Disappointment.......2007-02-19
I have respect for Ned Davis as an analyst and this led to me buying his book. What a disappointment.Only 70 pages and the rest meaningless page after page of charts.I believe it is misleading to advertise a book of 188 pages and then only have 70 pages of content!! Buyer beware
The Triumph of Contrarian Investing: Crowds, Manias & Beating the Market by Going Against the Grain.......2006-06-26
This book did not contain much information, only 70 pages of text. The rest of the book being made up of a series of graphs.
The author frequently referred in the book to subscription research services he offers, as if the book was an advert.
I was disappointed with this book.
Too simplistic.......2005-08-14
Buyer beware...the book is padded in large part by graphs and data. The actual chapters are short and can be covered in a day...This is a beginner's book with little insights...Professional stay away!
Only for a beginner.......2004-09-12
First let me say, Ned Davis Research does excellent work. I was hoping to get some insight into the types of research his company uses. But I'm sorry to say I can not recomend this book to anyone but those completely unfamiliar with sentiment analysis. Only the basics are covered. Over half of the book is stock charts showing fundamental variables (I thought this was about sentiment?) and is a waste of space. He does say he is using these variables as a measure of investor sentiment but maybe they could have used a handful of charts as examples, not over half a book that is only 170 pages long.

A Classic on the Path of Individuation.......2006-11-26
I read Whitmont's work in the late 70s after an intense spiritual awakening which was first expressed in Christian fundamentalism in the early 70s. During a time of study at the C.G. Jung Foundation and the New School (New York City) I began to discover the spiritual meaning and personal potential of the Christian myth. The work continues to this day, and I am thankful to Whitmont and others (Edinger, Neumann, Jacobi, Von Franz,) who extended the insights of Jung for pioneers along the path of individuation.
A Scholarly Academic Introduction To Jung .......2006-05-28
Much more than a primer or a simple introduction to Jung, this carefully written book expresses itself succinctly in capturing key Jungian concepts within it's proper framework and the crucial formulation of it's historical underpinnings(showcasing where appropriate the differences with Freud and at times with Adler, analyzing in detail the immense philosophic background and depth of Kant, idealism, phenemonologyy) as a vehicle in which Jung crafted his philosophy turning him into one of the major pillars not only of psychology but of thought in general whose ideas and insights reverberate throughout today's climate despite the obvious shift away from traditional psychoanalysis into medicinal therapy.
You will walk away understanding Jung after reading this book but it is no simple read.
Its text is eloquent and is not a simple beach book.
Its pages are woven carefully by a Jungian scholar and rather than diminish the ideas of Freud and others, the author, a top ranking Jungian, explains Freud and others to the reading public within a framework of understanding not only about Jung but after reading the book the major concepts and ideas of the psychoanalytical movement in general and specifics.
Another wonderful read on Jung but more suited for actual case studies and in a more relaxed style is June Singer's Boundaries Of The Soul, but for the seriousness that Jung deserves Whitmont's book can't be beat.
Consider This From a Non-Psychologist.......2004-08-26
I have a read a few introductions to Jungian psychology and they have all suffered from one serious defect. Namely, in their attempt to be understood, they didn't provide a sense of the expanse of Jungian psychological thought. This book is the sole exception. It seems to be quite thorough.
Apparently, some readers have found this work difficult. I didn't and I am not a psychologist. In fact, I read this work as a beach book while on vacation. I found it to be a helpful explanation and introduction.
Ed W. Can Do.......2002-01-07
If anybody can take the pains to read and reread a book inch by inch, over and over again, ad infinitum, until you reach the other side, then by all means read this book! Being able to learn, retain and actually actualize the ideas he espouses, as you go along, into one ever expanding platform is all essential to even remotely comprehending so much as the first chapter, let alone the first page of this entire book! Mr. Whitmont is extreemly intellectual and wrote this book for people like him that thirst for inner knowledge. The text is written AS IF you already happen to know a number of words used only by depth psychologists. So be prepared to learn literally a text book of data per every page. This work is hailed as the next generation of Jungian thought written by Jung's prodigy student and spiritual heir apparent. And cannot be expected to be instantly readable by everyone, especially those already angry with Jung in general.Yet with each new concept integrated into your understanding of Jungianism, there will be a definite reward in terms of personal growth. I promise you a rose garden!
The Essential Popular Introduction to Jung.......2001-05-31
The Symbolic Quest remains the best popular introduction to the theory and practice of analytical psychology.

Book Description
I'll get you, my pretty
and your little dog too! The Wizard Of Oz is a timeless classic movie loved by a multitude. The movie's script was based on the book by L. Frank Baum. While a fantasy story, important metaphors demonstrate real life themes. Like Dorothy Gale of Kansas, we are our own Hero or Heroine on a journey through life. Often we feel small, weak, and simply not up to the challenges at hand. We don't know what inner strength to use
or if there even is any! And life can dish out monstrous problems that seem like they will engulf us, stop our journey, and even destroy us. Threatening challenges do and must come our way. Through them we find our inner Heroes and get hope to move on. The movie The Wizard Of Oz has symbolism and metaphors that ignite the imagination. The great mythologist Joseph Campbell said that the important stories of our society are hidden in our movies. Guidance and inspiration are found in a vast wealth of films available to all. Cinematherapy is your doorway. Finally, like Dorothy we recognize our inner strengths, face great challenges and return from the quest. In the Kansas farm house with loved ones around, Dorothy sums up the boon of her great quest, There's no place like home!

You're out of the woods,

You're out of the night.

Hold onto your breath, Hold onto your heart, Hold onto your hope.

Book Description
The idea of koinonia has gained prominence in recent ecumenical discussions. Sr. Lorelei Fuchs here proposes koinonia, loosely translated as "communion," as the key to moving the fractured churches toward a future unity. Fuchs challenges churches to go beyond mere dialogue to apply their ecumenical insights at the local level. She begins by relating the exegetical meaning of koinonia to its ecumenical meaning, tracing the place of koinonia both within the churches and between the churches.
Fuchs then examines koinonia in the extensive and fruitful dialogues that have taken place between Lutherans, Anglicans, and Roman Catholics, finally articulating a "symbolic competence for communionality" that provides a rich and workable way forward for church unity at all levels. Encompassing the latest in ecumenical thought, Koinonia and the Quest for an Ecumenical Ecclesiology provides a framework for moving closer to the reality of Christ's prayer "that all may be one."

Book Description
In What It Means to Be Crimson Tide, 60 players who wore the Crimson and White over a 75-year span have the same story to tella story of love for The University of Alabama and gratitude for the experience of having been a part of Crimson Tide football. Yet each man, with that similar story of pride, dedication, and success with Alabama football, has a unique story as well. This book evokes those stories, many of them appearing in print for the first time.
Customer Reviews:
Roll Tide Roll !!!!!.......2007-02-22
This book is for anybody who loves football. It doesn't matter if you're not an University of Alabama fan. You'll still love this book. You can't stop reading it just because you think it's "boring". You'll love it by the time you're done. Reason being it doesn't just talk about football it talks about the people playing the football.Trust me you'll love this book.
Not just good sports writing but good writing.......2005-12-18
Kirk McNair not only knows about Alabama football. He can write about it too. In this book he shows how a good interviewer engages his subject, draws the best from him, and finds the angle that will captivate the reader. Then he uses his considerable writing skills to tell the story so that both the players and the readers will be pleased with the outcome. This book is a must for Crimson Tide fans. But it is also an opportunity for would-be sports writers to learn the craft from a master. Yes - he is my brother. I am proud to be his sister.
Book Description
All the joy of the best-selling Anguished English is back! 2,000 all-new side-splitting flubs, fluffs, and hilariously funny accidental assaults on our language.
Customer Reviews:
.......2007-01-10
This book is great for Enlish lovers. Richard Lederer writes witty books which are easily read and quite clever.
More Where This Came From -- An Endless Supply........2005-07-18
There is an endless supply of this type of English bashing. It is not fractured per se, only verbs could be that. It is sometimes lewd, crude, and politically incorrect.
The AMERICAN HERITAGE Dictionary describes 'Anguish" as being
"tormentend;" in MW, it is "full of torment." That's how I feel when the censors get on my case. Lay off, whoever you are. I haven't been able to see where I went wrong -- I didn't appreciate the puns and some of the language. To me, this is not funny. Poe is one of my favorite writers and should not be demeaned in such a fashion.
Richard Lederer is the author of fifteen other books about English and has a column, "Looking at Language" in newspapers and magazines nationwide. Today's column by our local grammar guru suggests everyone use redundancies: "refer back," 'Past history,' and "absolute necessity." I don't always agree with him, especially over the use of the word 'that.' It makes the speaker sound ignorant to use too many of that word. Yet, he claims that you can't use too many. I beg to differ.
He is not an expert on English in spite of what that total may presume. Maybe he is educated though it does not show through puns, which is his specialty. He has made it his life's dream to do put-downs on our English. He still has a lot to learn.
This book is just a continuation of the first one, of which me made as many cast-offs as he could to generate more income. Too much of anything can be bad, and this continuing series is not what it could be. If he'd leave off the crude bathroom humor, sleaze, profanity, making fun of literature icons, and berating our wonderful language skills, it might be tolerable. As is, it is for a certain small audience of unschooled people who want to be titilated and share the ugly stuff with like-minded people. There are some of us who revere the use of English, grammatical correctness and vocabulary of which is lacking in these books.
A hilarious look at the trippings of English usage........1999-03-18
The biggest trouble I have is trying to read this book in public. I laugh out loud and have tears in my eyes. I'm sure on lookers worry that someone should be calling the white coats out for me. The Lederer books are all a gem for anyone, but the more well read you are, the more you appreciate this digest of mis-statements and bloopers.

Customer Reviews:
A good gift for the statistically curious.......2007-05-18
I give my dad an almanac almost every year, switching between the NYT and World Almanac. He likes them.
2005 New York Times Almanac REVIEW.......2005-09-01
This used book I bought, The New York Times Almanac 2005, was sold in perfect condition. It can't get any better than this.
Excellent Almanac- Wide Array of Information.......2005-02-22
The New York Time's newest almanac is an excellent source for information on all of the world's countries, U.S. and international geography, and countless other subjects. Every country has a detailed profile with information about population, size, location, and other interesting facts. However, it does lack information on the 2004 Democratic primaries, which it promised on the back cover, and devotes only a few pages to the presidential election. Also, it has far too few maps for the amount of geographical information given. Another flaw is its poor historical time-tables. But few people would use an almanac as a guide to history, and someone who owns this book is likely to own an atlas as well, which would solve the map problem.
Overall, The 2005 New York Times almanac is a great source for information on many subjects, especially geography. Unlike some other almanacs, it is easily navigated and has a good index. One can open to any page and learn something new.
Comprehensive and Engaging..........2005-02-20
I found this almanac to be extremely comprehensive in its scope. For me it is a fantastic single refrence book with historical, geographical and statistical data about both the world and the United States. It seemed to be a bit less anecdotal, and a bit more concise than other almanacs that I've seen. 5-Stars.
