Endangered species-- spotted owls and salmon are my backyard issues- I've also worked with community based resource management and environmental conflicts for the past 15 years . .Yaffe presents powerful arguments that we are facing not solely a biological crisis but also a crisis in how we as a society make public policy decisions and manage resources.He documents 25 years of failure in forest management, inability or unwillingness to overcome barriers of integrating natural systems management into agency bureaucracies. It's solid, good reading. I underlined sentences on every page. Recommend it strongly as a guide to the lessons we need to learn if we are to "reinvent" resource management. excellent!

This book had a great title and came recommended to me by a professor at Utah State University. I whish I could say how educational it was or how it held my attention, but I had a hard time getting through just about ever page I read. You would need a list a mile long to keep up with the abbriviations used by the author. I know there are a lot of abbreviations used in the government and private sectors of natural resource managment, but having a degree in Natural Resources didn't prepare me to keep up with this one. Usually no matter how uninteresting a book is you can get by if you have to. I just couldn't keep going with it through the end.

Mark Hatmaker is an intelligent, articulate teacher of western fighting disciplines. I got so much from this book that I ordered the others in the series as well. Although it is a good overview and introduction to various techniques for beginners, Mark covers enough of the details and nuances to make the information useful to experienced grapplers as well. He conveys the information effectively in written format, and his videos are good, too.

This book has lots of information for the self-taught. This is the sort of book the beginner would find useful. It has those basic techniques everybody has seen in MMA fights, as well as drills and advices to correctly apply them. I immediately bought the other books of the series and found them very good too.

And being tiny helps taking them to the training if needed.

I wish there were more books about submission wrestling like this one and I had not wasted my money in books about "BJJ mind sets" or Sprague's grappling for real life situations...

Great Submission Wrestling and MMA Grappling Manual.......2005-09-16

Grappling in MMA is about efficiency and simplicity. Hatmaker is one of those very few 'intellectual' instructors. He isn't as physically gifted as some others and has really studied to get to where he is. This is obvious in his videos, and in this book.

Hatmaker shows basic, high percentage techniques that work. More importantly he shows how string together to create sequences. As I said, MMA is about simplicity. These high percentage techniques work in the fast paced, sweaty environment of MMA. Some of the techniques might be considered a little eager by some standards (eg. Neck Cranks) but are legal in MMA and fair game in the street, as well.

Additionally, Hatmaker's methods are a useful changeup from the usual BJJ based grappling instructionals. Hatmaker weaves the efficiency of Jiu Jitsu with the more physical wrestling base that is so effective in MMA. And, he does it well.

This book is a simple and effective introduction to grappling for MMA and the street. Especially for those who already know how to strike. Hatmaker's materials have certainly helped me in MMA, Brasilian Jiu Jitsu and Submission Wrestling.

Questionable techniques.......2005-07-18

I agree with some of the other reviewers that the techniques in this book are not the best. For example, 1)the attacker crossing his feet during armbar and, 2) the attackee rolling in the oppisite direction of an armbar trusting that his clasped hands will be more powerful than the attacker's legs and arms. The first can result in a painful footlock, and the second will most likely result in a fracture of the elbow when the hand clasp is broken. If you buy this book make sure that you also buy a book by the Gracies and/or the Machados.

The book was sold as used,and I was expecting a few marks on the book. The book I received was in NEW condition. There were no markings on the book,the pages were not"dog eared", and the cover pages was still shinny. In fact I had to remove the gummy substance left behind by the original price tag. GREAT VALUE! for the money.

The delivery was faster that I expected, I received it within four days.

I highly recommend AARON MARTIN as a seller, and look forward to doing business with him in the future!

I ordered this book because it was on a list of required texts for a class I am currently enrolled in. I wish I had this book years ago; it would have helped a great deal in high school and in the time since then in college and even in helping my younger brother to write his reports. Not only does it give the basic mechanics of writing but it also completely explains the MLA, APA, and Chicago styles of documentation. Each section has a thumb tab and an index for ease in finding needed info.

This is a short book which takes little time in bringing the substance to the surface. It is a compilation of articles from the journal, "Call Center Management Review". The authors do not take the time to "be nice." It is short, to the point, and of vital help to the first time call center manager. Picking up some of the "shorthand" references isn't difficult, but necessary.

I found this book enlightening. It's a small book with lots of information. It reviews forcasting call volumes using quantative and judgemental approaches. It discusses call center basics such as the nature of an incoming call and the Pooling Principle. It touches on staffing and getting the people where they need to be at the right time. For a call center veteran like me, it help to reinforce and improve my knowledge. For anyone new to a call center, it's a great book to learn the dynamics of call center operation.
