable to newcomers to the field, both as a textbook and as a guide to the expansive literature.
Customer Reviews:
Why was this book written?.......2004-11-22
This text is not up-to-date with the latest developments in SPM techniques, even though it has a fairly recent copyright. The material that is covered is poorly organized. The author fails to develop a discussion on one technique before moving into another. I'm not sure why the author felt the need to write this book, as it generally doesn't provide any current or complete discussion of any modern SPM methods.
Book Description
As the characteristic dimensions of electronic devices continue to shrink, the ability to characterize their electronic properties at the nanometer scale has come to be of outstanding importance. In this sense, Scanning Probe Microscopy (SPM) is becoming an indispensable tool, playing a key role in nanoscience and nanotechnology. SPM is opening new opportunities to measure semiconductor electronic properties with unprecedented spatial resolution. SPM is being successfully applied for nanoscale characterization of ferroelectric thin films. In the area of functional molecular materials it is being used as a probe to contact molecular structures in order to characterize their electrical properties, as a manipulator to assemble nanoparticles and nanotubes into simple devices, and as a tool to pattern molecular nanostructures. This book provides in-depth information on new and emerging applications of SPM to the field of materials science, namely in the areas of characterisation, device application and nanofabrication of functional materials. Starting with the general properties of functional materials the authors present an updated overview of the fundamentals of Scanning Probe Techniques and the application of SPM techniques to the characterization of specified functional materials such as piezoelectric and ferroelectric and to the fabrication of some nano electronic devices. Its uniqueness is in the combination of the fundamental nanoscale research with the progress in fabrication of realistic nanodevices. By bringing together the contribution of leading researchers from the materials science and SPM communities, relevant information is conveyed that allows researchers to learn more about the actual developments in SPM applied to functional materials. This book will contribute to the continuous education and development in the field of nanotechnology.

Customer Reviews:
A great source of inspiration.......2005-12-28
As a younger woman and recent breast cancer survivor, I found this book to be a great source of healing. It was validating and uplifting to read testimonies from other women that faced challenges in their lives. Sister Surfer reminded me of what's important in life: fun in the sun! After reading this book, I had my first surf lesson and had a blast. I can't wait to hit the waves again!
Surfs up, Courage up.......2005-12-16
Sister Surfer is a great inspiration. I picked up the book for a friend but had to buy a second copy for myself.
Who doesn't want to surf? Starting is the hardest part. Sister Surfer de-mystifies surfing and makes it accessible to everyone. You do not need to be twenty, athletic, and bikini clad. The wide range of women of different ages and experiences featured in the book help to reinforce the idea that anyone can surf. Women like camaraderie and this book makes you feel like you are part of a community even if you haven't started surfing yet. The lessons in the book can be taken into every other part of your life where courage needs to overcome fear.
The book is beautifully done with lots of graphics and great photos of women with the huge smiles that come from conquering fear or achieving a dream. The style of the book allows you to either skim for relevant topics or read it from cover to cover.
1/2 Inspiration + 1/2 How To = A great read........2005-11-16
I have sand caught between the pages of this book, because it motivated me to get in the water ASAP. A highly recommended read for those who seek the waves. Kia Afcari and Mary Osborne have shown me that surfing is more than a sport, it is rebirth.

Yhis book seems to be helful but if you do not know
the language at all it is difficult. But is helps
to have the explanations to make words and learn the
symbols to use.
Your First 100 Words in Korean : Beginner's Quick & Easy Guide to Demystifying Korean Script.......2007-06-10
It is one of good books for someone who starts to learn Korean.
Good concept - Bad choice of words.......2007-01-09
I am trying to learn enough Korean to be able to function in Korea even if on my own. The words chosen for the flash cards are not much help for what I wanted (unless I am at the zoo). This is a great concept but...if you are like me and want to learn words that will help you communicate in everyday situations save some money and make your own flash cards.
Great start.......2005-09-21
This would have been 5 stars but I don't like the english phonetic translation of the Korean characters. It is better to learn the Korean alphabet and use it to learn words.
The book is great, simple to follow. It may be designed for kids, with all the Korean word games etc... but it helped me retain what I had learned and I strongly reccommend this as a starting point for studying Korean.
It comes with cards you cut out and can carry around and use to help study when you have a spare minute.
It is good value for money.
Present from my Korean wife.......2005-03-17
My Korean wife chose this book for me as a beginning. I have yet to find a more advanced book that I like as much. It was fun to use, and very easy. I found the romanization helpful while I was learning the Korean characters (Hangul).
A great way to start.
I see there is now a version available with CD. That should be even better, but I haven't had a chance to listen to the CD.

Book Description
In this thrilling journey into the mysteries of our cosmos, bestselling author Michio Kaku takes us on a dizzying ride to explore black holes and time machines, multidimensional space and, most tantalizing of all, the possibility that parallel universes may lay alongside our own.
Kaku skillfully guides us through the latest innovations in string theory and its latest iteration, M-theory, which posits that our universe may be just one in an endless multiverse, a singular bubble floating in a sea of infinite bubble universes. If M-theory is proven correct, we may perhaps finally find answer to the question, “What happened before the big bang?” This is an exciting and unforgettable introduction into the new cutting-edge theories of physics and cosmology from one of the pre-eminent voices in the field.
Customer Reviews:
illustrating and entretaining.......2007-08-23
The book gives a understandable review for the curious layman of the exciting ideas in cosmology and correlated areas , like string theory
it is spiced with personal details about the scientist involved
All over it is a exciting expirience and a highly recomended book
Parallel Worlds: A Journey Through Creation, Higher Dimensions, and the Future of the Cosmos.......2007-08-16
This book is actually to be a Christmas gift, so I haven't opened it. It arrived very quickly and in good condition. Thank you for expediting it.
Great Introduction for the layman.......2007-08-12
I truly enjoyed this book. It covers very profound subjects in a manner that the average layman can understand. With this book, I had to read it in small bites. Each page was packed to thought provoking ideas. After reading a little, I wanted to just sit, think and reflect. It is good book to read with others. The ideas need to be discussed to be absorbed.
I enjoyed the cosmology, the string theory, M-theory, and the standard model. I had heard about them but I never knew much about them. The author lets you know which areas are hotly debated in the science world. Most books about this subject have too much math for me to work through.
The ending was a little too much.
It's A Possibility.......2007-08-02
Michio Kaku has created a scenario of possibilities in the evolution of this world. Kaku explores the potentials of parallel worlds and realities. In quantum physics anything is possible. Kudos for Kaku. Bettye Johnson, award-winning author, Secrets of the Magdalene Scrolls.
Science Fiction.......2007-07-11
Kaku has an agreeable, engaging writing style that makes some of the more challenging physics and mathematics accessbile to the layman. Where I felt my interest waning, however, was in the section where he discusses at considerable length various exit strategies from the universe trillions of years from now when it will come to an end. A page (at most) would have sufficed to cover this scenario; instead he went on and on about the various possibilities for intelligent beings to escape from our universe into parallel worlds. The death of our universe is too distant an event for us to be expending too much brain power now on devising contingency plans.
