Book Description
Quantitative Data Analysis with SPSS Release 12.0 provides both a non-technical introduction to quantitative data analysis and a user-friendly approach to SPSS. Thoroughly updated for SPSS Release 12.0, the new edition will also be applicable to those using SPSS Release 11.5 and below. As with previous editions, the authors concentrate on the key issues facing the newcomer to research, such as how to decide which statistical procedure is suitable, and how to interpret the subsequent results. Each chapter includes worked examples to illustrate the points raised, and ends with a set of exercises which allow the reader to test their understanding of each topic. The authors do not assume any previous knowledge of either statistics or computing, but instead take the reader step-by-step through the most common procedures and techniques, including:
* ANOVA
* Simple and multiple regression
* Correlation
* Factor Analysis.
The new edition of this hugely successful textbook will guide the reader through the basics of quantitative data analysis, and become an essential reference tool for students and researchers alike.

Personal Learning Insights Profile
Manufacturer: Inscape Publishing, Inc.
ProductGroup: Book
Binding: Paperback
ASIN: B000I5H8XY |
Product Description
The Personal Learning Insights Profile is a self-directed learning instrument that helps people identify and understand how they experience, process, organize, store, and retrieve information. The profile provides a valid, reliable framework for exploring three important components of cognitive learning:
Learning Purpose. Some people have more of a desire to learn when the information is practical and can be put to use immediately. Others are more interested in learning when the information is new and informative, but not necessarily useful at that time.
Learning Structure. Some people prefer to have information presented in a specific format so they can easily make connections and see what's coming next. Others prefer a more general format so they can create their own structure for the information and organize it so it makes sense to them.
Learning Activity. Some people prefer to participate actively with others when learning. They enjoy discussion and participating in a variety of learning activities. Others are more reflective in their learning. After taking in new information, they prefer to take some time to consider it before reacting.
Invest in Learning Today for Tomorrow's Success
The Personal Learning Insights Profile helps individuals and facilitators clearly understand and communicate different learning needs, develop effective formal learning opportunities, and capitalize on informal learning across a wide range of applications, including the following:
personal and career development
management and leadership development
performance improvement
communication skills
group facilitation skills
team building
coaching and mentoring
Light the Way to Individual, Team, and Organizational Learning
Organizations use the Personal Learning Insights Profile to help people:
understand what motivates them to learn
develop action plans to maximize learning
design learning resources and experiences that meet diverse needs

Customer Reviews:
Design High quality as is the writing.......2006-05-29
The subject matter in this book is handled well, engaging and is well written. I was put off by a lack of an index as I was using the book for research but was glad for the endnotes and reference material mentioned. Great book on midwest farm culture.
One interesting point to note as a graphic designer I was impressed creative dust jacket on this book which featured a half fold on the front cover and folded out to reveal a map. The quality of design should be noted, usually history books of this type have appalling design.
Excellent Portrayal of Rural Life.......2003-07-01
Hildebrand's book is some of the best literary nonfiction I've read. His characters are well-developed. Because of that, the reader is drawn into the farm and, ultimately, its plight. This book does an excellent job of depicting rural life. It's very true to life (which is good, since it's nonfiction). EXCELLENT BOOK, highly recommended.

Although this is not my most favorite Astronomy book, it definitely at the top of the list. It's a fairly easy read that I think apeals to people with or without astronomy backgrounds. A definite must have for the astronomy section on your bookshelf.

Book Description
By the Sword is an epic history of sword fighting—a science, an art, and, for many, a religion that began at the dawn of civilization in ancient Egypt and has been an obsession for mankind ever since. With wit and insight, Richard Cohen gives us an engrossing history of the world via the sword.
Customer Reviews:
Beware the pedants - they are often wrong.......2007-02-17
I am the author's wife and I'm posting his review below...
Beware the pedants - they are often wrong
It is some time since I looked at the reviews of my book, and I am very grateful for the appreciative ones. However, there seems to be a feeling that the book is littered with errors. Not so. In so long a text,over 500 pages, a few were bound to creep in, but so far I have had to correct less than a dozen, all of them minor - and that includes errors pointed out to me in letters I have received from medieval historians and other specialists.A revised edition in the summer of 2008 will bring the whole story of fencing up to date, and have every error I have been informed about corrected.
One continuing charge is that I overrate Errol Flynn as a fencer and underrate Tyrone Power. Well, here I stick to my guns (or foils). My own coach, the supreme Hollywood swordmaster Bob Anderson (as detailed in the book), trained Flynn, and though Flynn was no great technician he was such a gifted sportsman (tennis champion, Olympic boxing try-out, you name it) that his fencing was remarkably convincing. Power, on the other hand, was overweight when making his so-called great Zorro film; in the key scene, he is often unbalanced, ill-coordinated and flat-footed. I say this not as someone out to 'get' Power, but simply as an international fencer of many years who knows sloppy fencing when he sees it. As for Basil Rathbone, he was much better, but still no more than an adequate club fencer - as many contemporaries attest. If someone tells you differently just don't believe them.
- Richard Cohen
In spite of the errors..........2007-01-26
I was sorry to hear about the historical errors in this book (without them 5 stars), but that doesn't take away from the quality of read. The best content in the book concerns the more recent history of fencing, anyway. Most notably the chapter on cheating in the sport and the portraits of such famous masters and competitors as Aldo Nadi, Emil Beck, and Helene Mayer. Mr. Cohen is a gifted writer and this book is a delight to read. I hope future editions of this book will make an effort to correct the mistakes, after which I will gladly add it to my library. A must-read for students of the sword.
Highly inaccurate.......2006-11-29
As some of the mistakes in this book have been listed, I will just deal with the Hollywood stuff, which is TOTALLY INCORRECT:
- Errol Flynn was NOT an accomplished swordsman
- Tyrone Power was an EXPERT swordsman who NEVER - read this - NEVER used a double. Basil Rathbone, also an expert swordsman, said "Tyrone Power could fence Errol Flynn into a cocked hat." Rathbone and Power's swordfight in "The Mark of Zorro" is considered the best ever filmed.
I have no idea where Mr. Cohen got his information, but I can personally attest that it is completely inaccurate and an insult to Power to boot, whose expertise was well known.
Bad book. Period.......2006-11-16
One more time, an anglo saxon writer took the chance to write a book where everything is justified thorugh anglo saxon eyes.
History is just a flow of events where only english (americans) or french had a role.
The book is pretty much full of historical mistakes, over than exposing everything always with the purpose to highlight the english, american (sic!) or french culture, maliciously dening or just ignoring other cultures (greater cultures) achievements.
Historically accurate but broad enough to cover Hollywood.......2006-07-18
I found this book useful for my research into the social context of fenching, for a book I was researching. It is well written and entertaining. Also enjoyed the breadth of coverage which includes chapters on "show" fencing such as Hollywood swash-bucklers.

Super Insights.......2007-03-22
This chattly volume by a team of husband and wife social scientists offers great insight into the workings of the human personality, and how to handle it.
Excellent process for insight........2007-02-13
This is a well written description of the various aspects of the self. As psychotherapists they are able to use working examples to follow a process for discovering the complexities and hidden characteristics that make up the "whole" self. Well worth the read and very helpful if you're looking for practical help.
Brilliant, Enlightening, A must for all inner seekers.......2005-07-24
These two authors are revolutionary in their scope, breath, and personal integration of thier information. As you read this book you know that they truly understand their work and are genuinely on the path they show. These authors are to be admired and appreciated for the transformational work they bring to the field of psychology.
A Must-Read for Learning to Integrate all your selves!.......2005-07-15
This book truly was the one that changed my life completely and helped me understand all those voices and selves inside me. What a revelation!
Also check out their lesser known classic "You Don't Have to Write a Book!" by Sidra Stone and Hal Stone.
Excellent Method in Self Awareness.......2005-03-21
Excellent book. The book does not directly explain at first what it is trying to entail, but as the reader digresses through the various voice dialogues with the interviewer or facilitator, the development of the larger picture is perceived. And I must say, this particular model has stuck with me for quite some time in many other books and teachings I have read, as well as personally experienced in my life. This book really does convey a rather substantial paradgm of human psychology.
The ideas conveyed in this book is that of each individual consists of multiple energies or self personalities, each conveying a different part of ourselves. With such voice dialogues, the awareness level of our consciousness increases, our aware ego or observer ego has the ability to gain awareness and perceive silent separateness from our divided energies. We become able to bring or higher selves to obtain an observer's view of our various selves, both the energies we use to control and depend on, as well as those we repress and disown. Anotherwards, it opens us up in awareness to ourselves. We become aware of our hidden observer where we can objectively view all of our different energy patterns or personalities which we use and depend on and those we reject and disown.
What is conveyed is how we are to cease repressing our disowned selves, by honoring and listening to such demonic parts of ourselves, while at the same time, continuing to let our positive energies that we currently use to guide us to continually do so. Throughout the book conversations are conveyed which portray the most common various personalities most of us have.
At the end of the book, the last chapter has a wonderful illustration on Greek mythology and the parallel of a disowned personality, as in the case of Apollo disowning Dionysus and the story of King Pentheus and his denial and disowning of the new god, Dionysus and the disastrous outcome from repressing and disowning this new god.

Kagan - Legendary Designer, Admirable Person.......2005-05-13
Highly recommended book for coffee table or reference! Kagan's New York Collection is stunning, but the Classic pieces are simply awe inspiring. Vladimir Kagan should be respected not only for his legendary furniture designs, but for his extremely kind and grounded personality. To know such a person is a rare occurance.
